  1. IKEA, M&S and John Lewis. H&M also used to have some fun colourful ones on both kids and adult ranges.
  2. I flew London to Melbourne and back a few years ago. Same experience as above. Would recommend buying enough cartons for both journeys here. There were no problems at all taking full bottles of milk through security in Australia. No equivalent to Boots over there at airports and be warned that in general baby stuff like formula and nappies is really expensive.
  3. Tea set, doctors set, dressing up stuff, Mr Potato Head.
  4. I don't think that it would necessarily be confusing to split the childcare. The important thing is that there is stability rather than everyday being the same. When I returned to work after baby 2, aged about 9 months, she and her then 3 year old sister did 3 days of nursery and 1 day with a nanny. This has worked really well for them and us for various reasons including availability of nursery days, reducing the hassel of drop-off/ pick-ups and giving them more time at home with each other.
  5. You can get them delivered via boots.com
  6. Boots on Rye Lane
  7. I think it's almost impossible to clear them but you can certainly reduce them using the advice above. Steam cleaning the carpets made a huge difference for us. We still have a few but nothing like the problem we had 2 or 3 years ago.
  8. There was a thread on this a few months ago 'New kitchen ideas and thoughts...'. Sorry, I'm too useless to be able to add the link.
  9. I also recommend Russell at Dulwich Physio. I had very painful SPD in the late stages of my second pregnancy and was almost pain-free after just one session. In my 3rd pregnancy (twins) the symptoms started much earlier, but one session with Russell and doing the exercises he showed me kept things under control for the rest of the pregnancy.
  10. etta166, I think the net is quite easy to slip through. We have never had to show proof of address either.
  11. I would go with option B if your children are small. We are lucky enough to have a large open plan kitchen/dining room/play room in the basement opening onto the garden, plus a separate living room upstairs. If I had to lose part of the basement it would be the dining table, providing we had another dining area like you do. It's really great being able to do stuff in the kitchen while keeping an eye on the little ones as they play and be able to let them go out into the garden. They seem to play much more independently if you are present but not directly involved than if they are in a separate room. Good luck. Not a bad dilemma to have.
  12. I didn't know you could get 3.5 tog bags! When it's been really cold I have sometimes put mine in long sleeved vest plus sleep suit and 2.5 tog sleeping bag. Definitely don't worry about cold hands, not representative of their core temperature.
  13. Pauline at Kuki on Bellenden Road. If you do a search for Kuki on here they get loads of positive reviews. And reasonable prices too.
  14. Veronica, putting a close but popular school at the top of your list doesn't reduce your chance of getting into the other schools on your list.
  15. Dog Kennel Hill school nursery allow you to use the 15 hours over 2 and a half days, ie Monday to Weds lunchtime or Weds afternoon to Friday. Don't know of any other school nurseries that do this but seems like a much better option for working parents.
  16. I would be interested if there is room for me and twins.
  17. Another vote for only using water for as long as possible.

  19. Forgot to say, midwife is Lesley Ann.
  20. DMC Chadwick Rd are linked with the East Team community midwives, you can see the midwife there for your antenatal appointments on Fridays and the East team follow you up at home afterwards. You don't get quite the same continuity if care that you do with Lanes or Brierly because the midwife doesn't come with you to the hospital and you might see a few different MWs postnatally, but you should see the same MW for all of your antenatal appointments and all the ones I met postnatally were great. Also agree that their baby clinic is great, usually don't have to wait too long and they have a new Health visitor, Ros, who seems lovely and very sensible.
  21. I wouldn't bother getting a double. My eldest was 2 and 3 months when number 2 arrived, we used a P&T for about 8 weeks before switching to maclaren/ sling/buggy board/scooter. Number 2 was also 2 and 3 months when my now 12 week twins came along. She had had to scoot ever since. We have a double for the babies and occasionally I carry one in a Bjorn so that toddler can rest but only a handful of times in 12 weeks. A new baby is a great way to get your toddler walking!
  22. I agree that swaddling helps. I have 11 week old twins and they definitely nap for longer if they are swaddled really tight. Also white noise is useful. They nearly always get put down awake but settled (unless grandparents here who insist on rocking to sleep). If they cry I pick them up to re-settle them but then put them back down before they fall asleep.
  23. You apply for schools between the September and January before your child would start school, so people can apply now for reception to start Sept 14. The application is done on-line and is very quick and easy and you can change your preferences right up to the close of applications. The Southwark website is quite useful to give you an idea of which schools you might get in to. Also for Teception this year Southwark announced before the close of applications which schools would be bulging or permanently expanding which I found really helpful.
  24. We had building work done last year and were advised to get a megaflow. We moved our kitchen and boiler into the basement and were told that a combi boiler wouldn't be able to hear the whole house plus enough hot water for 2 bathrooms. This means that we have a massive tank with the boiler.

If do, where did you get it and how comfortable is it?
