  1. It seems unreasonable to close entry to champion Hill without allowing traffic to turn right from Grove Hill Road into Grove Park. This is one of the most commonly listed objections on The Southwark website. They say that they hope that with time traffic will move onto main roads but at the moment it is not possible for traffic to go from Bellenden Road area towards Denmark Hill without using residential roads as you can?t turn right at Dog Kennel Hill school. So instead of pushing traffic onto main roads, it will increase traffic on Bromar Road and through the DKH estate on roads which are far more congested than Champion Hill. I can see why the council want to reduce traffic but surely they could improve their strategy. At the moment it seems that they just respond to pressure from one group of residents by pushing the problem onto somewhere else.
  2. Met police website said that final day for donations was last Friday but I took presents to Walworth Road this week and they were still taking them.
  3. Have you considered Bessemer? You can top up and pay for additional hours to do a full school day and add breakfast and after school clubs too. The nursery kids are kept separate from bigger kids at breakfast and after school clubs. Subject to availability, they are very flexible so my kids did something like 9-12 with nanny pick up on 3 days, school hours (9-3.30)one day, and long day (8-5.45) on the 5th day. They also have holiday club over Easter and Summer.
  4. I wasted 2 mornings of annual leave at Camberwell. Each time I waited for hours but had to leave to get to work without getting a coil. I went to Margaret Pyke at UCLH instead. I booked online, got the first appointment of one afternoon and was in and out within 30 minutes of my appointment time. They were great and my mirena is even better!
  5. I have 4 kids at Bessemer and we are very happy with the school.it has a lovely sense of community. The size of the school has never been an issue for us. The outdoor space at Bessemer is great, I didn?t see any schools with anything like what they have when we were in your position a few years ago. In addition to the 4 playgrounds and the nature garden, each of the year 1 and 2 classrooms has its own courtyard (something which you might not see on the tours) and they get to use Jags sports fields sometimes too. You are in a lucky position to have a choice of so many schools you like.
  6. Yes, 3 year olds can use breakfast club and after school club at Little Stars. Currently ?2 for breakfast and ?10 after school club.
  7. I would highly recommend Bessemer nursery and school. We have 2 kids in school and twins who are just coming to the end of their pre-school year. They both absolutely love it and I feel they are very much ready for reception despite being July babies. There are 2 nursery classes, we have one in each, and both teachers are fantastic. I don't know how Jessop's compares, but other advantages of Bessemer are the outdoor space which is much greater than any other local primaries I have visited, and the option to top up to full days plus add breakfast and after school club.
  8. Yes, DKH. With the adult newspapers not the magazines.
  9. Are you sure you can't buy single issues? We have bought it from Sainsburys in the past.
  10. Thomas Carlton centre near Peckham Rye station do evening sewing classes.
  11. This is such sad news. Trio is such a great cafe, our Saturday mornings will never be the same 😞
  12. My eldest 2 both learned to ride their bikes on the tarmac football pitch in Warwick Gardens, SE15, which is in the dog-free part. It is usually quiet there in the mornings.
  13. Thanks everyone, these posts are so helpful. 2 nights at hotel Ion booked. Before I was just looking forward to getting away from the kids but now I'm really excited about Iceland too!
  14. We bypassed number 3 and went directly from 2 to 4 (number 3 was twins). It's noisy, noisy, messy, chaotic, did I mention noisy? The washing never ends and sometimes I feel like a total drudge. childcare bills are enormous but work keep me sane. But I love it, it's lots of fun and I feel very lucky. I think the fact that you are even asking the question means you want it to happen. Maybe this will help: http://www.scarymommy.com/having-a-third-child/
  15. Hi All, We are going to Reykjavik in Feb for a long-awaited trip without kids. We're away for 4 nights. Does anyone have any tips on places to visit or stay? I am hoping that we can combine a couple of days in the city and a couple of days of total relaxation and wallowing in hot tubs. It looks like the Blue Lagoon is fully booked - any alternatives not too far from Reykjavik, we're hoping not to need to hire a car? Thanks!
  16. I have a ninja, it's great. I can't answer your question as I have never used the bullet, but when I was making the same decision last year the Ninja seems to get better reviews online. Ease of cleaning and smoothness of juice were the main differences. If you look on YouTube there are some videos where the compare and contrast them (not entirely scientifically) and Ninja comes out best.
  17. If you live in Southwark you don't need to upload proof of address. The school is supposed to check this when you receive your offer.
  18. I would wait for Jessica's book, lots of local twin parents were interviewed for this book including me so it should be great! The twin books I read were rubbish and either assumed that you have stacks of cash to provide 24 hour nannies and maternity nurses while on maternity leave or that you can stay in bed all day nesting with your twins so no good if you have other kids etc. Hopefully the new book fills this gap. If your friend is local you could buy her membership to the Dulwich twin club as a gift.
  19. Thanks everyone, that's great. I'd forgotten about Wonder, someone recommended that a while ago as a good kid's book for adults. Hopefully I can sneakily read it on Boxing Day.
  20. Could someone please help with present ideas for a 12 year old boy? He is 14 but I have been told that he is quite immature and less streetwise than other boys his age so to aim for a 12 year old. I would like to spend ?10 or slightly more. I have never met him but we will be spending Christmas with him. He is Italian but speaks fluent English so I thought books might be good. Or a game. Thank you!
  21. Yes, unless there is a chance there are more siblings than places. And make sure you tick the sibling box on the form.
  22. Mr Gum books are great too.
  23. We found our nanny on Gumtree. You need to be very specific about what you want in terms of experience and that they will not live in. We had hundreds of replies the vast majority of which were totally inappropriate such as people living in different cities, students looking for very short term work and someone who wrote that their experience with children was that they had been a child themself!
  24. Can anyone recommend where to get coils fitted apart from Kings. Which GP surgeries do them? I would consider paying privately if recommended. Thanks
  25. We have 4 kids and have a Ford S Max with roof box. I really like it. We went to Car Giant and compared all the 7-seaters and thought that the S-Max looked and drove the most like a car rather than a van. We have all 7 seats up all the time and can easily get a double buggy in the boot but not much else. There are isofix points in the 3 Middle row seats but not the back row. The Ford Galaxy gives you more head room in the back but very little extra boot space and it feels like you're driving a van not a car. When all 4 kids needed help getting in and out of car seats and being strapped in it was hard work accessing the back row. Now that the older 2 can do this on their own it's much easier.
