Camberwell Cemetery. New gate entrance

Is it even open yet? -
Just saw on ITV London news that police have seized DJ gear in Dulwich Wood. The pictures implied it was stored in the old railway tunnel entrance.

Sainsburys DKH - queue update please
n dulwich northerner replied to Lots's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
That differs from what I have seen during the week. In fact I am glad my experience is so different because I like to fake a few loud coughs as I walk away from someone not wearing a mask. I'd get a sore throat if I was doing that 10+ times a day! -
Sainsburys DKH - queue update please
n dulwich northerner replied to Lots's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Which Sainsburys do you mean, Rollflick? In DKH I've not seen anything like a third failing to wear masks. In my experience, it's just isolated individuals and yesterday I didn't see anyone failing to wear one. -

How is Sainsburys this morning?
n dulwich northerner replied to spider69's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
I was there about 7 this morning. No queue, it was a bit busier than I expected but no more so than on a "current normal" day. Plenty of stock, no obvious panic gaps. If these are metrics, there was plenty of space on the nearer half of the parking area, maybe half of handsets were available, queues of 2-3 people at tills and no queue for the handset payment. Hope this helps you plan, if not for today. -
Northcross Road market
n dulwich northerner replied to millie7uk's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
I walked (wearing a mask) through the market on Saturday and while some people could have made more effort to distance, I didn't encounter the "absolutley packed with people without masks and not social distancing at all". That doesn't mean the OP's observation is totally wrong, but it really wasn't what I saw. It's a good point about spreading the market further up the street, and another use for Covid funding might be a cheap tape barrier one way system like recently at Herne Hill's Sunday market. Not perfect, but it seems to avoid zig zagging and clumping. -

And no mention of bad road layouts causing congestion and delays to emergency services. -

Yes, I agree it is a waste of time, but your reasons are misleading. I walk through there a few times a week, including at the start or end of the school day - the latter being more easy to judge - and have done before and after the timed closures. Yes, a few people are sitting in cars, but there's no way you or I know they aren't from further away or have other tasks they need to do. Many, many more people are standing and waiting, and walk away afterwards. So why is it a waste of time? Because that road is never busy anyway! -

Unless you take an absolutist position, Bessemer Grange works perfectly well. Loads more parents and grandparents standing around waiting - even maintaining some social distance. -
I'd suggest walking round (ED has no gates) and checking for yourself. That's not to be awkward with you, but this is one of those things one can only judge with one's own eyes. I don't need trains in the rush hour but in mid morning I am comfortable using the train (with asthma/overweight/just60). From what I have seen, most trains seem to have no more than 10 people per carriage, and sometimes it's just me.

Because they're implemented by malicious halfwits? More seriously, the text under the signs is already lengthy and looks awkward for drivers to read. The signs are cheap enough for a "temporary" measure, but maybe what's needed is an automated filter of the lights. At least there's nothing to stop anyone forced to turn right from doing a 3 point turn on E Dulwich Drove ;)

70/80% of two lanes is one lane.... There was an earlier suggestion with photos showing how the lights could be moved to narrow the southbound road and provide enough space for the northbound filter lane, left/straight lane, and cycle space. Alternatively the pavement could be moved back a foot. Instead the council botched the job and all the traffic still tails back through the village. Genius. -

march46 Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > Interesting how you blame the council, when there > was always traffic there Of course, and because their attempts to improve things have been misconceived. While the N Dulwich traffic lights' new right filter may have mitigated the tailback the council caused by the Calton/Court Lane closure, they coupled the filter with limiting the left lane to cyclists (see any in the photos?) which means that vehicles heading for Village Way or Red Post Hill are stuck in the tailback. -

Southwark Council caused this congestion by closing Calton Ave and pushing the traffic along Dulwich Village north, then botching the northern end traffic lights by limiting the left lane to cyclists. Specifics, not banalities.... -

People just don't sit in traffic like that if they could walk or cycle. -

Thanks to Southwark's foggy-minded road closure schemes, this morning the tailback in Dulwich Village extended from the northern set of lights to those in the centre. -

Have you tried the Fashion-Conscience shop on the corner of Melbourne Grove near E Dulwich station? They always have local propaganda material in the window, including mugs. -

Correct that for a year or two you haven't been able to turn right at the lights where Kings on the Rye used to be. But it's not too troublesome to go on the Nunhead side of Peckham Rye and then turn right, another set of lights, but no slower in my experience. > If so, how do vehicles get > from Peckham to East Dulwich when these closures > go in? Can't comment on the closures, but I eagerly await the day when they start the scheme to have joggers running with red flags 10m before every motorised carriage. -
Dulwich Wood / Sydenham Hill Wood . Not sure if they've been or gone this year.
