  1. sorry i should have included a smiley, that was meant to be a joke intended to continue diffusing the sitch :) see remembered it that time
  2. oh well, itchy and scratchy, that's different, that's satire and therefore hilarious
  3. i don't completely disagree with you, just a little bit. i just find the notion that violence should be a cause for laughter really distasteful.
  4. I don't think anyone said the cyclist behaved appropriately just on a scale of appropriate he was slightly less worse than the driver, based on size of vehicle and ability to do harm
  5. no, keef, no one laughed, people were all a bit too freaked out to be that callous straight away. It was actually a pretty scary situation to be put in as none of us on the bus had any control over the actions over either of the men involved yet we were all being directly affected by their actions. But hey, thanks for making light of it, that was super helpful.
  6. Jimbob, while the bicyclist was yelling and making more noise I would say that trying to to run him off the road with a bus and also hitting him the face were fairly out of line responses. They both behaved abominably, but a bus is A LOT bigger than a bicycle and can do a good deal more damage to both the cyclist and the passengers when used in such a manner
  7. also not a terrible option
  8. no, he hopped back on the bus and drove off. i think the cyclist would have chased him and tried to continue the fight if he'd taken off on foot. i even previewed that post to make sure it was clear and still managed to be vague. curses
  9. Honestly I could only tell you race and height as I barely saw his face and it was quite dark out which probably wouldn't be very helpful
  10. I know this technically happened in Nunhead but I also know there are some interlopers from SE15 on here. Last night at around 17:30 there was a really frightening incident on the 343 travelling towards New Cross Gate (I know, I know, when isn't the 343 a little bit frightening, you'll say, but this was out of the ordinary). Not sure what happened to spark the incident, but starting at the stop just below Nunhead Lane a bicyclist began hitting the bus and shouting at the driver. My assumption is that the driver may have cut off the cyclist but I didn't see it so can't be sure. Rather than ignoring the cyclist the driver tried to run him into the kerb as we travelled up Rye Lane (this I could see from my window) the cyclist became more upset and continued yelling and hitting the bus until we got the the Stuart Road stop where he kicked in the front door of the bus. Obviously this is totally unacceptable behaviour as well but instead of staying in his cubicle thing on the bus the driver got out and physically attacked the cyclist, punching him in the face and knocking him to the ground. I called 999 at the time and believe that other passengers did as well, but as the driver took off immediately after punching the cyclist I don't know if anyone got very complete info regarding the incident. I've also filed a complaint with TFL, and was hoping to encourage others to do the same. I don't know precisely who was in the wrong and who was in the right in this situation, and I don't think either man was 100% on either side, but I do think it's really important that TFL hears about this and A gets the driver into anger management stat and B maybe hook him up with a refresher on driving safety. Sure every commute is fraught with some danger and drama, but this was a bit much, even for the 343.
  11. the furniture is all provided by the shop Shaw on Grove Vale so I imagine those are his prices and not set by the Skip Sisters themselves
  12. we were unable to afford buying in East Dulwich a couple years ago so went across the park to Nunhead (south end of the cemetary) and have been really happy there. yes it is quiet (except for when my neighbours play loud reggae music, boo), but it is just a short walk to East Dulwich, Peckham and Nunhead Lane. The 484 takes me just round the corner from the Gowlett if I'm feeling lazy. I actually prefer it to the flats we rented in SE22, except of course, when something breaks and I can't just call the landlord to come fix it but have to do something about it myself.
  13. off topic, i know, but it also bears mentioning that cafe 2050 has amazing rice krispie cakes. sometimes i tell myself they are okay to have for breakfast because they are made of cereal
  14. don't forget cafe 2050! it is my not so humble belief that they make the finest brownies in all the land
  15. Ants, may I ask why you don't want to be the first to mke a complaint? Ho will anything change for the better if you're unwilling to speak up?
  16. if you're looking for good interesting food in Brixton scheck out the Ethiopian/Eritrean place on Coldharbour Lane diagnally across the road from Dogstar. it is really really good and fun to eat, plus the Ethiopian coffee is some kind of wonderful
  17. last i heard Dogstar, sadly, was no longer serving Mexican food from El Panzon. This according to an update from the facebook page of El Panzon. El Panzon still has a stall at Camden market but that doesn't do much for those of us in South London, unless he finds another pub to set up kitchen in.
  18. i've definitely seen more than one nurse in my time there and one is super nice and the other is less so
  19. I've also had a bad nurse experience at The Gardens (really rude and unprofessional during my gyno exam, way to make an unpleasant experience even more so!) BUT have found the other nurses I've seen there and all the doctors to be really great so I'm willing to overlook that experience as a one off. The quality of care I've received there 9 out of 10 times far outweighs one bad experience.
  20. walked by last night and it looked like it was open. would have gone in but was meeting my young man at the Nun's Head. looked like there were plenty of comfy chairs, just not many people sitting in them yet
  21. nunhead has loads of old pubs if you don't mind walking across the park Waverly Arms The Old Man of Kent and The Pyrotechnic's Arms (my favorite pub name in all of London though I haven't been in yet)
  22. I always really want to like Jack's as I think it's a sweet little place but every time I've gone they've messed up my order somehow which makes me sad because when I get the food it's always good and in theory it's such a good place but in practice it's a pain to always be sorting out mistakes when I just want my breakfast and coffee
  23. god forbid a library provide popular novels to people who want to read them. how snobbish! library's are meant to provide the literature of all types (literary, pulp, classic, nonfiction, sci fi, children's, etc) not just waht you deem to be worthy. Sure kerry katona's book might not hold the highest literary value in the world, but if it gets more people to start reading then good on kerry and her ghostwriter for at least doing a small something to make up for the evil of those Iceland ads and that scary looking reality tv show
  24. a lot of times libraries would like to take donations but simply don't have the room or the donations are books they already have multiple copies of so the books just end up on the sale shelves or stuck in a back room taking up space. or the books they get are in such poor condition that they would disintegrate on the shelves. in theory most would love to ake all donations but sorting through the books, and then housing them until they can be sold or processed actually does take up a fair bit of time and space. can you tell i used to work in a library? donations are probably better off going to a charity shop in most instances unless you see your local library actively advertising for books.
  25. Sean, all was well when I returned home, paranoia was unfounded (although am still convinced rupert murdoch is out to get me). actually owning the home makes me for more nervous than renting ever did. nunheadmum, that was what i meant to do but somehow i let myself get suckered into talking to him
