  1. http://www.direct.gov.uk/en/CrimeJusticeAndTheLaw/CrimePrevention/DG_078569 police? it's an offence to carry a knife w/out good reason - see link.
  2. Where did you see this?
  3. Nice one Aurocaught just as an add - i am pregnant and have never once found an disabled/pregnancy empty seat on the tube or bus, nor have i once been offered one. ironically it was when i was in the early stages of my pregnancy (no bump) that i really needed that seat.... i felt terrible and often had to get off the tube/bus just to have a break and/or let the nausea settle down Telling people you're pregnant with no bump, didn't feel like an option i have a huge bump now and feel great... typical (I still haven't been offered a seat as yet)
  4. I live in east dulwich and was driving home from work when i saw this terrible incident unfolding. I initially put it in to help ED travellers (topic transport) avoid the area on the way home but also to inform everyone of a major incident in the local area. No one was to know how serious this was going to be, so i can understand (if you hadn't seen what i had seen) why it was moved at the time. Anyway - it's really very sad to hear that so many people had died, including young children. awful.
  5. I started this thread in the general issues section. the administrator then moved it into the lounge... I'm confused too. perhaps the adminstrator may be able to help here?
  6. anyone know what's going on up there?? - police, helicopters, fire engines and loads of ambulances? there's smoke everywhere & the traffic is terrible so i'd avoid the area if youre thinking of driving through
  7. I thought we hadn't had final say on east london line extension (at least the peckham branch) so i guess it does really matter Chances are they don't do the ELLE and we are left with nothing there are hardly any routes that go ACROSS london, most go into london. This route is vital for many travellers. It's a shame that the protest is on during the day as surely most the people who use that line (commuting to work) are at work? Eileen - thanks for keeping us informed. If there are any 'out of work hours' protests please post up on the forum and we will definitley attend. thanks
  8. It will definitely be an advantage to contract the virus now - currently the antiviral drugs are active against this strain. You would then gain some sort of immunity to H1N1. Yes the flu might mutate but the main skeleton of the viral structure will be H1N1. You would then either not get it or get it mildly compared to those who had never been exposed to the virus before. It's just like a flu jab, but as no flu jab has been invented / manufactured yet, we can't get it on nhs. HOWEVER, you DON'T want to get it when pregnant for two reasons~: Firstly, your immune system is down when you're pregnant (so you don't reject your baby) and you will suffer much more (that woman who died was pregnant) and so will your baby. Secondly the antivirals could harm your baby (tamiflu) So PLEASE if you do get it please keep it to yourself by sneezing into tissues etc
  9. ... i'm told (and slightly agree) that East Dulwich is just 'glorified peckham'...

  11. We hvae both just been tonight (fri) and found a lovely relaxed atmosphere, although it was slightly chaotic. I'm not sure they knew what had hit them... quite a few people turned up and they seemed a little over-whelmed. However the pizzas were yummy (& v good value at ?5!!) and everyone was friendly and seemed to enjoy themselves. Off license is right opposite as it is BYO
  12. I'm w Eileen too - Considering how packed these trains are in the morning, losing two trains an hour would be a disaster, in my opinion. Hopefully if enough people shout about it, the decision will be reversed....

Make up your own minds, but please > dont read the Daily Mail. GILEAD / ROCHE make Tamiflu. The profits from the Tamiflu stocks have already been booked years ago when the government bought a huge batch of the drug for UK residents. It is not a particularly profitable drug for these companies - far from it. Gilead actually make most of their profits from HIV drugs. Their HIV drug has turned what used to be a death sentence into a chronic disease. Hats of to them. Roche make their profits from cancer drugs mostly - and they reinvest 50% of those profits to discover new cancer drugs. If the drug companies that make Tamiflu were being sneaky they would want to dampen the media hype as each time Tamiflu is used, resistance will be around the corner. Ideally the drug is only used when it is absolutely necessary - ie. in a pandemic. (in terms of profits for both companies) I don't work for drug companies but i'm baffled by the hatred of them. Fag companies have a better reputation yet they don't put any of their profits towards medical research - they purely profit from killing people. grrr - rant over
  14. tamiflu would be prescribed but not enough trials have been conducted to say whether it harms a fetus. I have heard that doctors are taking each case as it comes and if they feel the risks out weigh the benefits, they will prescribe Tamiflu to a pregnant woman. A fever can also cause harm to an unborn baby so they have to take the difficult choice of fever or tamiflu. antibiotics wouldn't normally be prescribed for a flu case, as people have already pointed out. However if you get a lung infection as a result of the flu you may be prescribed antibiotics to treat that bacterial infection
  15. if youre not old or pregnant it wouldn't be a bad idea to catch it now and get a free flu 'shot'. the symptoms are mild and therefore unlikely to cause harm. This should provide you with immunity to a potentially more virulent strain that may occur during the next wave - if there is one. Re the potential 'second wave' - No one can rule that possibility out or in (media, doctors, government - it's a guessing game right now)
