  2. Sorry could not let this pass. Even in the unlikely event that it is 50:50 the sibling intake is taken out of the non religious quota leaving very little if anything left for non religious local kids. I have nothing against church schools but i do think it wrong that so much of the primary school places extra funding went to a selective (religious) school and did not impact on the very local problem as the places would not go to local children. 3. Top thread :)) lol, Think it might be the reason hubby got up early and made brecky.
  4. Hi You dont have to put down 6 but it feels really horrid to get no where and be left with somewhere no one else wants far away, (which happened to us even though we went for all our nearest schools). You might be quite grateful knowing the worst case scenario is a known while you sit on the waiting list for your nearest two. People were given places right up until the start of term. If you have chosen local schools you will get in eventually even if it is not in the first round. Wishing you all good luck
  5. Sorry your all having to go through this. I was wee bit obsessed by this last year. From my long conversations with the council last year I gathered the excellent Ivydale and the also fabulous Horniman school may get bulged this year, also a less confirmed rumour about the newly popular Goose Green also being expanded. Things may have changed under the new council but the funding is there and it still all makes sense. An enormous amount of the bulge money went on St Anthony's but these places are unlikely to help locally. Grrrr Goose Greens catchment was about a mile last year and although it is much more popular now it is still probably a good idea to have it on your list as a back up if its not your top choice. If you don't get into any on your list you have no choice but to take what your given, the council do do this by the book and I did not hear of any que jumping. Good Luck
  6. Complex issue for sure, my concern is slightly different to others i have just read. Above and beyond all the other problems with this cut is the uneasy feeling that 'they' are winging it and possibly dont have the skill needed to cut a third of a budget without blowing it. Robert Preston wrote aninsightful article about this http://www.bbc.co.uk/blogs/thereporters/robertpeston/2010/10/what_are_private-sector_lesson.html I'm not a fan of the Torys but i really do hope they know what they are doing.
  7. I for one do not expect our local councillors to have to take up much of their own time over pool temperature, something which people will clearly disagree on. Did people mention it to staff at the pool at the time? Hope so. Sorry to be so grumpy but having seen how much our councillors do for us (as well as their own jobs!), felt the need to stick up for them incase this rumbles on.
  8. JB is probably as excited as the rest of us. :)) Thanks JB for keeping us all informed. Mick Mac Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > Are you shouting?
  9. Elderflower wrote "Er, I do find the middle classes to be quite ignorant", "cleans myself of the class system". To quote Elderflower "isn't that a little bit too "go back to where you came from"." I would love to know how to make good bunting, I did try it and my bunting was rubbish.
  10. Last one looks like good enough to be ?4.50 from an East Dulwich organic stall on Saturday, 4th might be chip shop ?1.20ish, but i would go for the 5th, must be a greggs, ?1.50ish? Sometimes its all about the sauce.
  11. Went today and its brill, the fence is still up and some big kids were playing on it, not a terrible problem in itself but there are loads of planks and concrete blocks around making it more dangerous than need be (which could be easily fixed). Really enjoyed the new layout, thanks to anyone involved.
  12. EDmummy Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > @toast why wouldn't local people send their boys > to a single sex school? Are you a parent of boys? Yes I am the only girl on my mannor. My husband and myself both went to mixed schools so single sex feels a bit odd. My boys have a lot of female friends and would be likely to miss the mix. Its a long way off but after the primary business i'm planning on thinking further ahead for secondary!
  13. Sorry to change point a bit. Happy to have Harris as there is a need to think ahead and ED does have a LOT of kids. My only worry is that i cant see ED parents sending their kids, (boys esp) to a single sex school. If the Harris sites were both mixed then it would be much more likely to be full of local kids and get propper local support. After the whole primary school issue it would be lovely to know there was a mixed secondary school just down the road.
  14. Phew! I dont know of anyone else in limbo so looks like we are all sorted, and well before the end of term. Congratz Lewisham and Southwark! Prdarling, enjoy the next week as it sinks in, its a GREAT feeling!
  15. I'm pretty sure we would not have a primary school place without the forum! Thank you
  16. The only other family i know of live on Dunstans and got place at Heaber yesterday. Hopefully the next local place that comes up will go to you? Southwark are still chasing up peole that have not accepted a place and last year 6 children who had accepted a place did not turn up for school at Goodrich in september. Hope you get in somewhere before the home visits etc
  17. Have a friend around who has just spoken to southwark. LOADS of people have not accepted or rejected places. Please, please, please let them know if you have not got around to it yet, or if you know someone who has moved out of the area give them a poke, it speeds everything up for those on the waiting lists. Thanks
  18. Pr darling, Sorry this is happening to you its truly rubbish and more stressful than people can imagine. If you guys (and there are a fair few!) are not offered places then we live in an area without local school provision and that is not ok! Email MP's, councillors (they DO want to help), and mail the press. 12 million is a LOT of money to have had such a small impact, especially in these times where money needs to be well spent. The new councill will want to ensure that what is left of the funding is well used.
  19. Fuschia, blimey that was efficient! Thanks
  20. Mumra has a good point, 'open' places in a selective school are not expanding local places if it allocation is filled up with siblings. Any bulge classes in these schools would be an odd use of money if they did not create 'local' places. Edited to add Have a friend goting to appeals with good grounds, does anyone know if appeals places are held back or if they just goto the top of the list??
  21. Hi Prdarling, You must not have got the PMed message i sent Friday. I'll PM again. I know of at least two others still in limbo, one is on holiday so might have been offered a place and there are probably others who are forum shy, or just dont know what an issue it has been. Would be really good if we had a better idea of numbers. Anyone still without a 'local' school do PM me and Prdarling. If its only a few will probably all be sorted out by Southwark this week, if there are loads then we still dont have local school provision.
  22. Thanks everyone, bit worried that im a pushy parent before we have even got into a school, i honestly dont make a habit of this sort of thing. I think i have blown my cover enough, Craigy i'll PM you. Edited to say I have written a very long letter to our councillors as the population bulge is expected to grow for a few more years yet and this new council is inheriting a bit of a mess with all the obvious schools bulged already. If any regulars on the forum are worried about next year and fancy picking up the challenge, PM me and i can pass on lots to you as it was passed to me. I know this thing is far from over and if anyone still did not get in anywhere 'local' PM me and i may have some info, but nothing too exciting.
  23. Hi All We have been offered a place we Love and have taken ourselves off all lists. Not totally sunk in yet, more relieved that celabrating. Will still be holding my breath until we are all sorted, Prdarling and Tor hope you get good news soon. Thanks to everyone for getting your acceptances and declines in quickly and speeding things up.
  24. Lewisham wont tell us where we are now which i am taking as a good sign, the next Lewisham round is tomorrow so good luck everyone. Sounds like we will all get sorted out by Lewisham eventually, and its still likely that lots of people who were offered Lewisham places before Southwark offered will have given up their places and these will come up in the Southwark second round. Fairlawn and Goodrich offers overlaped significantly due to the Fairlawn bulge. Hope that made sense
  25. They measured in cm! My neighbour and i were less than 2m apart as she is across the road. Hopefully this all means we will all get in somewhere well before the summer holidays. Good for Lewisham i say!
