6th form options - vocational
mumof3girlies replied to mumof3girlies's topic in The Family Room Discussion
Thanks Renata - do I search up this qualification and see who offers this in London? - that sounds like the perfect course for her. -
My year 12 daughter is not getting on with her choices and looking to move 6th form, does anyone have experience of moving a student at this stage. She is creative and practical and not necessarily looking to go to university but looking towards apprenticeship or some other form of learning on the job. Any ideas greatly appreciated as she is not loving her current subjects (art A level - happy with tho ) but finance and psychology Btec not so much . Thanks in advance !

I went out to feed our 4 guinea pigs this morning but only found one left in our outside hutch. All the doors were secure and shut. I find it hard to believe someone would make their way in to our garden (not impossible but difficult) to release 3 guinea pigs . This is just a request if you see one or remains of one please get in touch it will help my daughters get closure on what happened to them . We are on gowlett rd. many thanks They were 1 black and 2 ginger guinea pigs

I received a text from yodel to say that they had successfully delivered my parcel through my letterbox (gowlett rd) this is not true and nothing has been posted , I am hoping the person to whom it was delivered will read this and get in touch as clearly yodel has delivered somewhere but not at my address ! Thanks in advance -

Anyone with a daughter at Sydenham School?
mumof3girlies replied to tutorse22's topic in The Family Room Discussion
No complaints here - 2 daughters there and echo everything already said , the communication is great, also they seem very aware of the girls educational needs - My only fear about the school was being such a big school - I was worried that girls (particularly less academic) might be lost in a big school but that hasn't been the case. At the other end they cater really well for more able pupils too - what's not to love ... Am waiting to see how the new head fits into the school and steers the school as well as the previous head . Pm me if you want more specific info . -
So here we go again (not been a good week for lost things) my daughter left her PE bag on either 197or 185 bus from forest hill to ED . It is a black cotton bag with hoodie, trainers , polo top and leggings . Keen to get it back as she stupidly had an expensive hoodie and topshop trainers in the bag 😡 A bottle of wine or chocolate on its return Fingers crossed Edited to say it was left on the bus on weds 15th june

mumof3girlies replied to mumof3girlies's topic in The Family Room Discussion
Thank you ! I'll head up tomorrow - appealing price too -
My year 9 daughter has informed me that I need to get her some pom poms for PE , I've asked in a few shops but with no luck - I may have to resort to making them but before that I wondered if anyone knows of somewhere locally that sells them? Will try just Williams and sainsburys this weekend too...

Second recommendation for Stevie Thomas - I got her to do highlights and cut and am way more pleased than any salon colour/cut I've had in years . Very reasonable too . -

Any tips for breastfeeding at a wedding... outfit etc?
mumof3girlies replied to MrsMc's topic in The Family Room Discussion
I went to a wedding with a hungry 5 month old and wore a pretty tea dress with a few buttons on top so I could bf without having to hitch the whole dress up - plus a shawl for a bit if modesty ... -
Has anyone used one of these for swimming following grommets? My daughter had her grommets inserted about 4 months ago and up until now has refused to entertain having one in order to go swimming, but now she has changed her mind as she wants to go swimming with her class. Does anyone have one they no longer need they would be willing to sell or alternatively does anyone know where I can buy one in ED or surrounding areas? I need it by next Tuesday so cannot order it online... Hoping the forum can come to the rescue!! Pls pm or reply to thread if you have any info - thank you

Secondary School Allocations 2013
mumof3girlies replied to Renata Hamvas's topic in The Family Room Discussion
It seems most of my daughter's fellow pupils got their 1st or 2nd choice, we got our first choice - Sydenham Girls, my daughter is delighted as very luckily it was her favourite school as well as ours. Her school friends all live around Goose Green - She goes to St Johns and St Clements and the most commonly featured schools are Kingsdale, Harris Boys, Charter, Harris Girls, Forest Hill Boys and Sydenham Girls, a handful going to Haberdashers on music and a few going to independant schools. In the main I haven't heard of anyone who has not got either 1st, 2nd or 3rd choice. I have no idea whether this has anything to do with the notion that 2001/02 was supposed to be a low birth rate year...? -
Where is the best doctors round here?
mumof3girlies replied to AnnieT's topic in The Family Room Discussion
Another vote for The Gardens we have been with them for 10 years and have seen us through 3 children and all the ailments that come with kids. It is a predominantly female GP staffed practise and in particular Dr Cliffe, Dr Stephens and Dr Tranh are very good with children. Emergency appointments are available in the mornings and there are usually appointments for non-urgent within 2 weeks. The nurses are very good too. -
Help: Baby poo stain on cream carpet
mumof3girlies replied to mothercourage's topic in The Family Room Discussion
Vanish power shot carpet cleaner in a can - it has got stains out of rug and carpets that our carpet cleaning machine failed to do so, stains I have tried - felt tip, chocolate and red wine, truly brilliant in my opinion. Let us know how you get on...good luck:) -
As SE15/Peckham extends from the Old Kent Road as far as East Dulwich Road/Goose Green and includes Nunhead, I think the OP was being specific about where she is....??? truly pathetic Edited to say well done Mrs TP for your kindliness.

Creepy House on Grove Park - what is it?
mumof3girlies replied to giantbears's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
There used to be a children's home on Grove Park that ceased to operate as a children's home sometime in the ?late 90's ?early 2000 - it could be that building, I can't remember what number the children's home was. Hopefully somebody knows more definitively - intrigued to know too -
My daughter had grommets at age 5 and a half, which is quite late, we had been watching and waiting but when school started to get concerned with how engaged she was, we decided to have them done, we were amazed by the instant difference, she was hearing things she had never heard before! she recovered really well from the op, although she was nervous about it before about going in for it, (being a bit older) but we made a huge fuss of her, got her a new toy etc. Not sure where you're having the op, we had it at Evelina and they were brilliant in every way, my daughter can be a bit stubborn and the staff were completely unphased by child refusing to have emla cream/get on trolley etc. etc.! I had read somewhere some research that in a lot of cases when grommets are done at the same time as adenoids removal the impact on hearing is greater, we were told that if the adenoids were large they would remove them, they did and the only difference was she needed a week off school instead of just a day or so. We read some books about going to hospital (?usborne) and that helped prepare her. She had no after effects from the operation or the anesthetic and we were quite concerned about putting her through it, a lot of friends and staff at school noted how much better she was hearing and that she seemed more involved and outgoing than before the op. Good luck with everything! let us know how it goes.. p.s take some nice snacks/favourite foods for after the op, in case she's not keen on food offered.
