  1. I've done a bad/good thing - skiweekends.com cheap weekends skiing 4 days on the slopes for three nights away - sneaking off with a friend and leaving all things little behind - cant wait!
  2. Hello Oi - yes crumpets sound good Friday morning!
  3. Seems harsh on the kids that got their grades in 2011 - does undermine all their hard work for what evidentially so far seems to be a couple of isolated cases.
  4. So contemporary she's not even published yet .. Darcy Burdock a new funny, smart and very modern ten year old heroine from children's writer and performance poet Laura Dockrill ..( latitude, big chill,) You can pre-order on amazon tipped to be next tween novel big thing!http://www.thebookseller.com/news/rhcb-signs-laura-dockrill-three.html
  5. Leaving all Medical advice/non advice aside - what humane person doesn't offer even the vaguest of sympathetic utterings when witnessing a toddler in distress. You don't expect the milk of human kindness to gush every time your toddler takes a tumble but that behaviour sounds totally unacceptable. Speak to the manager. Best wishes to your little one.
  6. I like unusual but familiar so you don't spend your life spelling it ( as I do my surname)?i also wanted nice shorter versions and rejected a few lovely boys names as didn't like short form - we went old testament / Jewish and are neithe r religious or Jewish! If you like it I wouldn't over analyse - Reuben was on our list as was Issac, Atticus, Dante ( bit out there ) Jedidiah ( Jed), love Art ( Arthur ), cassisus ( Cass ) . Good luck!
  7. THE TANGLE TEASER - for its magic knot properties - Boots - a tenner
  8. I think that the One O'Clock club could do with some sort of official relaunch - there seems to be a constant fug of confusion surrounding what used to be a very straightforward and fantastic service. Rumours abound about whether it's opening or closing down, if it is open what days, whether the steam is running uphill or not etc. I've pretty much given up as its been closed the days I've been down there and I know others who feel the same. So sad to see it fizzle out. Could there be a re-launch, re-establishing open afternoon of some sort effectively saying 'we are here'! Rant over
  9. Ah buggies - it's all horses for courses - I had Cameleon with first one and loved it - I took it up mountains and on planes and always loved the fact it was so comfortable for baby and me to push and gotta love that huge basket - after a year or so I bought maclaren too as found mum/babysitters are all familiar with it and nippy for car and bus - friend s with bee never did the maclaren thing so that's a plus for bee - but just to throw spanned in - if your planning another.. We've ended up getting a phil and teds which I was loathe to as its a heavy bugger but brilliantly versatile for baby and toddler - I'm hanging on to Cameleon as when we go back to a single in a year of so - that'll once agai. Be my pram of choice - so having done the rounds I've come to the conclusion - that the Cameleon wins out as the prince of prams!
  10. It's a minefield and one that takes so much thought, money and energy. I went back to work for eighteen months in between babies (leaving eldest witb lovely childminder) and wasn't sure how the nursery thing would pan out where/when etc so ended up putting him down on 5 different lists locally - I thought this was overkill at the time but the ?150 quid I've lost actually bought me options and for me options equal peace of mind. He's now at the Villa which he loves and happens to be nearest to me although he had to start 6 months earlier than I wanted him to otherwise he may have lost his place ( my plan was that baby brother would neatly take his childminder place ) so now in order to keep the childminder place I'm having to pay a retainer there too. I agonised over the situation. It we love the childminder so much ( like part of family ) and I couldn't bear the thought of finding someone else. Both the nursey and childminder are 5 mins away and I've secured the days I need at both when I go back to work in January. I suppose what I'm trying to say is the only way to look at early years childcare is as a loss leader. You are holding your ground in your career and if you enjoy your work it's not too painful. I tied myself in knots a bit to make sure I will have what I consider to be the best possible for my toddler and will be 1 year old next year. I saved up childcare vouchers when I was at work and it certainly feels easier to pay the retainer with those now I'm on maternity leave. Also I'll be better off when the early years money kicks in at nursery in Jan. defiantely worth checking a private nursey works with the government on that one. Im rambling ( it's therapeutic ) - all I can advise is think about all your possible work scearios and cover all bases to give yourself options, then put your fingers in your ears, close your eyes and go blah blah blah until they are at school and you can financially breath again( interestly all the nurseries I put his name down for when he was three months came good at around 2 ( villa, gumboots, Camberwell early years, new one ammot rd and Sainsburys car park one).
  11. We got ours from a company called cash - good quality sea on different fonts logos etc - recommended by the nurser
  12. We just used pushchair in upright mode!
  13. I'm in. Abe is waking 1-2 nights a night since we had baba - usually in the gaps between baba's feeds.#matchsticks
  14. I have an irobot - it's great - sometimes - just for kicks - I stick the dishwasher on, bung a wash in the machine , pop a load in the tumble dryer, whack a casserole in the slow cooker and unleash the i-robot simply to feel like a thoroughly modern Millie - housewife
  15. What is this 'iron' you speak of?
  16. Hi there I've done this trip lots with different baby/toddler/pram combos! I always get there early and stand to the left of the departures board and get a wiggle on as soon as the platform number goes up. ( usually the platforms to left 13) Then head for coach b or d as they are the ones with wheelchair space. I have only once on all the times I've done it in last 3 years had a wheelchair in the space. I always try and get the two little seats next facing the wheelchair space so I can leave toddler in buggy. I the space is full of luggage I've put the pram behind the seat opposite the wheelchair space as its slightly wider ( next to loo). I went last week with just the baby and was late and missed the disabled carriage so I just popped off the carry cot bit and put it on the table leaving the base collapsed in corridor. I always find people really helpful in terms of moving bags , getting drinks etc. good luck!
  17. tiddles Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > god that's awful!! > > I am hoping its a northern/essex thing. > Blimey - outrageously offensive comment alert. Do you genuinely believe all the people from the North of England would like their kids to dress up in tarty prom dresses. Wow.
  18. There's a great one - very cost effective -NHS
  19. Last one in series Tomorrow (wed) Arnold Circus Shoreditch..9pm BBC2
  20. Another series would be great. Although currently on maternity leave and would love to do it again so maybe not quite just yet..!
  21. Each episode has a different director the style of the films are partly dictated by the type of street, available historic sources and archive .
  22. Back South of the river this week - Reverdy Road, Bermondsey an ordinary street with an extraordinary history. 9 pm BBC2 Wednesday 4th July
  23. Next week Portland Road - from slum to uber posh!
  24. This week.. Wednesday at 9 on BBC2 it's The Caledonian Road - a good watch!
  25. Glad you enjoyed it - Caledonian Rd next week - then Reverdy Rd , Bermondsey, the Portland Road, Notting Hill and finally Arnold Circus. It's great that people are appreciating the series - everyone worked so hard to cast the streets, contact all the residents and painstakingly undertake all the original research. I watched the film in the grove pub with some of the lovely contributors - great evening!
