  1. You know the cheap picnic blankets with the black waterproof underside - ?3.99 from sainsburys - work a treat as blackout blinds - used on holiday on several occasions- tucked into the sash or gaffer taped
  2. It appears there is room for a primary school as well as secondary school on the site. Harris are already in on the deal. Seems weird not to wait until secondary school provider appointed for a bit of joined up thinking - ie Habs Hatcham now offer primary school provision for all through education. As do Harris.. maybe that's the plan...
  3. According to Gove's letter to Tessa Jowell it's a done deal with Harris..
  4. I think like many things Gove is involved in - he's got this wrong. I think he's talking about the Nunhead Harris primary that's going to take over the police station in September 2015. The dates mentioned, the name, the trajectory all are weirdly the same as the planned Harris primary which was approved in Feb 2014 to be housed in Harris girls then moved to old police station, LL in September 2015. Let's hope so before Harris takes over the world.
  5. Try Camberwell choir school on Benhill rd - they do lovely class on Saturday morning - mini music group. My favourite of all the music classes!
  6. We've just got back from Nunhead Cemetry open day - really lovely day out- cakes, owls, wood turning and lots of interesting local social initiatives.
  7. I'm a bit confused - I've kept my 4 year old in a pull up at night - was kind of waiting until it was dry in the morning before I took him out as the thought of regular wet beds is unappealing! I think we're almost there - I encourage the loo before bed. Am I missing something? Will he only train with it off?
  8. Have you tried sticker chart ? we did a week of not shouting out once he'd gone to bed and he got a sticker each morning. They were traded in for a trip to toys r us. Broke the habit and did the trick.
  9. Yes I seem to remember was fine - if you go on sky walk thing you have to leave buggy at bottom of lift - I took a sling for that bit. Everything else fine.
  10. Harradines packed and moved us. Local. Brilliant.
  11. Thanks so much for your advice! Have emailed JAGS as seems best option for simul-swim! K
  12. Oh wise people of the family room - please tell of swimming with your offspring. I had a foray into lessons when my son was 18months and I remember it involved queuing very early at Peckham Pulse and a winter of not very successful lessons for various reasons, him with a cold, me with a cold, teacher with a cold etc. I now have a 4 yr old and a 2 yr old. I'd like them both to learn to swim. Can anyone help me navigate the logistics? Can't imagine little one waiting and watching patiently. Is there a set up where big one can swim in group class with teacher and I can simultaneously be in the water in a lesson with the little one? I'm off thurs, fri and weekends. ( when we could take one each) When do the new terms begin? Where do I need to queue at the crack of dawn? I'm equi distant between ED pool and Peckham Pulse, JAGS sounds good. Thanks in advance!
  13. A friend of mine who worked on The Secret History of Our Streets is making this - it'll be a good one!
  14. Thats really bad. Schoolss shouldnt tell parents they are going to bulge and then change their mind. I've just wasted a slot on my form.
  15. Hi I had the same thing - had to attach a baton of wood along one one of the bannister spindles to attach the gate to as needed 'flat' surface to put screws into .
  16. We have both. - scooter much easier in terms of carrying - stick bit comes off and it fits in back of Maclaran.
  17. Dave R - that's pretty low - people deliver leaflets for all sorts of reasons. I dropped flyers for a kids Easter Egg hunt. I have a pretty good grasp of eggonomics.
  18. Sitters.co.uk are a great babysitting agency - everyone we've ever used from there have experienced, often mums, really lovely.
  19. Hi there - my mum is living in Oz at the moment - she's very au fait with all things baby - I can get her to check out some local places if you like.
  20. Pug wash that's heartening to read. A very successful business woman and a great mum of three kids who I used to work for pre-kids once said to me 'I never apologise for working to my kids'. She felt it was really important that the kids viewed your work as something positive in your life. She never said 'I'm really sorry but mummy has to work' or 'mummy will make up for it by buying you that new toy' She felt it was much healthier if they didn't get wind of the fact that you were working but you really felt like you should be with them. Quite a trick to pull off when there will inevitably be guilt and a genuine desire for you all to spend the morning in your jamas cuddling in front of the telly! (which, incedently is where you'll find me on a Thursday morning after three full on days of work and nursery! After naps for we bugger off for some fun leaving our lovely cleaner to it) I always try to put a positive spin on my work in front of the kids( I do actually like it so that helps!) Often on the walk to drop off on a Monday morning I say ' aren't we lucky you're going to see your friends at nursery and I'm going to see my friends at work!' Ok, ok , I confess sometimes my teeth ARE gritted! Massive respect to the incredible multi-tasking, clever mums out there who are using every bit of the guile, cunning and downright hard graft to pull it all off day by day, week by week! Slack. Cut yourself some. X
  21. Thanks for posting - we've booked for Sunday :)
  22. Disclaimer ; I love fried chicken. I once ate some on the bus.
  23. Just a small point in the defence of pavement hogging buggy pushers - pre children I had the same attitude -tutting at said pushers. Two kids and one double buggy later - I am that pavement hogger. I offer an open invite to all pavement and bus tutters ; come push my two sizeable offspring, in their hefty double buggy, complete with it's undercarriage of shopping - it's f#**ing backbreaking. I'm not sure it's a question of entitlement or smugness - more of a practical issue it's hard work to steer and heave around. When I am on my own I leap nimbly out of the way in sympathy if I see a knackered looking pavement hogging parent. Next time you see a buggy - think loaded up shopping trolley with wonky wheel and let it through. Have a fricken heart.
  24. One of my local NCT group chums writes a lovely blog http://pigeonpairandme.com . Regularly featured on mumsnet blog of the day. Well worth a follow!
