I've spent the last 18 months producing a feature documenatary for the cinema and it's finally coming to a cinema near you! It's an amazing story about a Sweden's biggest serial killer - a real life Scandi thriller. It's called The Confessions of Thomas Quick and it's on at 20.45 on Saturday 15th August. It's also on at Picturehouse Central and various accross the country. Several forumites have helped me with childcare juggling and general support over the last few months whilst I've been hopping to Sweden and back. I'd love to have a full house if possible and it would be amazing if I could raleigh some local support. I'll be doing a q & a afterwards. https://www.picturehouses.com/cinema/East_Dulwich_Picturehouse/film/the-confessions-of-thomas-quick-director-qanda https://www.picturehouses.com/cinema/East_Dulwich_Picturehouse#further-ahead

reading in reception - how much?
kittysailing replied to poppy's topic in The Family Room Discussion
We get a book a week and he reads twice a week at school with clear notes sent back in his reading record. I'm led by him in terms of extra - he likes to read to me to prolong bed time but mainly he reads when we're out and about - road signs, place names, adverts on buses - he's desperate to know what stuff says and I say ' you can read it' and he does in the main! -
We have a fantastic nanny and are looking for another family to share with from September. She works Mon-Wed for us but has Thursday's free if you need that day too. We live in Nunhead but as my little one will be at the school nursery Mon & Tues and a half day Wed we could be flexible in terms of location. Do pm me for more information.

Recommendation for childminder near The Villa
kittysailing replied to Sarie's topic in The Family Room Discussion
I had the most wonderful childminder on Denman Rd 5 minute walk from the villa - Stella Sheridan 07908 817523 pm me for more details -
Why don't you just have a chat - that may have been a one off day - although that food sounds fine with a bit of fruit/yoghurt. Just have a conversation about what your child likes to eat and what you like your child to eat. It's all up for negotiation when it comes to childcare from my experience. Communication is key.

He charges ?150 for a single will and ?175 for a joint will. I have a couple of appoinments left if you'd like one. Contact me on: [email protected] (lots of nice recommendations in business section under 'Making a will')

Have just finished wrapping all kids FC present and piled them on two sledges ( family tradition) and have suddenly been struck by how bonkers it is to give a kid over twenty presents all in one go! We've spent around ?100 on each kid which husband reckons is fairly modest. I think it seems a lot. Just wondered what the average spend was?

Youth Hostels for family trips
kittysailing replied to david_carnell's topic in The Family Room Discussion
Have done this lots of times with my kids (2&5) and always had a great time. With smaller children we always book a family room ( usually a bunk with a double bit at bottom) but when I've been with older kids we've shared a dorm with up to ten others which is much more cost effective. The YHA have a comprehensive website which gives details of all the hostels. The hostels have shared 'members' kitchens for self catering but most hostels provide decent meals ( and wine too!) They are usually in lovely, unique buildings and kids really enjoy the freedom of the games rooms and often extensive grounds. We've mainly stayed in the lakes, Scotland and Cornwall but have also stayed in several in Wales( tintagel particularly magical) Closer to London I'd recommend Lulworth Cove in Dorset, Telcombe which is right on a South Downs Way and we had a great weekend at Epping Forest - we took the bikes and had a bonfire at night. We stayed in one in Holbury St Mary, Surrey, a few Christamasses ago - you can hire the whole hostels if there is a big gang of you. They all vary in character depending on location and who runs them. Favourite one is Black Sail Pass in the lakes which is an old bothy up a mountain and can only be reached on foot! PM me for specifics! -

Parent and toddler group welcoming to dads
kittysailing replied to PeckhamNicola's topic in The Family Room Discussion
There's always dads at the stay and play at Ivydale children's centre - and a specific dad's group on a Saturday morning. One O'clock club is a good place too.
