Secondary School admissions 2021
kittysailing replied to whingeo's topic in The Family Room Discussion
I think it?s really shocking that Southwark dont offer ?catchment? guidance. Lewisham sent a really clear email with exact catchment information. We are expected to choose schools for our kids having never set foot in any of them. There needs to be extra information published to assist with this difficult and impossible process. -
If 'making a will' is still on your to-do list my f-I-l offers at home weekend appointments to draw up wills and power of attorneys. He's on [email protected] for an appointment or Skype call.

He didn't buy the meat and told them in no uncertain terms that they shouldn't be selling potentially poisonous meat.

My husband went into to the co-op on Lordship lane and bought some meat from chilled cabinet . When he got to the till the cashier asked him if he was planning to eat the meat today. When he asked why that was relevant he was told that the fridges had gone off overnight and they weren't sure how long the fridges had been off. My husband asked to speak to th manager and told him it was dangerous to sell meat that had not been in the fridge - they said they were in the process of throwing some of it away. Don't buy meat from there today!

home education: anyone doing it?
kittysailing replied to AnneBowers's topic in The Family Room Discussion
It's such a bold decision- and I think I understand it if you've tried school and it really doesn't work for your child or you're planning on sailing round the world. what I don't get is how and why would you make that call based on no experience of today's incredible primary school education? To deny your child a potentially amazing childhood at school with all the life enriching experiences and friendships that it entails boldly marking them out as 'different' for the rest of their lives is such a radical thing to do on their behalf. I understand that the 1 to 1 education will surely advance them academically- but have to question why a parent wouldn't choose to do that alongside mainstream education should they so wish. I'm not trying to be provocative I just don't get it. What's led you to make that decision? -

Ivydale Scaffolding and playground area
kittysailing replied to lucyannejames's topic in The Family Room Discussion
Just email the school and ask - it was supposed to be finished before term started but the council contractors have run over which is out of the school's control I guess. I was thinking how hectic everything must look for new parents but once it's all down there is actually a lot more space and everything feels a lot calmer at drop off! -
