Ballet classes for a 3 year old Saturday or Sunday
Mens replied to childcareee2017's topic in The Family Room Discussion
After absolutely loving the trial lesson, my girls have just started at The South London School of Ballet and are really happy there. I find it nicer to do a regular thing as long as it's close to home and at a convenient time and as long as you don't end up having too many regular things/classes (which is what happened to us at one point). -
Kings and I'm pretty sure you can self refer. We have been with them for almost a decade and they are brilliant

Home schooling - Advice? - anyone wants to do it together?
Mens replied to MW's topic in The Family Room Discussion
Hi Can someone PM me the info too M x -
One thing that helped me was having the eldest two in afterschool club a couple of days a week. This meant I got proper full days with the little one. The school day just seems really short when you factor in drop off and pick up times. I would say it's exhausting but massively fun having three especially when they reach an age where they all start playing together! Mine are 5, 8 & 10 now and sometimes I don't see them for hours as they're off playing (making tents or drawing on their little sister's face!)

My son's doctor has made me so cross.

Hi I hope he's better now. I've asked my GP this question about antibiotics in the past and the reason that they are prescribed even when it's a virus is because viruses cause secondary bacterial infections (so when you have a virus your body is prone to or vulnerable to bacterial infections, I think conjunctivitis is bacterial for example). Viruses are difficult to treat and take a lot of testing to pinpoint. When my daughter was unwell she had to be treated with broad spectrum anti-virals via a drip and they still didn't really know what they were treating they just threw everything at it. In the end I think her body fought it off. -
Hi lovely people, Does anyone know of any hip hop/ breakdance/ Bollywood classes locally? My ten year old wants to extend her dance skills and get into new genres of dance but all of the classes seem to be in central London. She already does ballet, two etc so not looking for that. Thanks

Swimming lessons @ Peckham Pulse (pre-school) advice needed
Mens replied to EDlittlemoo's topic in The Family Room Discussion
My girls used to go years ago and really enjoyed it. The pool is super shallow (less than half a metre when they raise the floor) and really warm. The children can easily walk around in it. They didn't make much progress but I know other children who did. -
Hi Does anyone have an adult size Captain Hook costume that I can borrow/buy/hire? Or even the hat and the hook?? Just been asked to dress is as Hook for world book day on Thursday as part of our team at work.... Short notice so scrambling for items!

Any advice about accommodation in or near disneyland paris?
Mens replied to echo's topic in The Family Room Discussion
My girls loved the explorers hotel. Cheap and cheerful. Basic rooms but two fab pirate ships (one in the lobby and one outdoors), a soft play area and a large swimming pool with slides etc. one of mine has allergies and they were very accommodating with the manager making her meals and storing and warming food brought from home. This made a huge difference to our trip. Shuttle bus to the parks and nice to be away from the parks in the evening actually. Didn't like the bedding and the bath was tiny, but then you get what you pay for when it comes to the rooms. -

I had a lovely massage and facial at Mothers Inc last week! What a wonderful, relaxing place. I've had treatments before but found them very clinical, this was lovely. I felt as if I was out of London away at a spa. Definitely a lovely treat for us mums who don't do enough for ourselves and great that it is so local (on Forest Hill Road near the top of Peckam Rye).

Another vote for superkidsswimming but the intensive summer course is what worked for us rather than weekly lessons. -

If you could re-train, what would it be in?
Mens replied to Ole's topic in The Family Room Discussion
I re-trained as a teacher after becoming a mum and love the work life balance but recently wished that I had studied medicine instead. Teaching definitely works for family life and is enjoyable if you are in a school that suits you -
This sounds good. Please keep us updated about next meet up.

Driving on my own with 2 toddlers in the car
Mens replied to Didine's topic in The Family Room Discussion
Definitely leave just before nap time. Also I bought a car DVD player on eBay last week for just ?13 and there were several for sale. A couple of their favourite films should take up the entire journey. Good Luck! -
trivago website has cheap hotels. Read the reviews though so you get what you want. There are several Disney partner hotels that have a shuttle straight to the park. Tickets can be bought from the Disney store

Our supposes help let us down so we ended up having the girls with us (aged three and four). They actually really enjoyed being there and didn't care that I was in pain. I had prepared them in advance by watching one born every minute just incase I went into a fast labour at home or something and they ended up seeing the birth. If I had another baby I would def have them all there (not having any more). Just basically my advice is to let your little one know as much as possible what will happen so if you end up being let down it won't matter. The midwives actually wanted to take the girls to the nurses station to entertain them but they were having too much fun copying mummy (bending down and breathing into cups as their gas and air). Then jumping up and down clapping when their sister was being squeezed out!

Definitely go for it. You might regret it later if you miss this window. They do learn to hold it after a few months but in the meantime there are travel potties that are quite useful.

Thank you Hazel. For the child who received your gifts you were a HUGE part of this. You were the whole reason they got to forget their diagnosis for an afternoon and you gave them the exciting opportunity to cheekily open an armful of Xmas presents Before Christmas Day! Thank you! Thank you all!

Just wanted to say "Thank you" on behalf of the children on the wards of University College Hospital London. Heal The World for Children were able to take hundreds of presents to the wards on floors 11 and 12 and delight the lovely children who are unfortunate enough to have to spend Christmas in hospital. The children on the day ward, baby unit, general ward and two cancer wards were treated to a fantastic sing-a-long lead by year 7 and 8 students from Sylvia Young Theatre School, got to meet Santa and every child and their siblings each received bundles of gifts. Thanks to the incredible generosity of the members of the East Dulwich Forum, Community Links Bromley, Giving Tree World Ltd and the fund-raising efforts of the SYTS students we were also able to leave a cage full of toys to be given to children who are admitted between Christmas day and New Year. You were all credited during the visit. Without you all the event would not have been the success it was. Thank you very much. I wish you could have all seen their smiles and the tears from the nurses. We were due to leave at 3.15pm but the children pleaded with us to stay far longer. THANK YOU ALL!! (Photos to follow in the coming days) It was a wonderful event and mainly thank you goes to all you lovely people!
