  1. Looking for some advice here! Our little one is sleeping, finally, but still gets upset when going to bed or waking up. Has anyone tried one of the star/galaxy projectors you can get for them at night, and does it distract and sooth them enough to send them to sleep? Recommendations are very welcome here, as there are many different options online, from the suspiciously cheap to eye wateringly expensive. Is it a case of you get what you pay for? Advice gratefully received! LL
  2. Thanks Jazzer - just saw that myself! I clearly didn't read the sign on the front when I went there...
  3. The delivery office in Peckham has been closed each time I visited over the past two days, despite supposedly being open 800-1900. Anyone know if there is a reason for that, or have I just been unlucky with my timings? EDIT: Apparently it's only open 0800-1000 (10am that is), so ignore me.
  4. What a lovely end to this thread - enjoy your new home!

Same. Other than when the posts veer into the offensive, the worst part about them is how low effort the various characters are. I'd respect the craft if there was some proper character building stuff, rather than launching straight into lazy, stereotypical/extreme opinions. That said, Steven here is just getting started - welcome Steven, don't cause any trouble and you could give some light relief.
  7. what did we do to get a starring role?
  8. If you don't have any luck finding somewhere on here, you can buy yourself a blood pressure reader for around ?12-15 - most chemists sell them. I know it's not ideal, but it's a solution if you can't get an appointment.
  9. On that note- can anyone that uses the local gyms give us an idea of how full they are? With all the spacing, will we have to queue for machines etc, or are they ghost towns?
  10. Hi all - sorry to be a buzzkill, but if you search for cycle storage on here you'll see a few posts of members who have had their bikes nicked from them at the beginning of lockdown. There was a spate of people breaking them open then cutting through locks. My friend who uses one has also had a few emails about his reminding people that they need to lock them when closing the hatch.... I am likewise desperate to keep my bike somewhere, as I am in a first floor flat with stairs by the front door. I just wanted to make sure you knew what you were getting into! If it helps, I have bought a cover for my bike (memorably named a 'bike bra') that does a good job of keeping my carpets clean! Not perfect, but an option whilst you wait or storage/consider their security.
  11. Thanks all for your responses. I reluctantly accept that the SAS are not practising maneuvers over the Rye Garden nursery, and that it is probably just the boring old police. I hope at least they are scouting over Dawson Hill, so this thread can become a sub plot of the EDF shared universe we have going on at the moment.

I want to believe, KK. I want to believe that it is the special forces that are keeping me awake, not some two bit Arnie Pye...
  13. Hi all Has anyone else noticed that we are getting visits from huge* sounding helicopters at around midnight? They seem to be circling around Peckham Rye, so maybe you true East Dulwichers are spared the noise, but I swear they are a new addition to the small hours, and happening every few days! Any idea what they are doing up there? I know they could be taking patents to hospitals, or perhaps the police are mucking about with new toys... what I really want to know is why they feel like doing it past midnight! *I have no idea what a size they actually are, but I'm a dramatist so in my head I've decided they are those double blade military ones you see in war films
  14. The White Horse in Peckham was serving last weekend too!
  15. On that note - does anyone know why there are so many helicopters going around? I'd swear most nights past 12 there is one hovering about. They can't all be going to the hospital, surely?
  16. This is the Lounge though Foxy, police would never scroll down this far.
  17. We got someone nearby who *started* playing music outside at 2am! I wouldn't want to hurt them, but I didn't really know what else to do other than stare forlornly at my ceiling and hope that my bad vibes would mean they would be overcome with guilt (they weren't). Having to open the window in the heat really does make a noise difference though. In my last place, I used to hear a dawn chorus of different phone alarms going off on summer mornings....

Some of the waiting lists are well over two years long. Not impossible for them to be patiently planning their theft in advance, but certainly not likely. Also, you have to pay for a key (which is posted to your address), pay a years membership in advance and spring for a deposit so it's closer to ?75 they'd have to cough up to do this. I reckon they are just breaking in on a whim, rather than paying. If you're going to angle grind a bike lock, you may as well break into the shed.
  19. Thanks, I'll look into that! Seems they are called 'bike bras'
  20. Anyone got any clever ideas for storing a bike indoors without causing a mess if it's raining/muddy? Probably better to go to a landlord with a plan in case they worry about their carpets. I can't think of anything other than getting some carpet shampoo and hoping for the best.
  21. Terrible news - I'm sorry this happened to you, bikes have become an essential source of mental well being as well as a mode of transport. I will say that these hangers aren't as intuitive as they could be. You have to close the lid *and* make sure the locking mechanism is put in place. Very possible that someone could close the lid and just assume it locked its self. I noticed my one being left unlocked in this way occasionally. I asked Cyclehoop to email people in my shed with a gentle reminder to check it is locked - sorry if anyone reading this happens to be in my shed - I'm not being passive aggressive, they are slightly more complicated than they appear, and break ins are a cause for concern.
  22. Its closer to ?70 for the (first) year if you include the deposit. Frustrating that they seem so under utilised. I wouldn't mind too much if the bikes were kept in there despite never being used, but to walk past empty racks whilst knowing the waiting list is years long is aggravating. Does anyone have any other practical solutions to lack of bike storage?
  23. Sorry Lumpen, I'm too far from you to join your campaign - though I have requested some more around East Dulwich road. Does anyone happen to know if/when we are getting more installed? There is a waiting list over two years long for the ones near me... Rather frustratingly, when I was chatting to someone using the sheds near my flat, I was told that the one he used (with a two year wait) had spaces that weren't used at all! Edit: You can check which hangers have spaces here: https://www.cyclehoop.rentals/
  24. If you are looking for spaghetti, East Dulwich food and wine, just down from the Tesco Express on East Dulwich Road, has some!
  25. Hi all. For some reason, a vaguely remembered fact come into my mind this morning. We are, (or were) lucky enough to have a bit of history right under our noses, as the streachers they used to transport those injured in the Blitz were later made into fences across South East London. Some, I think, are in Dulwich/Peckham. I wanted to see if I walked past any in my daily life, and found that there was a campaign in 2017 to 'save' or commemorate them in some way: https://www.standard.co.uk/news/london/campaign-launched-to-save-south-londons-stretcher-fences-once-used-to-carry-wounded-civilians-in-the-a3609751.html I apologise if the answer takes somebody else seconds to find, but I couldn't see the outcome of the campaign online, and the campaign website doesnt seem to load from me. So, were the ones at risk saved? I admit the lack of info doesn't seem positive. Likewise, does anyone know of any that may still exist? I'm not sure why, but the fact that they existed, the resourcefulness of their repourposing, and the fact that we could walk past them without knowing their history really touched me. I'd quite like to know where they are, does anyone have info?
