S**t show on Bellenden Road
ArchieCarlos replied to ArchieCarlos's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Sorry, here's the zoomed in version -
I saw this on the corner of Chadwick Road today, which elicited a chuckle. I feel sorry for the author but admire the production quality.

New Shops in Dulwich / Peckham - 2024 Edition
ArchieCarlos replied to Joe's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
A new bakery is opening in Herne Hill called Bunhead Bakery on Sunday. It’s on the side of Brockwell Park, at 145 Dulwich Rd The website doesn’t say much but says they do sourdough with Palestinian flavours, which could be interesting. -
How do dispose of sharps bins
ArchieCarlos replied to ArchieCarlos's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Thank you for your replies all. Elloriac, I followed your advice: I filled out the form and they said they would collect today. So I left the sharps bins on my front door last night, with a not like you said and this morning they were all gone! Fantastic. -
I feel like I need a 'Rory Stewart' style quick explanation on the debate around Dulwich LTN. Would anyone have any pointers to a balanced summary? I'm moving to the village soon and I feel like I need to understand this better given the strength of sentiment expressed on some of these threads. Any help appreciated!

Food poisoning at Dugard & Daughters - twice!
ArchieCarlos replied to ArchieCarlos's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
I think you're imagining too much into this. I've never heard of 'Theweekend' (unless my wife is posting without me knowing!) I find it disappointing that you automatically assume I'm either stupid (can't cook!) or evil (on a vendetta against a shop). I'm not sure what you think my motive might be, but I've no animosity towards that shop. It's not very nice when you share an experience on this forum and old timers brigade you, dismiss what you say and blame you for something unpleasant that that happened to you. Imagine if this was you. Personally, I think their chicken thigh supplier is not good. I used to shop in Smithfield and I know most butchers just buy them in 5kg tubs. Voila. -
Hi, I have a few filled and empty sharps bins to dispose of. My GP has filled out a form for the council and they've come to us while we were away, left two large sharps bins and no instructions. Would any of you know what to do? In the meantime I've gained another two empty sharps bins to add to my collection... Many thanks

I asked the same question in this forum a few months ago, as my wife wanted to learn to drive but was quite nervous after having had sessions with someone very stressful. The recommendation we saw most often was Silvano, which she's been very happy with and who has helped her build her confidence. You can read more recommendations for him here

Food poisoning at Dugard & Daughters - twice!
ArchieCarlos replied to ArchieCarlos's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
It's not libel. I am reporting my experience and asking if anyone else has experienced the same. The purpose of this website is all about sharing positive and negative recommendations of local businesses and traders. Chicken was cooked through, I always check it. It was kept in the sealed styrofoam tray in the fridge at 4 degrees. I even have a separate little thermometer inside my fridge to be sure the temperature is in the right place. I haven't kept the leftovers, and threw the second packet (which I had frozen) away. I may well be very unlucky, but being sick twice after eating chicken from there has certainly put me off. My wife is pregnant and I just don't want to take the risk. It's a shame as I like the shop and make a point of using independents (I haven't bought meat, fish or veg in a supermarket in 2+. years). I will shop for meat in Ginger Pig, William Rose and Flock & Herd. -
I would advise against Dragon Castle. It's overpriced and really not that high quality (one dish came to me only half defrosted), with excruciatingly slow service. After going there 3 times, we've given up. Instead I would recommend some of the many new Chinese places which have cropped up on E&C: Pot & Rice (Taiwanese), Murger Han (Xi'an food), Oisoi (Jiangnan cuisine, more high-end) and so on.

Hi, I was wondering if anyone else has suffered from food poisoning after eating chicken from Dugard & Daughters in HH? My wife and I have been sick twice in about a month. First it was after eating spatchcock chicken, we felt sick shortly after eating it and threw the rest away. We still went back last weekend and go chicken thigh fillets. Once cooked, we noticed they tasted “gamey”, sort of like duck but it was clearly chicken and not something I’ve experienced before. This morning both of us felt sick. I hard a tough time on the toilet, my wife vomited all day and we’re now in A&E as she’s in a lot of pain.

They’re just an estate agent, they don’t do interior design. However they ‘curate’ what they sell by only taking on certain styles of houses, which is why they all look similar to you. They have a certain target customer who is looking for this style of house and they will list houses all in this period style. Their sister company is The Modern House which does the same but for modernist looking properties (we had them in to value ours) It’s an interesting idea as it goes against the traditional estate agent model of being focused on an area (whatever the property type) and instead focusing on a property type nationwide. They keep a directory of interior designers, architects, etc. On their website. Thats how we found our architects when we refurbished our place. hope that helps

Great news about Janga! I find that ED lacks much choice for east Asian dining. Does anyone know what is the Chinese restaurant being fitted out next to the Cheese Block on LL? -
Hi everyone, My wife and I are expecting our first in July/August. I've two questions I'm hoping you could help me with: assuming costs are not an issue, how early would you send your child to nursery? how early should one register for nurseries around ED/Peckham/Camberwell? Or how long in advance of the date you're hoping your child to start there? Some friends have scared us with talks of needing to register right when our child is born or even before, but I'm wondering if it's just scare mongering. Many thanks!

Sainsburys - Dog Kennel Hill, muggings & assaults...

Someone speaking reason and sense, and urging moderation? NO!!! I want employees fired and public floggings because I read something on the internet! -
Agree with OP I was ready to dislike it as I thought it was a big chain but...I've now been half a dozen times and really enjoyed it. Everything is made fresh to order, the staff are nice, the room not too busy and the food was tasty. Really like the lunch salads!

Hi, Some guy on a bicycle stole two parcels which Amazon has annoyingly dropped at my front door while I was out. Did it in the full daylight, at about 2pm yesterday. We live in the Bellenden road area. I watched the security camera recording and could see him lingering up and down the street, watching people's front yards to see if there were any left parcels. Has anyone else had this happen to them?

Hi, I'd like to recommend Shandra Poleon. who's been cleaning our house near Bellenden Road for the past 6 months. She's fantastic, super thorough, punctual, proactive, and very organized. Best cleaner we've ever had! We couldn't be happier. I know she has availability on a couple of days a week still. Her number is 07948 281752

Satellite Tv - Digital Aerial - WiFi - Engineer
ArchieCarlos replied to Top signal service's topic in Reviews
Dan & team came to install an aerial and two security cameras in my house. They were polite, punctual, clean and precise. Very responsive communications and fair price. Very professional. -
True, but the reaction would be no different: most neighbours would complain about it under various pretences. See for example the special needs school being built by the council next to my house (Bellenden), on the site of a recently-closed primary school. At least a dozen people found pretexts to oppose the development. Of course they claim to be in favour of better facilities for special needs kids - just not in their backyards! My experience is the people who complain about "more car traffic" seem to be car owners who don't want more traffic/trouble parking for themselves. Like 2nd generation immigrants who are somehow super anti-immigration (Priti Patel)
