  1. Hi, I think it's a bit unfair, I find the consultation website quite good. Takes a little while getting used to, but you can then zoom on every part of every street, click and see what is going on in great detail and precision. Overall I am not against the changes, but one thing bothers me: the car parking on Gilkes Crescent & Dulwich Village. It's nice that they keep 19 public car parking bays, however they've gone from being free to costing £5.10 per hour, which seems extremely expensive to me. It's more expensive than on-street parking in Chelsea or Westminster, but Southwark is far from being as rich a borough as those. That would be a big loss of amenity to the locals (and not so locals who like to visit the village). I would suggest they offer 30min free parking and then paid after this at a more reasonable rate, in keeping with what they charge on, say, Lordship Lane.
  2. Hi, We are looking for a night nanny, 2-5 nights a week to help with our 1 month old. We live near Bellenden Road and we have a separate bedroom and bathroom for the nanny to stay in.
  3. Looking for a nanny, private chef, receptionist, property manager and cleaner but willing to pay £14/h. Oh and you're supposed to do all this in 2-3h per day. And I'll be monitoring your performance and tracking your KPIs. And you'll have to be LOYAL. But think of the learning opportunities! Yikes!
  4. Young female tabby, 4 months old, not microchipped. Seems familiar with humans and very cuddly. Found on Waghorn St, has been hiding for a couple days behind bins. Please contact me directly if this is your cat or if you know whom she belongs to!
  5. I'm glad you mentioned it, it's unfathomably bad and patchy. I've tried switching from EE to Three to Vodafone to Giffgaff (O2's network) and they were all crap, I ended up going back to EE and I'm still 'delighted' when I can get 2 bars of reception out of 4. It also seems like mobile phone companies aren't really seeing the problem. While EE and Vodafone admit their 5G is a little patchy, they claim to have perfect 4G coverage in the area (screenshots below). I wonder if there's a good way to report this issue to network providers?
  6. Hi Magda. My wife and I recently had our baby at St Thomas’s. The care we received was great, and I liked that as a teaching hospital we always had two midwives looking after us (a qualified one and a final year trainee midwife), which isn’t the case in all places. Almost everyone we dealt with was caring and pleasant and it feels like a generally well run place. I also like that all the delivery rooms and most of the postnatal rooms have massive windows with great views around London from their location on the upper floors. In that respect Kings feels more like a rabbit warren. Comparison wise, we have many friends who recently had babies at Kings and said it was fine. Our antenatal class leader (a senior midwife) told us she would definitely choose St Thomas or Lewisham over Kings. The CQC reports are also much more flattering for St Thomas and Lewisham. Yes it’s a bit further away for the regular midwives appointments but it’s not that bad. And for the big day, our midwives reassured us and said don’t worry, when you start to have contractions, it’s extremely unlikely you wouldn’t have plenty enough time for the 30min trip from ED to Tommys. Overall I think they’re all fine, but as a regular visitor to both Kings and St Thomas, I would prefer to spend 5 days in the latter than the former (as we recently did due to c-section) and St Thomas generally feels less understaffed/reliant on locum staff than Kings
  7. As Malumbu says, it's nothing new. Below are some pictures of Choumert Street market in Peckham during the summer. As you can see the awnings cover the whole sidewalk. So Bora is not causing any impediment to anyone, giving some free shade to pedestrians and a nice spectacle of fruit display - case closed. If you guys are looking for something to argue about, why don't you join the LTN debate on the transport forum?
  8. I wonder if you have been able to deal with Lidl's head office as a first port of call. I would imagine them not being happy at all to hear this happened, and they would likely launch an internal investigation where they can interview colleagues, access CCTV records, etc. If that didn't work and the police isn't being more helpful, perhaps the media might help - it seems like something the Guardian might report on
  9. Here are some pictures which show that it's not obstructing anything or anyone. Seriously people, just live and let live. I can't believe you would want to bother the council, waste taxpayer money, waste your own time and seek to harm a local business because of a piece of white cloth. Of all the fights to be fought, I'm sure you can find a more worthy cause to defend with your time. btw their French black plums are really good right now, same for the French melons (cheaper than the Italian ones).
  10. Absolutely disgusting! The council should be shutting them down at once and have their tomatoes thrown on the facade for good measure! Nothing less will satisfy my outrage. More seriously it's a strange thing to be complaining about. Yes, you need to walk under their drape/awning thing to cross the pavement - but is that really so bad?
  11. Piotr did our front door walkway, replacing ugly, irregular concrete with beautiful Victorian mosaic tiles and they look great! Agree with the above reviews, I would recommend him and use him again.
  12. Bora is great for treats and for unusual ingredients. I really enjoy their Italian melons (the ones with a little red wax seal). Yes they're £5.95, but they taste like sweet childhood holidays on the Med, unlike the £2 Sainsbury's melons which taste like hard wax. To choose a good one, smell the back of the melon and if good, it will be fragrant and sweet. I also buy the elongated cherry tomatoes as they're almost always ripe, sweet and tasty. With plums and peaches, you have to check as it's a bit hit and miss. The white asparagus are pricey but yummy with a little bowl of hollandaise sauce to dip into (don't forget to peel the hard skin of the asparagus). Yesterday they had large green figs, so that was my special treat. A big part of the pleasure for me is checking what sort of new thing they might have in stock, or trying a fruit I've never had before. And of course being to be able to find rarer ingredients, for example: this week I needed Thai basil and large dried chillies, and sure enough they had some). And I still marvel at the beautiful display every time I visit. Note: if the fruit is tasty, it's usually because it's been picked ripe and will therefore last less long than an unripe fruit. But be aware that unripe fruit rarely ripens at home: if you buy unripe melons or strawberries, they will never get ripe at your home. I think bananas and pears are the only ones I can genuinely ripen at home. Hope that helps!
  13. Agreed. And you will have saved the planet from several kilos of disposable plastic wrapping too!
  14. Oh no! I wonder why this happened. As you say, I really hope they continue to have high quality and choice of produce, it's my favourite shop on the whole street.
  15. I believe you're referring to SELDOC aka South East London Doctors Cooperative, a GP co-operative to provide out of hours primary care to patients across SE London
  16. Does know what is the new shop next to the Palmerston, where Dulwich Café used to be? Looks like they're ready to open (if not open already)

  18. I’ve seen them in Bora. Also goose eggs being sold there and by the egg lady at the North Cross Rd market on Saturday. I’ve cooked with goose eggs (delicious soft boiled) but how do you use ostrich ones?
  19. Hi Katie, I'm sorry to hear what happened to you. I have been worried something like this might happen to me and so I've had dash & rear cameras from Nextbase (https://nextbase.co.uk/dash-cams/) installed in my car. It cost me £160 + about £50 for a professional installation. No wires visible, no need to charge it (it's plugged into the car) and peace of mind should something like this happen. It turns on/off automatically when I start/switch off the car, and it also activates automatically if your car is parked and someone bumps into it. I like that I don't need to do anything with it, but it's there if I ever need it.
  20. So the central idea proposed is: Do we really believe that once the Treasury collects money from fines, they will be so much more altruistic than the council? They are not. The central government grants to councils have been reduced by 40% in real terms between 2009/10 and 2019/20, from £46.5bn to £28bn in 2023/24 prices. Councils are trying to compensate through various means, including squeezing drivers. Meanwhich councils are still on the hook for elderly care, road maintenance, etc. Once the Treasury gets a sniff of traffic contravention money, it will be like crack cocaine: they will want more and more of it and demand councils install more traffic cameras to feed them more of that sweet contravention money. This is what is happening in France for example where central government gets the speed camera money and pushes local authority to install more and more of them.. The way I see it: not only will it fail to reduce the number of fines levied on the people of Southwark, but the money generated will be taken out of the local community and we will have even less say about the whole thing than we do now.
  21. Whippersnappers in Dulwich Park host Birthday parties in the pretty old park keeper's lodge by the entrance: https://whippersnappers.org/kids-and-teens/hire-us/birthday-party/
  22. Haha it’s a bit like saying you have a problem paying £800k for a 3-bed house in ED given it costs £80k in Denbighshire
  23. We tried Viet Flavours yesterday. They opened a few days ago next to Franco Manca on LL and are doing 20% off until the end of the month. Food was very good and fresh, perfect for the warm weather of late. They have a nicely decorated room and service was friendly. Prices are on the higher end but not that different from others in the area (opening discount well worth it). We liked that they have the classics (Pho, Banh Mi, Bun Bo Hue, Vietnamese coffee, etc.) but also some dishes more rarely seen (crispy pancakes, anchovy chicken wings, tamaring fish, Saigo/Hoian rice place). Lots of veggie options too. We will be coming back.

  25. We hear so many stories about police not dealing with crimes quickly enough or at all, so it's nice to read they've done a really good job finding the suspects and all the evidence needed to charge them in just a few days.
