  1. I escorted a relative on polling day to vote at the general election. She has a disability. The polling sttaion is a little out of the area (The gallery - along peckham Road SE5 - next to the university). The relative has a physical disability, and found the the walk from the street into the polling station an ordeal, especially as the polling station was was at the back of the gallery, via the cafe. Once we finally arrived at the polling station, we noticed one of the polling clarks wearing a coat which related to a political party. The rules are crystal clear with appropriate dressed with polling staff, in that ONLY BLACK OR WHITE should be displayed. We challenged the polling clark, and she replied "We were just told to wear something comfortable" seem like a training issue to me. This was approx 1:30pm, so the polls had been opened at this time for over six hours at this point. We brought it to the attention of the Proceeding Officer, who was also close in wearing a top relating to a political party. She did not seem interested at all, and seem to be more interested in me not joining my family member in the booth. The next thing I whitness was the PO standing between the family member and myself. The PO did not even want me to talk to the family member. I completely get protecting the secret voting, but the PO did seem stressed, it was not a good experience. When asked what I was meant to do, the PO asked me to leave the polling station. It was a very stressful experience, i think we will choose to vote by post next time. I did contact electoral services. As you can imagine, they were busy on the day, when i finally got through, I was informed I would be connected to a officer from electoral services but this lead to the call being disconnected. I called back, spoke to the call centre again, an electoral officer and then a senior electoral officer. I told them about the dress code of there staff, and left out the behavior of the PO. Not a happy experience :(
  2. I read your message, and it really saddened me. 2 years, and still trying to get your works carried out? I am pretty sure you are entitled to compensation when this council contractor fails to keep an appointment. Have you contacted the council? I am not impressed with southwark council over the lack of scrutiny and accountability for this contracting company. Where are these Clark of works from Southwark who are not inspecting the quality of these works?? This contracting company is receiving vast sums of public money??? I think this company has been left unmonitored, with no checks and balances from this council. The London Borough of Southwark has to share equal responsibility for this contracting company.
  3. You assumed correctly Kalamitykel, have a nice day
  4. Hello Pugwash, all I can say, is sorry on behalf of the ONS and census test 2017. Its a test and there are many lessons to be learned. As mentioned, your three householders who all refused to complete will not receive any further visits or reminders.
  5. Hello All, Wow so many questions, i will attempt to answer for you. 1. If you do not want to participate in the census test all you need to do is inform the census officer of a refusel, job done. 2. The 2017 test is about testing new equipment, technology and questions, for example householders now are encourage to go online for the first time and complete. 3. 3 reminders were sent out, and up to five visits are carried out to support those householders to complete the questionnaire. The only way to stop the visits or reminders is to either complete the questionnaire online, or refused to complete. 3. Censor Officers have been dispatched during the evening times and at weekends because that is the most likely time householders will be at home. 4. Sorry to learn you do not open the door to people you dont know, perhaps you could of telephoned the public helpline and inform the call centre you did not want to take part, as unless the census staff are made aware, they will simply return. 5. sorry to learn the public number has been used, and your still getting visits, normally a refuel will stop all visits. The one good news to share is the test period has now ended, so you will no longer be visited or have furture reminders sent. Have a good day
  6. Hello All, I am a census coordinator, so I maybe able to help with any queries you may have. I am not on the Est Dulwich forum officially, but if I can help in anyway, please let me know.
  7. Hello dbboy, I guess "tests" are carried out to find out alternately if changes will affect response rates. So a number of things are included in the test, with the obvious trying to encourage households to complete there questionnaires only online. The ONS are also exploring additional questions, and testing the wording of different "sorry you was not in" cards. I guess it is like a dress rehearsal for the real thing, when the entire country are expected to participate.
  8. Hello dbboy, The test census 2017 is part of the preparations for the 2021 census. It will give the Office National Statistics (ONS) a chance to test new systems and services, as well as try out new additional questions. 100,000 households have been randomly selected across 7 areas in England and wales to fill in the test questionnaire online. The Area of Southwark is one of them. A further 108, 000 householders across the rest of England and wales are also involved, with a combination of paper questionnaire or instructions to go online, although any of the households can complete online.
  9. Hello All, A number of householders in ED and surrounding areas would have been chosen as the sample to complete the test census currently being rolled out. If you have been a lucky householder chosen, remember to complete your questionnaire online ASAP. For those struggling, Census Officers will be hitting ED at the end of next week, to provide support and information.
  10. There seem to be a lot of misleading messages typed here. I received a PVT message from the manager of the branch, inviting me call or see her. I went into the shop yesterday. The Manager was really apologetic, and did not want this experience to stop me donating. She genuinely wanted to get to the bottom of what happened, but adopt more of a training/awareness view point, than scolding someone. The manager intends to communicate with me next week. In regards to "volunteers being overwhelmed" that is not the impression i received from the manager, they seem to have good systems in place to distribute excess donations elsewhere, and had quite a large storage space on the day I visited, in fact I was told some members of the public even do house clearing, following a death, which the charity accepts, so this has no affect on school holidays, or volunteer shortages. I got the impression, there was also no H&S issues, the Manager informed me the branch never turns donations away normally - so no issues with pricing, sorting etc.... The manager was really nice, and I am glad I met her and will donate again.
  11. Hello All, Apologize for the lengthy first thread. With the weather on the up, and a feeling of spring in the air, I decided to finally get rid of those coats, trousers, shoes etc, which were sorted last year, but I had only managed to place in bin bags and placed in the corner of one of my rooms. I counted six bags in total, and much of the clothing, was quite good. I had visited the main store of St Christopher's in the past, and decided to visit them. I drove the short distance to the store, and was lucky enough to find a 30 minute bay close by, on lordship lane. I brought my first two bags into the store, and waited patiently in the line. There appeared to be a lot going on, with two volunteers coming and disappearing in the back. After several minutes, I informed one of the volunteers, that I wanted to make a donation. I was asked what I had, and I informed the volunteer, I had male things. I was asked to place the contributions in a pile at the end of the volunteer desk, which I did. I placed them on the ground, and left without a word from the volunteer. I returned back to the store a second time, and I was told by the same volunteer "we cannot take any more of your things, perhaps you could take them to MIND on the corner" I was completely shocked and surprised. This was the first time I had donated to a charity, and did not understand why I was being turned away. I really wanted to contribute to the charity, and I had purchased a number of items in the past. I informed the volunteer, perhaps I should visit the smaller branch a few doors down, and she replied "sure". I did visit the smaller branch, and explained what had happened, and the staff were really shocked. The manager in the small store was warm, and inviting. She told me, we welcome all donations to the charity. I gave the remaining four bags to the branch and left. Any thoughts anyone??
  12. Hello all, Council Tax bills have been hitting our door mats recently for 2017 - 2018. I have notice on the bill, the following: Southwark Council Tax bill - increased by 2.0% GLA Contribution - increase of 1.5% Ring-fenced adult social care precept bill The bill says there is a increase of 4.2% Anyone know how you get an increase of 4.2% increase? Is Southwark council value for money with the residents contribution, or a wasteful council???

  14. Belated seasons Greeting Sazzie30, so have you seen any bargains in your travels lately? I see Poundland in Peckham has reduced their Christmas decorations to 50p each
  15. Large tubs of choclates down to ?3.72 in Morrisons - peckham
  16. Werll, whatever the views of the 20MPH speed limit, it is inplace, so we have to go forward.
  17. I remember reading a few weeks ago, Southwark Council did approach the police, but was informed the police do not have the man power to enforce the new speed limit. Without cameras on every street with a 20MPH speed limit, i am not sure how Soutrhwark Council can enforce the new speed limit. Southwark council are not alone, as many local authorities have adopted similar policies, including neighbouring Lambeth and Lewisham.
  18. Season greetings all, Has anyone seen any bargains lately in the area?? I managed to pick up two 7.5 KG turkeys from the sainsbury's yesterday for only ?3.25 each - Bargain I thought!! Any other bargains in the area, let us know as soon as possible
  19. Hello all, I am sure most are slowly recovering from the vast amount of food consumed over xmas, but I have a rant to share. Southwark Council, like most councils have introduced 20MPH speed limits on most of their high streets and main roads.Whenever i drive on a 20MP road, I always observe the speed limit, however, I have noticed on several occasions, Arriva buses driving past ED train station have been impatient by flashing their lights at me from behind. Are buses not expected to follow the same speed limit in place? If I am flashed again for driving 20 in a 20mph road, should I pull over, cronfront the driver, report????? any help welcome
  20. You can still recycle carrier bags and batteries, these recycling facilities are opposite the car park exit, where the passport photo machine is
  21. As the water charges are included in the weekly rent bill, this will have an affect of the weekly rent bill, however as the council normally increases rent bills in the new financial year, tenants might not see much of a difference
  22. I was nearlymowed down by a boi racer while crosing the road close to the charity shop. i was actually half way crossing, whe a driver almost hit me. he asked me to look where i was going (even though i was already crossing), he became abusive and got out of his car. Another passenger got out of the car, and "encouraged" the drover back to the car.Hot hed driving around
  23. Actually it was hearsay from builders working at the site. In regards to the distance from the new location and the new M&S on Lordship lane, streetmap estimates at 0.3 of a mile between the two. Hate to disappoint, but Iceland has def left ED for the moment!!
  24. Southwark Housing & modernization Department has written to tenants informing them, Thames Water has provided written notice to Southwark Council, ending their relationship to collect water charges on their behalf from Southwark Council tenants. The arrangement wil end in April 2017, leading to Thames water billing tenants directly.
