Any top tips for teaching baby to get down the stairs?
jrthomas_uk replied to Keef's topic in The Family Room Discussion
Hi Keef, With our little one I put him into the position where he was kneeling on the stairs backwards and moved his legs/knees down the stairs saying "down, down, down" so he was forced into coming down the stairs in the right way. It took a while but eventually he started doing the motions himself and whenever we said the words "down, down, down" he would automatically start to crawl down backwards. This was really helpful as he always first tried to go head first. This all worked a treat until he started walking when he then wanted to walk down... He now slides down feet first, on his tummy like a speed demon :-) We also have gates as I like to be around whenever he heads down the stairs just in case... -
antinatal courses - advice needed
jrthomas_uk replied to goldilocks's topic in The Family Room Discussion
We did the East Dulwich two day intensive course as the regular weeknight course had been fully booked for months and months. I was a bit worried that two days (2 consecutive Wednesdays) would not be enough time to bond with fellow parents-to-be but infact the group has become the best of friends, including the husbands, and we've all just been on holiday together. Tess was the lady who ran the course. I would definitely call the NCT and book on now and the spaces go very early. Good luck. -
Hi Renren, I had my first baby with Brierley last year and had absolutely nothing to do with my GP, I had all my midwifery appointments at Dulwich Hospital and in the last month the midwives came to my home. They do get booked up very quickley as only take on 18 ladies per month so I would call asap.

Thanks so much for all your posts, I really appreciate it. I've been reading some reviews on the Ergo and wondered how supportive it is for a toddler when asleep? All the pics I can find on the internet don't seem to show very good head support. Thx.

Just wondered if anyone had any experience with child Back Carriers. I have been looking at the Bush Baby Premier and Elite and can see lots of reviews to the effect that they are both pretty good but wondered if any forumites had any personal experience of either of these carriers. Thanks (tu)

My 16 month son is also at Mother Goose Nursery at Greendale and he absolutely loves it. The staff are great and really take an interest in the kids. Today when I collected him I was early so stood watching him play through the window, he was running around, playing with the other kids and screaming with laughter (the kiddies were crawling through a big pop-up tube). I wouldn't hesitate to recommend this nursery.

Childcare Vouchers, interesting discovery
jrthomas_uk replied to busymum's topic in The Family Room Discussion
Quote from www.personneltoday.com Childcare vouchers and salary sacrifice during maternity leave: The true cost of childcare vouchers "They want to know the financial risks," says Morris. "We tell them that once a new mother stops receiving maternity pay - and is still on maternity leave - the employer will have to pay the full cost of the voucher. Only now are some employers cottoning on to the full costs of offering childcare vouchers." So it seems the Employer is only liable for the cost of the vouchers once maternity pay ceases. -
Actually I love GF, her routine really helped with my son as I had no idea what to do with him and no idea when and how much sleep he needed. As soon as we started with the GF routine life got A LOT BETTER and my son started sleeping and napping and was generally a lot happier. I'm always amazed that she gets so much stick when the routine obviously works. My son wasn't sleeping through by 12 weeksn and I didn't expect him to but all our lives were greatly enhanced by following this routine. In fact, if anyone has the GF book for toddlers then I'd like to buy. PLease PM if you do. Cheers, (tu)

Last night after arriving home and rummaging in my bag I discovered I had left my house keys at work. While desperately searching for said keys I placed my purse on my wheelie bin. Unfortunately I walked away and left my purse on the bin and when I returned it was gone. This post is to ask whoever took my purse to please return it. Its of no use to anyone as I have cancelled the cards. It is a bright, pink purse and is full of receipts, junk etc. If it has been thrown into anyone's garden I would really appreciate it if you would PM. Many thanks (tu)

I too have had a great experience at GM's. My 14 month old was given a toy to play with while the young lady cutting his hair was quick and friendly while chatting to my son to keep his attention. Your experience sounds outrageous and I wouldn't even have considered paying for an unfinished haircut, especially when spoken to in the manor you were.

Can you reccomend a great nursey in SE22 ?
jrthomas_uk replied to sheradene's topic in The Family Room Discussion
Just to second that my 14 month son is at Mother Goose on Greendale and loves it. I was initially wary of him going to nursery but he runs off as soon as my husband drops him off without a backward glance for poor Daddy! They take babies from 3 months. The Manager is Remi who is lovely, tel 0207 738 7700. -
I just wanted to add that my method of shifting the baby weight was David Lloyd gym at Beckenham. I piled on 6 stone with my cherub and while I was quite fit before getting pregnant I stopped all exercise while carrying bubba as previously had a miscarriage. David Lloyd has an onsite creche which is great, the staff are friendly and really look after the kids/babies well. I started there in February at 12st 12 and by July was back down to 10 st. I attended 4 exercise classes each week, I found if I did any 'exercise' with my Mum friends I didn't really focus and we also ended up having coffee and cake too ;-) Hope this helps.

I would just like to comment that nothing is worse than being underground on the tube in the height of summer when the temperature hits 40+ degrees and you can't move!!!!! That said, the early morning trains are very crowded and if they could run every 10 minutes (as the late afternoon rush hour trains back to East Dulwich do) that might alleviate the problem? Barry - many thanks for joining the forum. Any plans for changes to the morning schedules? Kind regards, James

I get annoyed with myself for reading drivel like this. What's wrong with me!? Honestly, 3 pages devoted to a woman changing a nappy in a bar - did you think about calling the police? I thought words like "vile", "horrific", "abhorent" were reserved for things like, I dunno, genocide maybe? Get a life people.

Has the housing market in ED reached its bottom yet?
jrthomas_uk replied to ClareC's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
F*ck me people are rude to each other on this forum. As it happens, I'm not too keen on Estate Agents either but I know several people buying in ED at the moment for the exact reasons stated by local estate agent. No one can agree over the housing market so its a rather pointless exercise slating other people's opinions. Anyway maybe, for those with the balls, they will do well from taking advantage of the turbulent market conditions. -
BTW, what does it mean when you just post a fullstop ? I've seen it loads on EDF. Can't be just umming and erring is it?

HeidiHi Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > So if it was a girl or a woman who was a repeated > shoplifter, would it be ok to hit her also? after > all, a shoplifter is a shoplifter! Yes Yes! Now we're talking!!!! Obviously I agree. Violence for violence's sake is not acceptable but I'm sure there's more to this story than meets the eye and I'd love to know what it is. Odds on, it's a repeat offender. Maybe it wasn't even shoplifting. Maybe he was upto no good with the manager's wife. Who knows! Anyway, I'm not going to lose any sleep over a criminal getting a bit of a beating. Makes a pleasant change from an innoncent bystander getting stabbed/shot/mugged which is what we usually read about on this forum.

Shoplifting is pretty despicable and probably deserving of a good kicking. All the shoplifters I've seen apprehended around here (sadly quite a few) are usually just being restrained until the police arrive. Therefore I'd summise there are a few facts we don't know about this case. I can't imagine a granny, child or menstrual woman would be taken into the back for a kicking because of something called discretion. Like someone said, he's probably a repeat offender who gets reprimanded with a gentle ticking off by some namby-pamby liberal (like the scumbag who knocked my mates front tooth out in The Vale), only to head off the next day and do it all over again. As for burglars, I'd like to bring back hanging for those b******s. Especially the one's who feel the need to urinate in your house and liberate women's underwear. And the Police! All the DNA evidence and they're just not interested. I have zero tolerance or sympathy for criminals regardless of their circumstances. There is always another way. I think I need to get out of London.

Been with Tiscali for 3 years and the connection hasn't dropped once in that time (I'm on Heber Road). Can't complain about them really. Perhaps someone doing the gasworks has cut the wrong cable! Have just cancelled Tiscali for Sky though as the rolled up packages seem better value. Anyone any experience of Sky Broadband?

I can't believe: a) only 3750 ish people voted (if I've done the maths right) - was there a turnout figure anywhere? That seems very low to me. b) so many people still vote labour :)
