  1. Or etsy or smaller suppliers. I'd do that as otherwise youll spend more on shipping then the contents. Also, I wouldn't be wary of the package being stolen, but would be worried about it being stopped by customs. I've had to shell out over ?50 as my aunt in the US sent me some blocks my grandfather made in the 70s and she had valued them as being $200 or something.
  2. I have recently contacted the scout hut on bellenden road re hire for a party and apparently they are no longer doing one off hires.
  3. Hi, Just wondering if anyone could recommend a football class for young ones during the week. I have a 2 year old and a 4 year old and think they would both love this. Monday - Wednesday, if possible. thanks!
  4. I was just logging in, as I posted a Freestyle for sale last week and am reducing the price (so sorry if this seems self interested) but the medela bottles are a standard size at the neck so you can pump into another brand bottle. Like the poster above, I sometimes pumped straight into a storage bag. I used a mothercare "pod" sterliser which worked great. But all sterilisers have different methods and some are size specific so best to look at the one you had in mind. The medela bottles are quite small though so you'd probably be okay.
  5. I started reading this thread thinking you were probably being reactionary and I was getting angry that you can't talk to strangers any more without being accused of being a pervert or con artist... UNTIL you said he OFFERED HER A RIDE IN HIS CAR?? Thank goodness she is home okay. If he is 'innocent', shame on him. He should certainly know better than to offer young girls rides in cars. I'd report this as well. The police can decide what to do with it. And I cetainly hope your friend is giving a refresher course to her daugher on stranger danger.
  6. I've only caught a few of the episodes, but the main focus seems to be fruit and veg. I understand that he doesn't want to stock lots of fish or meat as the shelf life is so short, but, how do the cupboard items fit in. He's not challenging supermarkets on quality there or striking fair deals with Heinz or whomever so how does that fit into the Mission? Is it even necessary to stock these things or are they good profit makers?
  7. Maria, have you heard of or been in touch with the people at Green Ventures in Camberwell? Not sure if it is still running but they may be able to help you with your new scheme.
  8. Tara, I was thinking the same thing. My problem with the local shops is that if you can't do your shopping by 5 then you often can't use the independents. I had considered something like you said, or even if there was a pick up point where you collected your goods in the evening or on the weekend. (I know a most of them are open on Saturday, but that's a family day for us and I don't want to drag everyone around the shops.) It's true though that East Dulwich is already very well served for food outlets and I wonder if somewhere like West Dulwich where they are a bit further from any big supermarkets and only have the one butchers and a tesco local might be a better location. Or, Crystal Palace seems to have a lot of foodies but only a Sainsburys.
  9. Um, I'm from New York, and not Rochdale. The reason I brought up the Brooklyn coop is becuase the People's Supermarket is based on /inspired by that model. Sheesh. I also think comparing the Co-op to a local cooperative market is completely disingenuous. Having a points card for a supermarket with 3000 outlets is not the same as being involved in a community driven enterprise. For the record, I do have a Co-op membership and no, I still don't think it's the same thing.
  10. I only ever went to Gambados on the weekend but hated it for our young toddler. It was overrun by olderkids - little Sparks was knocked over a few times - and they play Really loud music whic i found very off putting. Maybe it's different during the week? The Spa is very nice though...
  11. I used to go to the Co-op in Brooklyn which was the inspiration behind the peoples market and it was fab. Really high quality produce at amazing prices. Would love to have something like this nearby. Sadly, I easily waste 4 hours a month on sainburys.

  13. I have the same sling and also love it. I agree with the other posters though that the material or threads might not take to the dye well, though it is 100% cotton, so it might do very well. Perhaps you could trim one end and try dyeing that first as a tester? Or, I never really used the pouch thing - thought I might with a newborn for extra support - but you could try that as your tester? Alternatively, you could try contacting customer service. I don't know if they are particularily responsive, but worth a shot. Let us know if you decide to take the plung and how it turns out. I personally really like the green but I think my husband would have liked something a bit more masculine so I'm tempted to dye it as well!
  14. Last time around Kings told me that I was too far west for the community midwives, and that they wouldn't come out to meet me. (I'm really not that far west - SW2! Kings is closest hosiptal and by far the fastest driving!) A friend near by had booked Brierly, so I wonder if these caseload teams are more flexible? In the end, Kings set me up with the Tulse Hill midwives but I as I said, I ended up being induced in hospital anyway. Anway, not sure if they are even still active as I can't find any information about them. I think I may need to try the hospital Monday and see what they say about them. Can someone let me know where Brierly and the lanes are based? And for them and Oakland, do you go to them for the antenatal checkups or do they come to you? (Either is fine for me, as long as I can get there with DS in tow!) I imagine I will be calling around a bunch on Monday but thank you all for your head start on my research. :)
  15. I can't seem to find a list anywhere on King's website so I'm hoping someone here can help me out. I had my son at Kings 15 months ago. I'm in the *very* early stages of my second pregnancy and I'd really like a home birth this time around, but not sure how to go about it. I'm in the Kings catchment and would like to have them as my base hospital but what are my options for midwife teams. I've heard of Brierly, Oakwood and The Lanes. Southwark East and West teams, but can't find an exhaustive list even just contact details for any of them. I'm in the very western edge of the kch catchment (sorry, not at all East Dulwich but you all seem to know your hb stuff!) and am actually in Lambeth rather than Southwark, so not sure which of the groups are based on this side and will take me on. Any recommendations (or advice on what to avoid) would be greatly apprappreciated. Also, as I said, it is very early stages. Is it ever too soon to sign up? I don't want to wait and miss out as many places seem to fill up fast
  16. I've ordered nappies from babipur.oo.uk a couple of times. They are lovely people and helped me out when I had a few problems. Fav brands are bumgenius (and their new Flip) and I do love the itti bitti d'lish but they aren't the best fit on my son as he has chunky thighs and great a big tum-drum too! I find the all-in-2s or pockets the best for ease and fast drying - never did get on with the inner plus wrap systems but I think you really can get used to anything. I haven't found washing to be a problem really. A bit nicer in the summer when we can line dry (and I was surprised at how the sun really does bleach out stains!) but still not that bad in the winter.
