What's a good age to start piano lessosn?
suniil replied to Queline's topic in The Family Room Discussion
Thank you Lucy, she got into both Chethams & Purcell but we are going to accept Purcell school for young musicians. I'm sure you know how hard to get in with Piano / singing as first choice of instruments in early school years, where she has to compete with the far east / eastern european Child prodigies. It's just her hard work and determination coupled with best mentoring. lucyA1308 Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > as a freelance musician and music teacher, I am > also very impressed by Suniil's daughter. Yes, she is local but takes students who are seriously committed and Grade 6 level above. She is also a touring pianist, who debuts her US tours with Carnegie hall performance next month. It depends how much success you want! At least in my daughter's case, that's way she got into country's one of the finest Specialist Music School. She starts there in September (to year 7), in school they will have to do more than 5 hours of supervised instrumental practice (including after school practice hours). Also, it is down to the instrument choice. She is in similar-ish level in singing, but only spends time during singing lessons & Choir. -

6 is a good age to start but not later than 8 years. Also the progress they make is all down to how good the teacher is and what level of support parents provide at home. If your child is seriously interested in music / piano, then a practice of 45 minutes per day is minimum to start with and should go upto 2-3 hours before they hit secondary school!! Daughter was a late starter, at 8 years and now at 10+ she is close to grade 8 standard. Practices around 3 hours every day and has a wonderful teacher. -
I've visited various schools for my 10 year old daughter. 1 hour is not good enough to judge, but Prendergast is the one I'm most impressed with. Music facilities are not close to Haberdashers but still a good school.

Secondary School applications for 2012
suniil replied to Renata Hamvas's topic in The Family Room Discussion
Thank you westof / brezzo for the help. I'll look into that as well. Tomorrow I'm visiting Haberdasher's for open day. I understand it is one of the most oversubscribed schools but optimistic that daughter can pass the audition / aptitude tests. -

Thank you Reneta for posting the necessary info. My daughter is in year 6 and the research started a while ago. Sadly no schools with music specialisation in southwark, so we just have 2 schools in lewisham and 1 in westminister. Other option is 4 schools that support MDS. I hope something will workout in her way, will keep you all posted with updates in the thread -

We are also seriously considering this as an option for our daughter, if she doesn't get into a (music) school of her choice -
Minimum age for Gym is 13/14 as far as I know. Other option is to join in Gymnastics club, there are many around ED / Peckham area.

Car break ins - Nutbrook St/ Fenwick Rd
suniil replied to HousePlease's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Had a break-in yesterday via my rear vent. Complete mess inside the car, as it looks like they were looking for something specific. Had some coins, couple of phone holders, iPod etc. Nothing has stolen from the car, but need to replace the Glass. AutoGlass quoted ?230, which is equivalent to compulsory excess of insurance. Need to find something cheaper, any tips other than ebay? Thanks -

SilverFox: Any news on St.Anthony's today? thanks -
I'd say yes. The recent news and postings across the forums underlines that Apple admits the problem http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/technology/10490572.stm Apple hiring antenna engineers http://www.engadget.com/2010/06/30/apple-hiring-iphone-antenna-engineers-for-some-reason/ mazza7103 Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > very glad i didnt get the upgrade. i love my 3gs > anyhoo

Telephone/broadband and maybe TV packages - advice please
suniil replied to tllm2's topic in The Lounge
O2-BE are best IMHO, most of the time they have ?100 cashback (via cashback websites) + 3 months service free of cost which is hard to beat. They can take over the line rental also from BT (saves few ?), but I suggest to stay with BT for your line rental. SKY don't do SKy or SKY+ boxes anymore, the basic box itself is SKY HD and many offers are floating around -
