Yes, they have already been out twice, and blamed a cable they claim wasn't put in by BT. Openreach engineer was incredibly rude. I had to ask him to stop rolling his eyes whenever I answered a question.

I do, and speed is fine. It's just that frequently the connection to the exchange drops completely and comes back 10 minutes later.

Anyone else getting dropped connections on their broadband in the last week? BT engineer has been called out twice, and just blames a cable 'not put in by BT', which I am skeptical about being the real problem.

Have spent most of the day trying (and failing) to get a parking permit from Southwark's utterly broken online system. Does anyone at Southwark Council seriously expect people to successfully navigate this system? I just spent several hours with my elderly neighbour trying to help her get one, and she is left with a disabled bank card and no closer to getting one. For example: - my neighbour phoned the council number, and she was told that she had a 'duplicate account'. Why they couldn't take her money over the phone I've no idea - the site asks for your mobile number. It doesn't accept 'normal' numbers (0xxx...), just numbers beginning with (44xxx...). This is mentioned in an unexpected part of the page. Why it can't assume that 0 = 44 I can't fathom. This meant that we went round a 'you already have an account with that number (0793...)', "you don't have an account with that mobile number (0793...)" merry-go-round. - any attempt to register a card is rejected, and the bank blocks your card (tried with three different cards). This prevents any attempt to create an account (a required pre-req) - the site requires that you loosen your browser's permissions to dangerous levels. the instructions for this are 1) hidden at the bottom of the page. 2) wrong. 3) incomprehensible to all but IT professionals in any case (like me) I won't list all the problems, but these alone are enough to frustrate most users for many hours. It's almost criminal of the council to exact fines when it's virtually impossible to give them your money.

Thanks for the replies. Yes, I should have clarified I know there's no catchment - hence the question about how far is "safe". I understand from some research that the catchment has shrunk in the last few years, and that the rules governing safe walking routes has changed this year specifically, reducing the catchment size further. This process is very opaque, it's rather frustrating. We rent within catchment, but can't afford to buy on the road we live on! Hey ho.

Our results are not on eAdmissions (from previous applications), but I assume that's because the Hamlet only accepts paper applications?

Does anyone know the latest on The Charter School catchments this year? Any horror stories about people nearby not getting in? We're thinking abuout buying a small place nearer Loughbourough Junction and wondered where the cut off point was this year. Thanks!

It's a very good nursery, but we've had problems with our son being backward with potty training and the nursery were demanding we see psychologists in etc.. We refused, and he now has problems only at nursery (everywhere else he goes happily). We think the pressure they put on him made things worse. They also badger us repeatedly to go to the doctor's for minor ailments like rashes etc.. It feels like a public sector conspiracy to keep everyone busy to be honest. They also have a ludicrous "report" they give us, where he has "targets" for the next term, and they point out that he's "scared to go high up on the climbing frame" among many other trivial and insignificant things. Perhaps this is how the world works now, but it seems like madness to me. He's 3! Facilities are excellent though, and the teachers seem good.

Never understood the whole "surprise" thing. As if labour and birth were something dull that needed to be livened up with a raffle. I agree with the poster above that it makes it easier for the father to bond.
