I used to go to the Franklin's restaurant in the Walworth road Antiques store for Sunday lunch after a big Saturday night in the early 90s. Was such a fantastic place, massive portions and cheap with the added bonus of people browsing for antiques around your table while you ate.
Probably good quality bacon and decent bread, with real butter and some extras. Sounds a fair price. If you don't think it's a fair price you can go to one of the many caffs and have a slice of mass-produced bacon between some crappy sliced white with a smear of marg for ?3.50. If I liked bacon sandwiches I know which one I'd go for if I wasn't making my own.
I think you'll find high streets everywhere have lost the 'useful' shops; butchers, bakers, greengrocers etc. hark back to a different time when there were no supermarkets. It's nothing to do with wealth and everything to do with shopping habits.
Proper pizzas aren't that unhealthy at all. Yes they have cheese but it's no more unhealthy than a cheese and tomato sandwich. I make them myself once or twice a month. 500 degrees is the one in Herne Hill isn't it? It's not exactly a multi-national chain, they have 3 outlets all fairly local to this area. Not exactly Pizza Express. I hear the pizzas are very nice. Good luck to them. Please stop making everything into a class war.
I had a water meter installed a few years ago at my request. Bills went from ?60 per month to ?20 per month. Family of four, washing machine, dishwasher. It makes you more aware of your water usage and wastage (part of the idea obviously). Mine was installed in the kitchen under the sink with zero inconvenience or cost. Everyone should have them.
The idea that if you have a garden you have plenty of money is flawed. Plenty of council properties have gardens (not that being a council tenant precludes you from having plenty of money)and I'm sure many elderly residents that may own their properties with gardens live on a small pension. So that argument doesn't really wash. Anyway as someone pointed out earlier, in the grand scheme of things it's not a huge amount of money for a useful service. I'm going to see how I get on using my compost bins (like I did before the garden collection service was introduced) for a while and if I decide I need the collections will sign up later on, maybe asking neighbours if they want to share.
I saw my first green woodpecker recently down Greendale. It was plotted on the ground by the poplar trees in JAGS field and I thought at first it was injured because it was just sitting there. It was fine though as it flapped off after a while. Probably cheesed off with me staring at it ;-)
Lots of carpet cleaners online. Google Oriental rug cleaning, They collect the rug. clean/repair and deliver it back. I used a company a couple of years ago based in Rotherhithe I think but can't remember the name. It's not cheap and unless the rug is particularly valuable it's probably not worth doing sadly. You can buy pretty good second-hand oriental carpets at auction houses. Or you could hire a carpet cleaning machine.
they may have originally started out as pets but I'm sure they're happier living in the wild. There are terrapins/turtles in the pond on Dulwich Common too, been there for years. Loads of turtles live in the lake in Central Park NYC
I've been seeing Madelena [sp] since Shane left - also suddenly and with no warning - several years ago. She has left the practice now. Apparently the hygienist I see is still there.
It's just boring Sue, been gone over many times before on many threads. And you're right I don't need to read it but that's why I hardly engage with this forum anymore. I occasionally pop in to see whats happening and get some info on my area and behold, it's this...
Can we close this thread? It's just turned into the usual, predictable, boring, uninformed, scare-mongering, small-minded anti-cyclist/pro-cyclist debate.
