Hang on a minute, I may be coming in late - not been around much lately but personally I object to the term 'vegetarian food'. It's all just food - some of it with meat and some of it without. Italian cooking particularly has lots of fantastic dishes that contain just vegetables and pulses. I understand Huge's point re. the definition of gastronomy but hasn't the term been mutated to mean lovely, delicious food - which in my opinion can be done without the addition of meat.

Great, thanks all. Like the sound of the Gothic quarter and the food market - sadly will be dragging a couple of kids too so won't be able to wander too much. Tour bus sounds a good option.
-
Obviously I could look online or even buy a guide book, but personal recommendations are nicer.
-
Any suggestions? What must I do? (must involve food at some point)

serving platters are ok as per previous square discussion, as long as you don't have more than say, 2.

Sounds like he has major control issues and should probably get some therapy

Isn't that a rather sexist view? She - an unattached, adult able to make her own choices. He - a married man. Unfortunately he didn't tell her he was married until the morning, in typical twat fashion. I guess you just see him as a 'bit of a lad' though eh? Double standards.

What's your thinking on oval?

Surely nobody's going to admit to it

Mr Asset regularly has his Swiss Army knife in his pocket (unless he's just pleased to see me all the time) and I bought master Asset (13) an Opinel knife from France recently. We are well tooled up here. I think the above case is the nanny state getting a little carried away and Marmora Man you'd be fine, but then technically it is an offence so who knows?

You all felt a little differently about the owner of the Concrete House - what if that had been squatted and lovingly restored?
-
Such a lot of generalising. Huge, You surprise me with your comment above - which I'm hoping you meant tongue in cheek - regarding the "assumption that squatters are reasonable". I moved to London in the early 80s and ended up squatting on the Pullens Estate in E&C. 50% of the flats were empty and the whole estate was in a terrible state of neglect by Southwark council which wanted to knock the buildings down. The residents invited squatters onto the estate and to cut a long story short the Pullens Estate, which is a rare example of Victorian artisan dwellings, is now a conservation area with extremely desirable properties. The original squatters were eventually given tenancies on the flats by the council and most are still social housing. None of this would have happended and the estate would have been razed were it not for the care and tenacity of the original residents, squatters and tenants. Pullens

I thought that would get everyone going lol. I don't think trains are more hygenic, it's just an amusing name for buses ok with an element of truth attached. It's not that 'everyone on them is plague ridden' but a high turnover of passengers coughing and spluttering in an enclosed space and touching the grab rails the chance of germs being spread is fairly high. I use buses fairly regularly as a matter of fact but why sit on a bus for over an hour when you can do the journey by train in under an hour?
-
"Coming home I get on the 176 on Charing Cross Road at about 17:00 and get home at about 18:15." I'd much rather jump on a train at Charing Cross and be home by 17:45 than sit on the bus (plague ships).

but the window's open bob so that's okay isn't it?

I often walk down Court Lane, what a bunch of moaning minnies you lot are. -
Hillsboro Road is NOT a 1 way street
Asset replied to knackered cow's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Can I just point out that Knackered Cow was doing the school run - in her CAR - thus compounding the problem surely. -

Asset replied to knackered cow's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Of course it is. Ideally, the children wouldn't be driven to school at all. There isn't anywhere to park though around these streets really, 200 yds (how quaint) away is full of cars too. -

I live on Hillsboro and it most definitely is not a storm in a teaup. Causes much amusement watching the manoeuvres at times unless I'm trying to get in or out of the street myself of course and then it's not funny. I had a letter through the door several years ago regarding this voluntary one way system but as I never see any evidence of it I assumed they'd given up. Would be nice if we knew which way the direction was supposed to be. I was told that Alleyn's have been lobbying the council for some time to get it officially one-way - nice of them to consult the residents. There has been a few metres of double yellow lines painted recently at the ED Grove entrance to the road - obviously these are completely ignored when kids are being dropped off but things move a bit more smoothly as cars can't actually park there all day. -
sorry - I thought this was in the lounge - can one of the all powerful move it please?

Got the annual panto experience on Saturday and we usually go to Pizza Express (after an horrendous experience in an unknown Italian one year!). This year PE is booked up as I've left it too late and I wondered if anyone has any experience of eateries on Wimbledon Broadway. I've looked online and there is a huge list of available places - I'm leaning towards the Thai - but if anyone has any actual experience of somewhere, good value, decent food can you let me know. Thanks

Motorcycles allowed in Bus Lanes - an early report
Asset replied to PeckhamRose's topic in The Lounge
You say 'thanks for that' in a slightly sarcy tone as my view doesn't agree with yours. I could be wrong. The evidence apparently shows motorcylsits are safer in bus lane - can you point us to this evidence?, the links are all about the perceived risk to cyclists. How is the information collated and compared really with regard to increased safety? I doubt that in the long run it makes that much difference. Motorcyclists are most at risk from cars turning into traffic from side roads as you point out, being in a bus lane aint gonna help there IMO and the evidence seems to point to this being the case. Motorcyclists travel at the same speed (supposedly 30mph) as the rest of the traffic - why do they need the bus lanes? The argument is that they shouldn't be in a queue of traffic if it is slow moving - well hell, why should the cars? Frequently as a pedal cyclist I have been shaken by motorbikes passing me very close at speed after moving out of slow traffic and into the bus lane. Don't think I am biased against motorbikes particularly as Mr Asset and I used to have one and we travelled many miles on it. -
Crumpets need to be toasted on both sides. The bottom should be pretty well toasted and the top not so. Slathered in butter.

I don't think motorcyclists should be allowed to use bus lanes.
