  1. Looks like Network Rail are closing the line north and south of East Dulwich from Saturday 26 October to Friday 1 November 2024 inclusive to upgrade track and signalling. They've chosen half-term week but I imagine this is going to still have a major impact. https://www.southernrailway.com/service-updates/service-updates/south-london-closure London Overground route between Surrey Quays and Clapham Junction also impacted.

  2. TBH, I kind of doubt that you'll find anything much less than 60cm wide as that's the UK standard to allow them to fit in the width of a normal single kitchen cabinet. The depths do vary though and there is a depth filter on the AO.com website.
  3. I'd like to recommend Jordan from Gutter Maintenance Tech who we used recently to replace our tired and rotting soffits and facia board and guttering. They use their own scaffold tower so it works out cheaper than other contractors but the work itself is of an excellent standard. They said they would take two days and they stuck to this in spite of horrendous weather conditions. Lovely people - we'd use them again with no reservations. https://www.gmtltd.org/
  4. I'd also highly recommend David Rowden from Flujo. This is the second time I've used his services and this time it was upgrading some radiators. Really pleasant to have around. Very neat and tidy. Great communicator. Fair pricing. Would use again for any heating or plumbing related work.
  5. I like to add to the above recommendations for Dave. He's recently decorated two bedrooms and our kitchen/dining area and repaired and repainted some ceilings which were in a poor state. A great guy to have around. Really hard working, knows his stuff and left the house clean and tidy. Even minimised our parking permit costs by using his bike. How many other decorators would leave you the leftover paint all marked up ? Would wholeheartedly 100% recommend.
  6. What kind of fuel do they burn ? Does it emit Particulate Matter ?
  7. Has the world gone mad, two houses on Shawbury Road - very nice houses admittedly but both over £2.2m ! https://www.rightmove.co.uk/properties/149837921?utm_campaign=property-details&utm_content=buying&utm_medium=sharing&utm_source=copytoclipboard#/&channel=RES_BUY https://www.rightmove.co.uk/properties/151957205?utm_campaign=property-details&utm_content=buying&utm_medium=sharing&utm_source=copytoclipboard#/&channel=RES_BUY
  8. Local Fish and Chip shop legend. Ken. (from @thankcodforkens Instagram) "The Legend, the Original Ken, My Dad tragically passed away on Saturday 13th of July, We are devastated beyond words, he was the kindest caring loving gentleman one could ask for and an amazing Dad & best friend, he opened Ken’s fish bar in 1984 & devoted all this time and energy there up until his last breath he was still in his favourite place. known my many as “father Ken” due to his many years of service in his adopted community of Dulwich which he loved. I will do my best to keep his Legacy as great as he created it but also know how difficult my challenges are ahead of me with out having my best friend, my teacher, my dad by my side. He will be missed by many 💔💔 Love you dad, rest in peace 💔💔"
  9. Slightly pedantic I know but I think The Victory was an off-license or beer shop not officially a "pub", similar to the Fdenburg on Spurling Road. Interesting talk by the Dulwich Society on the Pubs of East Dulwich on YouTube here:
  10. Only place I could find selling broad beans recently. In terms of produce, I've always been very happy with the quality and accept that it's more expensive than supermarkets but when I can afford it, I am happy about that.
  11. Sorry to hear this. You may want to amend the title as Thursday was the 27th not the 29th. Just trying to avoid confusion.
  12. What are hobby cyclists (your words) supposed to wear ? This ? I've really never understood the joy people get from sneering at cyclists wearing lycra. You wouldn't say the same about someone wearing cricket whites, a football shirt or track spikes. Of the 26 you have no idea where the fault lies. You also don't know if any were caused by cycling on pavements.
  13. We used Rye Cars recently to get to Heathrow early on a Sunday. Turned up on time and got us there without any fuss. Cost £67 from East Dulwich. We probably would have gone via public transport but due to the time we travelled it was too early for trains.
  14. Don't assume or start saying that the cyclists (or any other modes of transport) were at fault. The text says that involvement does not imply fault.
  15. This is interesting. It's a list of all reported incidents from minor or fatal and on page 7 includes the modes of transport of the person causing the accident and the person (or persons) to whom the accident happened. Microsoft Power BI So for example, in Southwark in 2023, there were 191 reported casualties to pedestrians of which 26 we caused by pedal cycles. Of the 26, 14 were serious and 12 were slight (you get this using the filters on the black buttons). Then there were 348 reported casualties to cyclists, 281 slight, 66 serious and 1 fatal. Lots to play with.
  16. Proportionate to the number of cyclists I'd say it's increased slightly over the years. 20 years ago (may even 10-12) you didn't have Lime bikes or food delivery by electric bikes both of which involve a time vs money element which can lead to poor behaviour which is then followed by cyclists with only pedal power. But they aren't they only reason, in general I think there is just a sad lack of respect for the rule of law which is rarely policed.
  17. Love the way you start with "some" and finish with "majority". Perhaps you could add another paragraph and say "all". As a regular cyclist I accept there are bad cyclists but I find that this kind of narrative is typical of the polarised rhetoric in so many topics these days.
  18. Both Dulwich Hill and Goose Green wards are in the new constituency.
  19. Cheers - (note to self - must try harder) An independent agency determines the distance using a computerised Geographical Information System (GIS). This system measures the distance from each applicant’s home to the designated main entrance of the school (where the main drive pedestrian entrance joins Red Post Hill opposite Ardbeg Road) by the shortest straight-line distance in metres. A centroid (centre point), derived by Ordnance Survey (OS), determines the start point of the home address. If a child lives in a block of flats where a communal entrance is used, the centroid for the block and not the individual flat is used for calculation purposes. When dealing with multiple applications from a block of flats to the school, lower door numbers will take priority.
  20. Is anyone able to tell me if the distance is measured as a straight line (i.e. aka as the crow flies) or by safest route ?
  21. Possibility ? Function room private hire - The Lordship Pub
  22. Not ED by but https://goodasgoldldn.com/pages/menu in Brockley does the gluten free stuff. Highly recommended, the food is great.
  23. A case of real-life imitating art perhaps: https://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/m000v8wp
  24. Went past Gibbs & Dandy Builders Merchants on Grove Vale last night and it looked closed and empty. Prime location for residential perhaps ? ETA - Gibbs & Dandy is part of Jewsons so perhaps with the one on Railway Rise they've closed this one, even though the Jewsons site is the subject of a planning development.
  25. ED to Peckham Rye, Peckham Rye to Catford. 15 minutes would be pushing it though.
