Schools are probably the biggest attraction of East Dulwich - outstanding state schools and prestigious private schools.

The reality is that private education also helps reduce the burden on state schools. I think it's a bit unfair that families paying for private schools should be penalised as they already are paying towards state education via their taxes. Whats the government is doing with vat increase is to make private education even more elitist. And for people who call for a ban private of education, using the same logic we should also ban private healthcare.

I’m convinced that East Dulwich is one of London’s best areas...nice parks, top-notch schools, and absence of high-rise buildings...etc.. The only downside is a few grumpy people who criticise newcomers and complain about gentrification - while enjoying its perks.

I guess that's the plan. Families who can't afford anymore will move their children to state schools. Hopefully, the government will provide additional spaces and recruit more teachers to meet the increased demand.

The VAT increase will only make private education more exclusive - many dual-income families who prioritise their children's education over material possessions will either struggle or to move them to state schools thus taking some school places. What a poor decision by this government.

I wouldn't recommend Forest Hill if you have a child in one of the Dulwich private schools and you intend to cycle. ..that hill is very steep. In my opinion the ideal locations would be around Court Lane/near library - I used to cycle across Dulwich Park with my little one to go to one of these schools - when I used to live there. Houses might be on the smaller side. around North Dulwich/Herne Hill great transport link to the City and you are also close to Brockwell Park or West Dulwich (not the most exciting area but very quiet and very convenient for DP, pre Prep and DC.) Nice houses as well.

Exactly - the winning combination of living in boring East Dulwich and being at a walking distance from the Peckham Rye lane area. I will certainly try these new places.

Selective licensing has been extended in Southwark ( it already exists in most of East Dulwich) From 1 November 2023, you will need to apply for a licence if you let your property privately, it is not an HMO and it is in one of the following wards: North Walworth Nunhead & Queens Road Old Kent Road Peckham Camberwell Green Chaucer Dulwich Hill Dulwich Wood London Bridge & West Bermondsey Peckham Rye Rotherhithe Rye Lane South Bermondsey Surrey Docks Great timing for landlords! 😁

Not much to add from what has been mentioned but The Blue Brick café would make a nice picture. Talking about blue, a collection of the blue plaques in ED : Enid Blyton, CS Forester, Boris Karloff, Bon Scott from AC/DC..
