  1. A proper castle? We got one when eldest was 3 and he played with it for years & now his brother who is 5 plays with it so its been good & I can chuck all the knights & battle figures in there so it's kind of like a battle storage box too! The hot wheels loop the loop is good too if u have lots of matchbox type cars & the other thing we have that they have both played with is a multi layer garage.
  2. We just got a citreon c4 grand Picasso with 3 seats in back & huge boot with 2 pull down seats. Got it second hand for ?8,000 & it's 2 years old with 19,000 miles on it. Really happy with it so far. We needed to change as had 3rd baby & our ancient corolla couldn't fit 3 seats in the back. We went for the diesel automatic.
  3. Hi there - I had this too, my 3rd baby is 7 months & I got really bad aches in hips and knees from about one month after the birth - I did a couple of osteopath visits to the vale practise and some hip opener yoga stretches that they gave me to do & it really helped. I breastfed until last week & the pains did stop before I stopped breastfeeding so I hope the same happens to you. I just stopped b feeding as baby taking solids & bottles now & I thought that I might be able to survey the damage & take stock of all the aches & pains once I'm not hunched over feeding all the time! Good luck & hope it improves.
  4. Yes there are lots of hidden extras, uniforms have to be bought from special shops not Sainsburys! Sports stuff the same, longer holidays, school trips, equipment, a friend whose child recently started at private school (age 7 tho) has been shelling out hundreds of pounds on various sports wear & uniforms. It all depends on your circumstances & also where you live - my personal opinion is that the state primary school standard in the surrounding areas is so good that I wouldn't see the need (even if I could afford it which I couldn't) to privately educate at primary level.
  5. Hi all, this is a long shot - but does anyone have a stack of those party cardboard lunch boxes left over that I could buy or alternatively paper bags that could be used as an equivalent? I need 35 for a children's party on Sunday for my son. I ordered them online a week ago & have just had an email saying they will arrive on Tuesday - the party is Sunday! They just need to be big enough to put a small carton of juice in, sandwich & piece fruit, biscuit.
  6. I met the guy who was making one outside the library yesterday - it's a really interesting project - part of dulwich festival and each scarecrow is based on a dulwich historical person, Edward Alleyn, Enid Blyton, even a hermit who used to live in Dulwich woods! They are made from living willow so will grow one day - apparently this Saturday all the scarecrows will be gathered at the library to be viewed all together before their final planting. It's a lovely project for the community and schools involved - though sadly the guy said one has already been vandalised and one stolen which is crazy and will ruin enjoyment for local residents who want to look and appreciate them!
  7. That's crazy - it's a really busy post office serving the community.
  8. Have u tries the alpro soya yoghurts with added calcium? Also rice dream with added calcium is naturally sweet so if she can have that on cereal & as a drink that might be better than the nesquick. My eldest son had a dairy/egg allergy from birth but fortunately he outgrew it around 3 which sometimes happens. Up til then I used to give him a combo of all the following to get the calcium up. Rice dream Alpro yoghurt Mashed sardines with the bones in on toast Broccoli Tahini/hummus Lucy burney'a optimum health for kids book has all the calcium substitute foods in and I found It really helpful. Also the two white spots could be unrelated to calcium? My kids sometimes get white spots on face when its hot and they have caught the sun & I always get really paranoid thinking they have got vitiligo because I have it - but then the marks seem to go and I don't think they do have it though there is a chance they may get it one day as it can run in families but i am crossing my fingers they don't.
  9. I think 45 ft big enough for trampoline & one football goal. Our garden is 90ft but it is so narrow it doesn't look big it's like a kind of long corridor but it does mean they can have a goal at the end & will eventually get trampoline tho the balls do keep getting kicked over the neighbours fences!
  10. We don't have an en suite so not sure about that, but the boys did spend from 4.30-7 last night doing penalties in the garden as was it was the first warm light evening since we moved to this house last Autumn! Which gave me a chance to clear up tea, unpack from a week away & sort the baby out so last night it was worth it! But of course we've barely used the garden from October til now.
  11. With 2 boys age 9 & 5 I would have to say garden too - we had tiny garden and were bit of a walk from park & after 7 years in old house have moved to a house with bigger garden - tho u don't get huge in east dul on our budget it's more long & narrow! But if anything we've got smaller bedrooms than before but a bigger kitchen space with room for a sofa where we end up spending most time. In an ideal world of course it would be lovely to have bigger bedrooms & garden but I realised with 2 football crazy boys that garden space would be really good & u couldn't swing proverbial cat in old garden let alone kick ball. We now have baby 3 so I am hoping for summer of not much time in small bedrooms and lots of time in garden which should by then have a hammock in for me, football goal for them & maybe trampoline etc.
  12. We had bunk beds for our two boys from age 6 & 2 as the little one needed to move out of his cot but the room was too small for 2 beds so there wasn't much choice - in the beginning I had to keep an eye that he didn't climb up but after a while he lost interest in the top bunk and we made his lower one cosy with bedside light, toys etc. they are now 9 and nearly 5 and still in bunks and will be for a while as they need to share a room! We have the metal white ikea ones, cheap but look great.
  13. If you just want to try one I have one you could borrow as we not using it at the mo.
  14. It's not a non issue - as cars approach the lights at L lane, Barry road junction coming down with the Catholic Church & library on your left they are frequently travelling at high speed especially if the lights are green. There are lots of pedestrians and children at this point with st Anthony's and the library right there. On this stretch cars are often going at well over 40 mph. At night even more.
  15. Blimey - looks like after being ransacked by burglars! Poor u!
  16. I think it would be mean to post about them on here - I totally agree the child should say sorry as that's the only way to learn, but I don't think there will be a big cost of redecorating - when the same thing happened to us I just touched up the paint with the same colour and it was fine. It's always hard to get to exactly the bottom of which child did which bit when they are together. I now go rushing upstairs on play dates if the 'silence' goes on too long as that's when they could be up to something! In our case my child got a telling off and had to help me clean up and from what I remember lost cbeebies for a while and the other child was made to say sorry by his mum - that was enough as far as I was concerned..
  17. This exact thing happened to me couple of years ago! My middle son now 5 but 2 or 3 at the time had a friend over and friends mum & me were actually commenting on how well they had played etc etc while we had been bla ba chat chat in the kitchen, then they left & I discovered most of the walls upstairs, hall, bedrooms had been drawn on in blue biro - tried baby wipes etc to get it off - didn't work and I ended up having to just paint over the patches two or 3 times before they disappeared. Both of them blamed the other one! Then another time a different child came round and he and my son 'posted' all my magazines Into the fish tank which killed one fish and took HOURS to clean up - so I feel for you!
  18. My four year old just had it and my 5 month old baby got it exactly 2 weeks after him - but she coukdnt scratch which was a bonus and she was happy and not uncomfortable. Spots all gone within 2 weeks.
  19. Who are you writing the piece for?
  20. I think at 18 months u can go straight from b feeding to a cup, I went to a tommy tippee cup at 14 months with my first child and at 9 months with my second - I felt easier to miss out the bottle as one less thing to wean off and they seemed to adapt to the cup really well as it still has that 'sippy' feel. Also they are having solids so though milk is important its not the same as in the first 6 months. I think it's ok to go cold turkey with the night feeds tho at 18 months as too tiring! We did it with our eldest over a week by offering him water in his cup when he woke at night (he was 14 months) and after a week of protesting he got bored with the prospect of water and stopped waking and started eating more in the day so it was worth it! Good luck!
  21. I wasn't saying he was perfect by any means was just making the point that we would not have done any harm or disturbed anyone if we had sat in thr front. No need to be mean.
  22. I had the same experience ar la Chandalier - went there with my 8 year old son - for a treat & I wanted to introduce him to the concept of afternoon tea - he was smartly dressed and well behaved - we wanted to sit in 2 armchairs at the front that were vacant but were told we were only allowed in the back. I won't be going back.
  23. Iceland was here long before a lot of the newer shops, yes it's obviously on the way out but people do use it - there are many things you can buy there that are the same as sold in sainsburys but cheaper. Many people who are on lower incomes & pensioners shop there, not everyone in East Dulwich is flush & Lordship Lane hasn't always been full of chi chi shops!
  24. What age group would u say this is suitable for?
