  1. Fuschia, carpark is situated at the top of Streatham Common South, right next to the Rookery garden area and the cafe. It's free parking and I think open til about 6pm???? Went there again today and a lovely family feel to it! Plus the icecreams at the cafe were just delicious after all that paddling.
  2. Just to say that paddling pool has been filled at Streatham Common and was great there today. May be out of ED residents way but there is parking there if you drive!
  3. Ditto with nappy lady...we used Nivea Kids last summer, when away in Menorca, and our boy was 12 months. He reacted quite badly and suffered with a rash all over. Before that we had used the sun cream that they sell at Jojomamanbebe (can't remember the name as it is in his nursery bag). We also use Proderm Technology, which is a sun mousse for kids, 30SPF and he loves to apply it at 21 months with the frothy foam.
  4. Have you tried books by Jonathon Stroud? Bartimaeus trilogy? Depending on whether he likes magic and golems?? Cliff McNish, Silver Child, is another and a small book.
  5. Same as Pickle when we travel to Aus....it is easier when younger! Good luck with your move!
  6. You should phone a school and ask to speak with a student placement coordinator. They are use to dealing with requests and sort out requests for the next academic year now....is the case in my school. Not in ED area though but am sure is similar.
  7. Bulge classes are not always one year only as my school, in Wandsworth, took one this year and accommodating again next academic year!
  8. Tonight is going to be the 'tough love' night with Daddy doing the strategy. Lastnight was a 2am shout out to Mummy although he wasn't as upset as previous nights....plus mummy possibly should have left it a bit longer but think automatically got up. He then chatted away in our bed, between us, but I'm sure I fell asleep before him and that's where we all woke this morning. Good luck nunheadmum and pommie and if you do crack it then please let me know!! Back to work on Monday, teaching 28 7 year olds and I rely on my solid sleep each night to get through it!!
  9. Ha ha Pickle my parents would find me heading out the back door to 'save the donkey in the rain' or other madness! Living in a small country Australian town they had to not only lock the screen doors but also the wooden door. Unheard of then!! My partner will often tells me the weird conversations I will have with him or find me walking around the flat with lights blazing!! Amazed he actually stayed with me after his initial confusion at the beginning. Wonder if my son will turn out to be a sleep talker as he normally does a good running commentary at night talking about names at nursery. Thanks Bishberro = it may be teething as well although we have never experienced this before and he has 16 teeth. The upper left canine seems to be taking a bit longer extending down and he is gnawing on that side. May be that he is experiencing more pain. Have to say that I also had the swine flu jab same day as him (Mummy being brave with him) and I have had a badly sore arm at injection point, threw up that night and nausea for a few days. Goodness knows how he is coping! He has gone down peacefully tonight, as usual, so hopefully he will have a better nights rest!
  10. Yes Pickle, he is standing up in his cot, very confused and doesn't seem to be fully awake. Finally after calming down he seems to realise where he is and settles in with us only with the lamp on. He then chats quietly and falls back to sleep. I was also a dreadful sleep walker (still do at times of extreme stress) and sleep talker!! This motherhood bit is completely worrying about their EHWB and trying to make them feel safe. We shall keep doing what we are doing and hopefully he will fall back into his comfort zone again. A couple of people have suggested a night light??????? Keeping my fingers crossed for your daughter and sleep Pickle!
  11. Okay I have been an incredibly blessed mother in the fact that my son has been a good night sleeper, since 6 weeks old, and self soothing to get back to sleep. This week though has seen him waking once at night anywhere between 10pm - 2.30am, screaming and fearful, with tears streaming down his face. It takes about 20 minutes to calm and soothe him. He becomes even more upset if we try to return him to his own bed so he settles in with us and is then lifted back to his bed once he is asleep. He wakes at his normal time of 6.30am happy and ready to go. I have read on Babycentre about night terrors and wondering if this may be it? This week he has also had his 2nd MMR and a swine flu jab. Plus he has had a couple of extra days with me due to school holidays but also been at nursery. We have noticed that he has become very clingy to 'mummy' of late. No obvious signs of teething/teeth coming through but has been biting a little on his favourite sheep toy. Bed time routine is the same. Any ideas??????
  12. What time exactly is Brockwell Park open in the mornings as when I phoned Lambeth today they said it's only from 1-4pm and closed Wednesday?
  13. Interestingly Moos my friend just had her 2nd c section and proudly told me that they seemed to have tidied up her first scar...not quite sure how that works but am not tempted to have my 2nd child to see if the same applies to me! Know what you mean about the bulge. Helena you may be right with the moving around as my partner said he saw the aftermath before suturing and it looked like they were pulling and moving....makes me shudder.
  14. Mine was pretty tender also for awhile after and I found the recovery very easy as well. I still have a slight tenderness when lifting very heavy things or funnily enough when jumped upon by my 19 month old!! Scar even aches during menstrual time. I was worried and sought advice at 10 months post op, due to other complications, and was told that it may take time. I did wonder if I had overdone it at the beginning as was up on my feet within 2 hours plus wearing a sling with heavy baby when pushchair had broken. I would advise to get it checked as we are all different!
  15. Used baby bjorn then moved to patapum, which is great and still able to carry my 19 month old around in it. Plus he is a tall boy!
  16. Found Kamillosan better than lansinoh in this case.
  17. Definitely must be something going around and on the tail end of colds! My 18 month old had it when we were away on holidays in Gran Canaria. Started at the airport!! It seemed to be yellowish in colour and pooled in the inside corner of his eyes. We bathed it with warm salt water (preboiled and cooled down) 3 times a day using cotton wool. Fortunately it wasn't crusty upon waking.
  18. We have just come back from a week in Gran Canaria with our 17 month old. We stayed in the area of Maspalomas which was more family friendly. Hired a car for added convenience of getting around plus they don't have car seats in the taxis. Had an enjoyable time as had a bungalow which was less stress free with worry of child climbing over rails of a hotel balcony. Plus it was an added bonus of a front verandah that led onto grass so he ran around loads.
  19. Hmm yes I remember the days of constant feeding, or growth spurts, as I was told so well and my liitle one is now 17 months! My best memory was my, 'England Mum' as we call her as my folks live in Australia, popping by when my boy was about 4 weeks old with intentions of taking me out for lunch. When she arrived I answered the door with baby attached to breast and we happily sat around the house the house for the day as all he wanted to do was feed on the breast for an hour, off for half an hour, then back on again! Luckily we had lots of biscuits, cups of tea and TV. This day made it easier for other days when friends popped by and experienced the same! Perfect excuses for not worrying or feeling guilt ridden about what you should be trying to do in the way of chores! On the issue of when to introduce a bottle for expressed milk, we tried at 3 weeks, with success, when my partner would give an 8pm bottle. We used the small medela bottles to see if he would take it then moved onto Advent bottles. Guess we were lucky as there was not any confusion with breast and teat and breastfed him until 10 months. Also helped us as I would be out tutoring for a couple of hours on weekends so there was a supply of breastmilk in a bottle for my partner to feed him. As others will tell you, works for some and not for others and do not be too hard on yourself whatever the outcome.
  20. You could try I&A Babycare in Tooting.
  21. This is interesting and obviously a debate within health professionals. My hygienist and dentist friends, in Harley Street, recommend not to use adult toothpaste due to a possibility of mottling, streaks etc on the permanent teeth, that are forming in the bones. Apparently fluoride content is too high especially with swallowing. Was the same advice when I worked in dental nursing 10 years ago so I checked for our son when teeth brushing began.
  22. If you can't you could try I&A Babycare in Tooting. Took my Maclaren there ages ago and they are incredibly cheap and quick!!
  23. Pickle, know what you mean as my mum and mum in law say the same thing!! I am not in a rush but it is interesting to see the way a child develops and begins to associates actions and words. Fuschia, I am also sure there are exceptions but I also realise that each child is different. As I teach full time and as you say 'it creates alot of work' by monitoring it may be that I will see how he is upon reaching 2 in my long Summer holidays.
  24. So is 18 months too young as other friends have, with success? How do you know if when they hold their nappy and say wee that they are not predicting?
