  1. I remember that advert! I could tell you hundreds of anecdotes, but unfortunately they would all be sexist! Our days (at a record company in the mid seventies) were spent seeing who could do out do each other in actress/bishop jokes. There were no barriers either - the directors would joke with the secretaries and vice versa. I was the telex operator for our company and I was trying to explain to my kids a while back about the ticker tape we used. We had a teleprinter that was a forerunner to a fax machine. Also, the day that all the secretaries got golfball IBM typewriters was very exciting!
  2. Rodwell and Dovedale - I lived on both for many years. My great grandparents, grandparents and my parents and I lived on Rodwell from 1890 until 1993.
  3. One of mine left at 20 and at 22 has just moved back home.....not sure how long for - he can't afford a place by himself and his friends have either moved away or moved in with girlfriends.
  4. Great map of the V2 hits on Londonist.com today.
  5. Hanna Hadley/Hadleigh Bella Brogan - a friend of mine has a Brogan .... the only one I've ever come across!
  6. My God - he actually did it!

    Hagman's eyebrows are seriously disturbing.
  8. Finn? Luke - (I have a Luke. so biased!) Cole? I also like Roman with Reuben!
  9. We have a beagle! Ours is 11 now and a complete couch potato except for her manic hour around 4 or 5 o'clock when she still acts like a puppy! She was easy to train but I never trusted her off the lead. Even now she is still ruled by her nose. Recommend at least 2 long walks a day and a contained secure garden where he/she can nose around to their hearts content! Also second their being greedy! ours will do anything for food, and has destroyed the cupboard where her treats are, from scratching at it!
  10. I was the Saturday girl there many many years ago!
  11. I started at Honor Oak in '68 and don't remember being told anything about QE 1 but definitely remember being told about the River Peck and how important it was in Peckham. And, yes - stream was off limits for a while if you fell in! Jumping the stream is one of my fondest memories! We also used to crawl under the tunnel to the park during lunch hour - we thought we were so daring!
  12. Emotional doohickey is my new favourite phrase.
  13. I stopped sterilising when I found my then 5 month old chewing on the dogs chew toy!
  14. Another vote for Taormina.
  15. The power of the EDF strikes again - lovely!!
  16. So sorry about your beagle. We have a beagle too and I totally agree with you about their world being in their nose! We never let ours off the lead either - but she get 2 good walks a day and gets plenty of exercise following me around the kitchen! Oue beagle does sit and follow a few other commands but will totally ignore us if following a scent. Maybe training from birth would be successful - I would be interested to know if it could be done too.
  17. Very good news!
  18. Yeah I know - Just wondered what he/she (and others) get out of it.
  19. Deleted, because it's really not worth it.
  20. Thanks for the flashback El Pibe!......... I worked for Pye in the 70's and has the misfortune to meet Max a couple of times, what an arrogant prick he was.
  21. Frankly, I'm amazed we're 4 pages in and nobody has mentioned Crystal Swing yet.
  22. Ooooh Cedges - It's my birthday too! I have always wanted to spend the day in Paris but somehow never do!
  23. @computedshorty - Yes, my family has been in East Dulwich and Peckham since the 1790's. My great-grandparents, grandparents, and our family were living in Rodwell Road from 1890 to the 1980's.
  24. Was your father born in the area? I could look up the census entry for your father and his family in the 1911 census .. would be a good addition for the history project! PM the name and/or the address if you want me to find it for you.
