As penguin68 correctly deduces, I was trying to make a point about the logic deployed by Southwark in making such a statement about fairness viz. chargeable services. Anyway, to the point of my former post - James, can you please let us know about any environmental impact assessment?
  2. Hello James, As you are not doubt aware, there is a lot of disquiet (see /forum/read.php?5,2016023) about Southwark?s decision to start charging for the collection of garden waste. Leaving aside the way that this has been communicated to residents (including the assertion that it is only ?fair? for people to pay for the services they use - looking toward to my refund on adult social care then!) - can you please let us know if there has been an environmental impact assessment carried out on this, given (a) the increased use of plastics through the production of separate food waste caddies and (b) the presumable separate collection and associated environmental impact of more vehicles on the road?

We were told that they would arrive on June 1st - which seems to be an issue given that is also when the scheme starts. Oh dear!

  5. Saw a whole load earlier in the week on the Green Chain walk - would recommend Lesnes Abbey in Bexley!
  6. Can?t recommend Saied enough - he?s been doing a fantastic job on our garden this past week. He?s been incredibly patient with us, as two absolute novices: not only bearing with us as we saved up for the work over this past year, but also providing us with a great service and making sure we are happy with everything at all times. Our garden was in a poor state when work started - full of weeds, concrete, wood and lots of other nasties after years of neglect from the previous owners. He?s done a cracking job getting everything up to a great standard, levelling the earth and squaring everything off - as well as replacing fence panels and doing extra bits like filling holes in stonework. At all times, he?s also been a great communicator and has made sure we know what?s going on. Throughout it all, he?s been unfailing polite, hardworking and a real pleasure to have around. Based on everything so far, I can?t wait to see the finished product and am so grateful for all of his hard work.
  7. Do you mean the collection point for ED in Peckham? If so, it?s not open today (Good Friday) or Easter Monday but will be open tomorrow (Saturday).
  8. I requested a new brown bin at the weekend (we share ours with neighbours and as much as I?m unhappy with the charge and Southwark?s ludicrous reasoning behind it, I still want to continue green recycling) - turns out they won?t be supplying anymore until the charge is introduced.
  9. KidKruger Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > From when does this charge start - anyone know ? > (Apols if I?ve missed that info above) Starts in June, you can register from May on Southwark?s website.
  10. I think any without the permit stickers will be removed by the council after a certain date.
  11. https://www.southwark.gov.uk/bins-and-recycling/garden-waste-collection-subscriptions Haven?t received anything through the post yet but it?s on Southwark?s website now - sign up opens May 1st.
  12. Got on one this weekend - thought it might be a fluke but maybe not...
  13. Just wanted to say how much I?ve been enjoying these - they always bring a smile to my face when I look up!

  15. You can trade them in for ? at a CEX (there?s a ton of them around, and ones in Peckham and Brixton) - might be worth it if you have a few to get rid of or have any rare ones?
  16. A banner day already - took in a package for our upstairs neighbour & whilst dropping it off, noticed a missed delivery slip that never made it to us (we have a separate front door which hasn?t caused any problems with delivery until the change in posties). Then, on the way to pick up the 12 via Goodrich Road, noticed some posties sorting their van out by causally throwing things on the pavement. Now in the queue at the sorting office - at least 20 ish people behind me and there?s only 30 mins until it closes :(
  17. I?ve done both the shortbread stars and the red wine tiramisu from this Ottolenghi article (https://www.google.com/amp/s/amp.theguardian.com/lifeandstyle/2016/dec/03/yotam-ottolenghi-sweet-treats-festive-table) - they were fairly straightforward once you got going. I?m attempting his clementine and chestnut trifle this year!

Helen > Hayes hasn?t got back to me either. I?ve just now had a response from her, following an email sent on 28 Sept. According to it. Below, taken from her reponse: ?However, I remain concerned that insufficient action is being taken and that the problems are not being addressed. I am meeting senior staff at Royal Mail shortly, and in advance of the meeting I am compiling an anonymised dossier of all of the problems that constituents have told me about.? She has also written to the minister responsible for postal services highlighting the continued poor service in SE22 in an attempt to try and get some sort of urgent government response.
  19. Post today on Lordship Lane (by Goodrich Road) - only problem was at least half of it was misdelivered and meant for our neighbours and not us!
  20. Living in a flat, it can be a bit hit and miss - some of our neighbours appear not to know what can and can?t be recycled. I had to remove a yoga mat from our plastic recycling bin a few weeks ago and there are always plastic bags in there! Very frustrating. It would be useful for Southwark to remind people - especially those in rented properties who might experience a decent turnover in those living there - what can and can?t be recycled, although I would also like people to take a bit more intiative and find out these things before charging ahead with putting a pair of old boots in the recycling (which has also happened...)
  21. Another recommendation for Richard - he?s just finished repainting our flat to a really high standard. Not the most straightforward of jobs - new plaster throughout and the previous owner left us with more than a few holes in the walls, but Richard took it all in his stride and we?re really happy with the job. He even touched up one of the rooms after a leak from the flat above and has left us with a flat we?re really proud of! Excellent standard of work and always leaves everything clean and tidy - wouldn?t hesitate to use again.
  22. Yep, I?d also be interested in either joining an existing one or starting a new one for ED, having bought way too many books for a week away, I?ve got a backlog to get through (and accompanying reading with discussion and wine sounds great).
