We are closing in on our target and Veolia (the borough's waste management company) have said they will pledge ?1,000 but we need to show community support and get another ?300 to reach our target. And we only have the rest of this week to get there! Just wanted to add a review for Tony at TDR property maintenance. Tony came and completed work on the sash windows, window ledges and front door of our flat. He was really reliable and the work was completed to a very high standard. I was really impressed with how hard he worked despite the sweltering temperatures!He was really helpful and knowledgeable and generally just a really nice guy- he kindly helped a neighbour of mine out with a small job free of charge. I would definitely use Tony again for all future maintenance work. Very competitive price wise too, couldn't be happier!

After a quick briefing we'll be hitting the streets around Lordship Lane. Gloves, litter pickers and bags provided. Just bring yourselves, friends and families! Hopefully see you there!

Thanks Zak, that's right. We're doing our next clean on 11th November, meeting at Rye Books at 11.30am. We're not going to solve the problem overnight but the more people get behind the movement, the more awareness is raised and hopefully the more people actually take action in their daily lives. Small steps but individual action has to be where it starts (but i'm working with local schools, community groups, government and business too so it's a multi-pronged approach!).

Hi guys, totally agree with the sentiment here, it's a huge problem, not only for the simple cleanliness of our community but the broader environment too. It can be overwhelming but we can't let that discourage us. In reality individual action is the only thing we can truly control. This can hopefully inspire community action and wider action too though. I have volunteered to be the community leader for East Dulwich for the national Plastic Free Communities campaign being run by the charity Surfers Against Sewage. It provides a framework and toolkit for local communities to take steps to tackle the problem of plastic pollution. There are now almost 400 communities in the UK working on this programme so it can inspire and affect change. You can find out more about it here: https://www.sas.org.uk/plastic-free-communities/ We are running our second street clean, followed by a plastic free picnic on Peckham Rye this coming Sunday so if you'd like to take action then please do come along and join us. We are meeting at Rye Books on North Cross Road at 11am, Sunday 19th August. We will spend a few hours cleaning the streets (bags, gloves and litter pickers provided) and then we will be heading to the Rye for a plastic free picnic if you can join. Would be great to see you there. PLEASE NOTE, NEW DATE!!!! Plans have shifted so we don't clash with a certain wedding so our community street clean is happening this coming Saturday, the 12th May. We'll be meeting at Rye Books at 10.30am where they have kindly offered all participants 10% off books. After a quick briefing we'll head out in groups to clean different areas before meeting back at Rye Books at 1.30pm. Great to see people getting engaged in the topic and already doing their bit. Another packaging free shop launched recently in Chiswick: www.thesourcebulkfoods.co.uk Not as convenient as Herne Hill from a location perspective but open every day and from the looks more like a supermarket that you can just drop into where as from what I can see Naked Larder (https://www.nakedlarder.co.uk/) in Herne Hill is more of a wholesaler and you have to pre-order and specify a time to collect. I was planning on giving both a go and reporting back but if anyone has first hand experience of either would love to hear. If anyone has experience of the Herne Hill

Thanks James. Great to have support from local councillors for this initiative. It?s an issue that affects us all so having cross party support is key. More details to follow soon on how people can get involved and the event on May 19th.

Part of a national plastic free initiative being run by the marine conservation charity Surfers Against Sewage. The goal is to achieve 'plastic free' status for our community through meeting certain objectives. This campaign is about raising awareness and taking positive steps within the community to change behaviour through engaging with local council, local businesses, local schools and community groups and individuals.
