New pasta / pizza joint in Melbourne Grove
northlondoner replied to David Mc's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Just poked my nose in the joint and spoke to the owner guy. Opening Saturday.Pizza, yes, but not wood fired, I'm afraid. -
Hey.....just posted on this... I love these guys!
-
Anyone had their ear drums assaulted by Sly and Reggie - the peripatetic sound system blasting out "liberal sounds for a liberal town" from their depression era pick-up truck around the area? Very amusing and very ED. Just saw them waved over by a pair of police who rushed out of Sea Cow to see what the ruckus was. After enquiring what the hell they were about the Bill returned to Sea Cow, grinning, whilst Sly and Reggie drove off resuming their music at full volume, thanking "the lovely officers " over their pa system. Who are these guys?

Well done Honaloochieb. Yes the idea of newspaper journos criticising anyone about expenses is a proper laugh. A lot of their claims must surely qualify for Booker nominations. I suppose it aint public money - but I'm sure shareholders might have something to say....

The African / Carribean place on Bellenden Road
northlondoner replied to lenk's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Lenk, the day we went there were a few people in for lunch.. -
Actually I kinda like the place. But get 'em to scrap those annoying self-service automated lanes. Well done for being so proactive.

The African / Carribean place on Bellenden Road
northlondoner replied to lenk's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
actually just got back from the place on Belleneden. Nice friendly vibe and attentive staff - and inexpensive to boot. My companion (of Nigerian heritage) thoroughly enjoyed. I think African and Caribbean foods are very different though - Carib cuisine favouring more distinct clear flavours, for my money. Also its worth pointing out that Caribbean food is more than just Jamaican. So Trinidadian/Guyanese rotis ( indian flatbreads filled with yummy curries) or Trinidadian Run Down are good -if u can find anywhere to buy them! And as for patties - don't be fooled into thinking those omnipresent overspiced crusty doorstops u get in shops in London are the Caribbean norm. In Guyana, Barbados and elsewhere they are small, exquisitely flavoured pies fashioned from melt in the mouth pastry. Sadly the hegemony of the Jamaican kitchen bigfoots these dainty treats. -
Yes good to hear G and B won;t be affected but honestly, doesnt the council have anything more constructive to do?
-
Well done SMB, yes good stuff getting involved here. Is there any chance of getting the ticket office at EDulwich staying open for longer. And forgive me if I am off-target,but are there plans to bring the tube to the station?
-
Apparently someone made off with sick squid. Caught on camera by a snapper.
-
OK steve T forgiven. Nice goat gag.
-
Yes Sakwhita, it was SteveT's tone - and wilful misreading of the "bandana" description - that got my goat. He's clearly gagging to have his fears/desires confirmed. Very little said here will deflect him from that - and he must travel his own road with that. BBW:My seventy six your old rather arthritic father found himself stranded with a flat tyre one evening. He was taken aback - ok scared - to see a gang of the sort of youths you describe, loping towards him. What happened next was unbelievable. They jacked the car up, changed the tyre, put the spare in the boot, and bade him farewell - not before telling him wryly " we're not all criminals." MIkeG: No - anyone using force to defend themsleves will NOT be in trouble with the police. It' called self defence.Don't believe all you read in the Mail. Deptford Diva: National Service - or an updated version thereof - is actually a good idea. The possibility of a compulsory scheme to instil discipline and municipal responsibility amongst the "yout" should be explored.
-
Steve T read the description properly. She clearly says the bandana was either black or white. And the Getz case you refer to gained notoriety because he actually shot one of the perps in the back as he was escaping. That doesnt diminish the crime the perp and his mates carried out -but it does contextualise the case. I don't know anyone in law enforcement who honestly believes arming civilians is a sensible way forward. What happened to mlewis is ghastly and a reality -not an excuse for some half arsed "Death Wish" masutbatory fantasy. Re the incident itself, let's hope they are caught - and hope you are ok MLewis.

Is ED about to experience another property boom?
northlondoner replied to Emily's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Louisa re your impending departure for the Maldives...how long before you talk down that economy, too? Not a journalist by any chance? -
considering a move... can you help re area?
northlondoner replied to clarabelle's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
You can also think about forest hill..but only near the horniman. Westwood Park etc has some lovely houses, stunning views and is WAY cheaper than ED. Plus you can walk to ED in about 12 mins.... -
I;m on Hindman's - just gor my se22 but havent seen living south in a while

Is ED about to experience another property boom?
northlondoner replied to Emily's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
AFN: Very good point. ED remains stunningly underpriced compared to many other areas in London. What you pay for a house in the 'hood will only get you a flat in Crouch End - and in many other less salubrious spots. SNORKS: Heartening to see a return to splenetic form! Snork 2.0 never did ring true! EMILY: Please ignore all the doomsayers. Its not surprising they take a negative view when the mood music pumped out by the media is unrelentingly gloomy. Too many media types get a real boner from making sure a bad situation looks like an unmitigated disaster. If it bleeds, it leads. I say this as one who is all too familiar with that unhappy breed. -

Well done Emily. I happen to think we will soon see a recovery. There are so many voice determined to talk the economy down, it's not surprising that you have encountered such scepticism on here. -
What do you call a boomerang that doesnt come back? A stick.
-
Agreed. It's pretty poor stuff. But compared to two pints of lager, its Seinfeld.
-
This is bizarre - I also saw this, but with one additional wrinkle. There was someone tinkering about under the bonnet, and it looked completely incongruous. He was this tall, good looking light skinned black guy - mid forties, American looking. Expensive well cut suit. He was with this elegant black lady, also very tall and American looking, but she seemed a bit frustrated with his efforts to fix the car. Lots of sun-glassed body guards with ear pieces and bulging jackets. Probably armed.
