  1. WMD, I too am an addict. May I humbly submit an offering I have been introduced to by the ghanain brothers. It is called -ominously - shito. Prononced sheeto. Made, i think, from dried prawns garlic and chilli oil. Most authentically acquired in a bottle with a handwritten label from a stall in Brixton . Now more prosaically available in sainsbury at DKH. Still lush, though!
  2. This is the kind of simple minded crap that's gonna get that channel axed - especially "in a climate of increasing economic polarisation "

My point is that it is dangerous to put too much weight on selected evidence put forward by a partial source-especially one recently shown to be a dab hand at fakery - forged british passports for instance. But even assuming the Israeli military footage has not been maniupulated in any way, does it demonstrate at which point on the timeline the attack on troops occurs? Does it clearly show that these are the first soldiers to board? Or does it show troops being attacked once shooting had already started? The Israeli army is not known for it's restraint or subtlety of approach, after all. I don't know the answer. And I don't think a few edited minutes of Israeli military pictures takes me very far forward in finding out. And I can't escape the point that even if the troops were being attacked as described, killing nine people in response is an outrageous over reaction.
  4. Loz let's say, for arguments sake , a group of activists were able to beat up a group of heavily armed highly trained , combat ready soldiers. Killing NINE people seems an insane over reaction. I'd like to think our troops would never act in such a way. And btw where is St Obama in all this? Imagine US reaction if, say, iranian soldiers killed nine civilians in similar circumstances. I mean, I support the guy, but he's been a bit of a pssuy on this. He should take a break from scoring cheap populist points against BP and show some actual leadership on this important international issue. Its time to man up. His government is israels chief supporter and sponsor, after all.
  5. Matthew 123, any pictures of the nine people being shot by the Israelis ? Put them on here when you find them please. Or did the edited footage released by the Israeli authorities only tell the Israeli side of the story. What a coincidence.

Yeah and if you illegally board a boat in international waters don't be surprised if they try to chuck you off.And P Glover are you seriously suggesting British forces would have opened fire killing ten people when confronted by a violent angry mob? Think you'll find people serving today would be horrified at that unjustified slur. Good job you're now a former soldier . > > Totally agree with Tobester999. 7. Dunno about girly night, but popped in for quiet drink with some friends a few weeks ago and wound up at 0200 very merry having had the biggest party session I'd had for ages. Inspired dj, good drinks, happy amiable party crowd. Brilliant unplanned night out.

'Click' is the term used in some rap/r&B songs to denote clique. So the reference to 'click' here is a rather knowing form cliqueishness. Or is that clickishness? A sort of faux homage to the r&b/rap idiom, if you will. Uhhh....help...I'm channelling Ned Sherrin.

But what a waste of our > collective taxes to pay people to pick up > thoughtlessly dropped litter. There's the irony. The bags being left out are the ones used to line the street bins. So they contain rubbish people have disposed of responsibly. So those people are treated to the sight of their rubbish ending up on the streets anyway -half mauled and regurgitated by the foxes! So.... Urban fox hunting league, anyone? Tally ho!

  12. ImpetuousVrouw Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > There are a lot of sh!t car/van/bus drivers out > there and plenty of dozy pedestrians. Seems the only sensible people out there are cyclists! Horsebox, yes, I was being condescending, wasn't I? But I couldn't resist! Sometimes I wonder who I am.
  13. No long term experience there, but people I know describe it as the New York of Africa. UK expat I work with has a ball there. Very expensive but huge party city. If you want it you can get it. Very big expansion programme being undertaken there - with serious straight money. I think it would be a mistake to turn it down blind. Go for a trial time with an open mind. Think things have improved since Hal 9000 was there.(Wow I can do predictive posting!)

Cycists swap from inside to outside lane in the blink of an eye - and can even create their own middle lane in between moving cars. This is simply NOT safe in busy traffic. That;s why so many cyclists are hurt or killed on our roads. I speak as a cyclist and driver. You'll understand one day. Maybe when you are a bit older.

And speaking or rubbish, JB,there is once again plenty of it strewn around Hindmans Rd courtesy of the foxes' buffet left out by the council's fly-tipping bin men, who can;t resist leaving their bin bags out on the street corner overnight. Lovely image just now. Delightful little cherub 5/6 years old wheeling her scooter throught the fetid detritus ( my, its hot today). Good picture opportunity for the Evening Standard or the like, come to think of it. Steeling myself to go and pick it up myself. Is this what's meant by the Big Society being proposed by Clameron? If so, it stinks. Literally.

Fixed penalty fine for cyclists 1. Going through red light (a classic) 2. Weaving crazily in and out of traffic, assuming everyone else will anticipate the course they intend to take. By magic, no less. 3. Cycling on pavement ( another classic) 4. Not using lights at night 5. Riding two abreast, chatting amiably 6. Not respecting the following law of physics:Truck turning left + bike "undertaking" truck = hurt cyclist. Agreed?

  19. Aaaargh! Once again the council have left their bin bags out overnight at junction of Hindmans and Uplands Rd and once again the foxes have torn them apart dragging vile decaying trash up and down the road. Same story further down Nothcross Rd. I've just returned from Rwanda and this morning our little part of ED looks incomparably more filthy than the streets of Kigali. If I left my rubbish bags out on a street-corner overnight, I would rightly be accused of flytipping, no? Seems a bit much that the council is indulging in this. I've lost count of the times I have spoken to the council about this - only to find I would be better off addressing the foxes. What on earth is being done to rectify the situation?
  20. Don't park where you're not "meant" to? How charmingly naive. Or is that sanctimonious? In case you hadn't noticed the 'rules' as they are enforced around London are often entirely arbitrary and in some cases deliberately vague and confusing. And this image of the enforcement officer as the valiant downtrodden dispenser of parking justice is a bit rich-especially when so many tickets are thrown out on appeal. It's not surprising that folks get irate when the traffic wardens breach the laws they are suposedly there to enforce. Ok, so it's not right to look down one's nose at them, but they clearly need reining in.
  21. Recently interviewed a Glen Gaydar. His business partner was Dr Kariyuki-prnounced karaoke. Plus as a lamentably un-pc black person, I invite you to google the name of the guy who may become Nigeria's new vice president. Also google the name of the joint gas/oil project that country has set up with Russia's Gazprom. Shame on me.
