Any other petrol stations in ED?
Reg Smeeton replied to Portlon's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Twenty years ago there were several more around here: one (or were there two even) opposite Goose Green playground, one of which was SG Smith. Then there was what's now the car dealers (SG Smith?) in the Village. One up Denmark Hill by Salvation Army. Two on Camberwell New Rd near the Green. At least one more on Walworth Road. Are cars more fuel efficient now? Or do they have bigger tanks? Or are there fewer cars? Or just busier petrol stations? -
Only two more people need to sign up for this screening to happen. https://www.ourscreen.com/screening/39888

Hey, just heard on the grapevine that the highly acclaimed 'Death of Gentleman' (a documentary about corruption and the potential death of Test cricket) might be showing at the ED PictureHouse on Sunday 27th September, if they can get enough people to sign up. Sadly I can't make it that day, but the place to sign up to make it happen is here: https://www.ourscreen.com/screening/39888

The only party that I've seen canvassing has been Labour. In fact Helen Hayes came to my door, she seemed sensible and keen to listen. Despite my severe reservations about Miliband, I think Helen Hayes will be a good constituency MP and I'll be voting for her.

Seems like this is your first post nonames. I hope you aren't trolling, there are always two sides to complaints like this and to be honest it doesn't do you any favours to be airing your grievances about your child's school on a public forum. I suspect Goodrich did make a mistake, but as you say, they apologised. Mistakes happen.

I've been impressed by her support for the new secondary school. I haven't always voted for her, but I think she's been a decent constituency MP.

Very pleased with this news, and impressed by the Southwark Council letter which made the anti- case extremely well. -

So James, are you saying that Harris will simply listen to whether Nunhead parents want a primary school or not? (Given a choice of a school two miles away or no school, I'd go for the former.) I didn't realise that the views of East Dulwich residents/parents are irrelevant in this. -

Well done Tessa Jowell, you've put the argument very well. My biggest fear is that the Harris 'consultation' is nothing more than a PR exercise, and that their minds are already made up. -
(ED Picturehouse now open)when is the cinema on LL opening?
Reg Smeeton replied to Ole's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
I peeked in this morning while waiting for the bus. The interior still looked like breeze blocks and plasterboard. I'm waiting for Annika Rice to turn up saying 'We have 24 hours to open this cinema, anyone got a tin of paint they could donate?' -

Their Twitter account was still saying 20th March a couple of weeks ago. I'll be surprised but thrilled if they do manage to open on that date. Fingers crossed. -

James, I have just read the consultation 'questionnaire' from Harris. It is embarrassing to the point of being beneath contempt (first question - 'The aim of this school is to prepare children for happy lives and academic success - do you agree?'). Will Harris be publishing the results of this questionnaire? I doubt it, but if they do, how can we possibly trust their figures, as there is nobody to independently audit them?. I believe there are democratic processes like this in Zimbabwe and North Korea. -

Anyway, whatever Harmison's being paid, victory for Ashington FC tonight in his first game in charge. #HarmysArmy

So former England cricketer Steve Harmison is about to become manager of Ashington AFC (average crowd 250 ish). What sort of salary would a non-league manager like that be earning? What does the Dulwich Hamlet manager earn?

ED Picturehouse - When will it open?

I hope I'm wrong, but peeking through the hoardings I can't see this place opening until April at the earliest. Anybody got any updates? -
Future Thameslink service from Peckham Rye
Reg Smeeton replied to jj2's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Renata: here's my one bit of data for you - this morning I wanted to get to St Pancras (first time this year). The 8:39 at Denmark Hill was so full I thought I'd not try to get on, and instead waited the extra six minutes for the 8:45. Despite the short gap, even the 8:45am was pretty jammed, but I did get on. We then waited outside Blackfriars for ten minutes because of some technical problem at the station. Two other trains were in the queue with us. ED Picturehouse - When will it open?
Reg Smeeton replied to Reg Smeeton's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Reminder, this thread is about when the Picturehouse will open, NOT employment policy (which was done to death on another thread, now lounged). judith.arkwright@hot Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > I don't think the living wage thing is resolved. > Workers at the Brixton picturehouse have got it > but does anyone know if the workers at east > Dulwich will? The original plan was for the Picturehouse to open in December. But given that there's no roof on the northern portion at the moment, surely we're looking at January or beyond. What's the latest on the opening schedule? (And please let this be a thread about the cinema, not about employment policy.)

Reach of ED forum/Other forums?
Reg Smeeton replied to niki_nje's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
I'd be interested to know of any other online community forum in London - or even the UK or, dare I say, the world - that is as active and comprehensive as this one. Maybe there's something in New York or Sydney? -
Is it easy to sell a house in East Dulwich?
Reg Smeeton replied to lesalden's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
On Rightmove about 300 properties in SE22 are currently listed for sale. A year or more ago it was more like 150, so supply is definitely up. Having said that I remember seeing in 2010 that there were about 400 for sale. -
Can somebody clarify which building is being talked about? Is it the one behind Landells Road which was built as part of a pair about 5 years ago? Or is it another one "behind Franklins" somewhere (if so, where?)

The Dulwich estate ? modern day reverse Robin Hood ?

To support that as annual bursaries indefinitely needs a pot of ?3m+, so that's where their figure of 'several million' probably comes from. -
It's gone! The paranormal hearse, which has been sat untouched on the corner of Playfield Crescent for over a year, was suddenly spirited away in the last couple of days. But where to?
