  1. You can't move now for the word iconic. In the news this week, "This morning" is an iconic ITV programme, Richard Hadlee is an "iconic cricketer", and yes, the new swimming stadium for 2012 will be iconic. Enough! This iconisation is going to make me explode.
  2. According to the OP, the man was "literally" on top of you and "literally" pushed you out of the way. I suspect both of these statements are literally false.
  5. Le Chardon, Le Moulin, Le Chandelier, Nicolas, Mon Petit Chou, Jojo Maman Bebe, Le Garage...et maintenant, Joel Pied Sacre Bleu!
  6. Is anyone else following the case of Simon Singh v The Chiropractors? If and when it goes to court, it's going to be a BIG story. http://www.quackometer.net/blog/2008/08/chiropractors-try-to-silence-simon.html
  7. Gosh. Has anyone noticed that men can be divided into two camps, those who refer to women as "Ladies" and those who don't ? I'm not saying that either camp has particular attributes, and it's probably irrelevant to this thread, but it would make for an interesting social study. Right, I'm off to find a plumber on another thread.

Though actually it was the children who were woken up, not me. > Earlier in the evening there was a fantastic show > that was put on by present and former pupils of > the school (going back to boys who were in plays > directed by Michael Croft), Tremendous! I don't remember seeing tickets advertised, or I'd have loved to go.
  9. It's not been a good year for Alleyns and their local PR, what with gratuitously waking up the neighbours on a Sunday night (why not choose a Friday or Saturday at 8pm, guys?), following on from the embarrassment of their pupils having to apologise for the infamous snowball fight in the park.
  10. So far in little more than a week 'poppylucky' has been abused on a 'double-decker' 436, been given inside information on a counterfeiting operation in Playfield Crescent, and attacked by giant rats in Sainsbury. Well, I ain't seen no rats but I certainly smell one.
  11. Can I just say that as a not-quite-your-generation East Dulwich old fogey, I'm thoroughly enjoying this insight into Rodwell life in the fifties. I can't wait to hear more about the wardrobe accident.
  12. Alan Dale Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- >> > Wasn't David Cameron filmed on Windsor Walk > just > > the other day, on this very topic? > > > Really? What was that on? Middle of last week BBC London news did a story about the Tories wanting to claim back unoccupied housing. David Cameron was pictured next to some houses with blue hoarding in front which Dorothy (i.e.Mrs Smeeton) and I were sure was Windsor Walk. Is anyone able to confirm this sighting?

Wasn't David Cameron filmed on Windsor Walk just the other day, on this very topic?
  14. I bought RBS at 11p so I'm laughing...or would be, except that I also bought them at ?1 and later at 44p. Still, if they make it back to 38p I'll break even. But it is so much more exciting than leaving it in a building society.
  15. The CPT and the EDT might carry it (when they aren't showing Ireland rugby and FA Cup). With the return to the rickety old Rec Ground in Antigua, limited camera angles, no video-refereeing and a fast track, it is a nostalgic return to Test cricket as it used to be.
  16. This is a Keynsian idea. 100 men are employed to take down a fence and then put it back again a few months later, injecting much needed cash into the economy via their earnings, and hence ending the credit crunch. Brilliant thinking.
  17. Fortunately the East Dulwich I know is not like Abbeville Village The Party's Over (from Radio 4 this morning). Maybe the crunch came just in time...
  18. Did you like my Souza painting? I was surprised at the valuation, to put it mildly.
  19. I don't suppose any of you accidentally walked off with my scarf did you (red and white).
