Just found one near ED Grove. On reflection, I think it may well have been cleared out of someone's garden, but thought I had better ask. It is in a poor state. If anyone has had one stolen, get in touch. If not, I will pass it on.

Far be it for me to defend it - I haven't done it. It's good on the track, but most of the crimes are form over function. A lot of it is conforming to being a non-conformist. But hey, we are all cyclists and that is the main thing. And don't get me started on 100mm wide handlebars, or running red lights....

Some cheery folks on this thread, eh? I am a geared type, but about to build a singlespeed: Ciocc SLX.;-), prob before eventually trying the fixed thing - with at least one brake. I had the lightbulb t'other day the made me realise I am trashing ?50 cassettes because I mostly ride in one gear around town. There is less maintenance, cheap, light, simple, get your cadence up. That's enough of a reason to try it, surely? Oh, and no I don't go to the city/Hoxton, nor do I commit and of the othe crimes.

Just been out for a walk with the dog and there is a nasty strong smell of burning in the air around the ED Grove/Greendale area. I smell like a bonfire now. I can hear a few sirens - hope no-one's hurt.

I would like to add there have been two recent burglaries in Hillsboro Rd to my knowledge. One was at 4am and the crims were scared off by my neighbour as they tried to break into another house where the occupants and their kids were asleep. They ran off and were picked up by a car but the police didn't catch them.

My neighbour was broken into at about 430 this morning. Thankfully another neighbour scared them off, but the police didn't get them. Keep your doors securely locked at night!

I am irritated by the coaches blocking the roads too, but i suppose it is to stop the effing parents driving in from Kent or wherever in their gas-guzzlers and blocking the roads even more... Anyway the older pupils block the streets with their little hatchbacks too.

And the legenday Fausto Coppi raced there once. I shall be at the meeting.

I'm just increasingly irritated.

Unfortunately, there are absolute tossers in all areas of life. My previous post was bashed out in a hurry, but I must say that what PinarelloFan said is right. If the driver is reported 'in-house', little may be done, but a report to the Met's Roadsafe website should mean that more serious action may be taken should the offender be flagged up repeatedly. I should also add that as an experienced cyclist/cycling instructor, I know that the key to being safe on the roads is respect and communication. If I, as a car driver, don't understand what the cyclist in front of me intends to do, esp. when they never even look behind to see what traffic situations are developing, it is hard not to start losing respect. Who is most vulnerable? Also, riding on the road requires responsibility and assertive road positioning. I also do not run red lights and deplore that habit, although I really believe some are ignorant and don't know the law. Cycling on pavements is illegal, no matter what age. Any adults requiring free confidence-boosting one-to-one cycling lessons should get in touch with the appropriate council's Cycling Officer. In Southwark you can also contact Cycling Instructor.com (no, I don't work for them!). But then there is Clarkes.....
