Hope you're right Louisa! What about the riots on the streets as per Brexiteers claims re. what would happen in the event of a second vote? Would leavers really be as incensed as the likes of Jacob RM say they would? Or just more belligerant propaganda...

Agree blah blah. But still feel those in favour of a soft Brexit could be presenting better, simpler arguments. The fact that the UK has gone from the top of the G7 table to the bottom since Brexit is really significant (not a forecast - an indictment of where we are) but, perhaps, as you say, the language - G7, GDP etc - is a little too abstract. But there will be ways of explaining those facts simply. Remainers should be presenting more relevant arguments (cost of going on your summer holiday; cost of weekly shop). And perhaps they should also be explaining that trade deals with India will come with a caveat ie more visas for skilled Indians who want to come to the UK. Maybe that type of info is more likely to cut through?

I can't quite get my head around the fact that the numbers (ie Gov's own scary forecasts) aren't seeming to cut through to the Leavers in the Question Time audiences. Last week one lady said something along the lines of, 'when are Remainers going to understand that for people who voted for Brexit the economy is a secondary issue?' Think those of a Remain / soft Brexit bent could be doing a better job of explaining the actual day-to-day reality of what a 15% downturn in growth for a place like Darlington would mean...

    Seasonal ailments

Yep, I had that one. Weird runny, sore eyes. Aches and shivers. And pretty wiped. Afraid mine lasted for about two weeks all in (and it did go away and then come back.) Hope you feel better soon!

Government's own analysis January 2018. 'The "no deal" scenario, which would see the UK revert to World Trade Organization (WTO) rules, would reduce growth by 8% over that period. The softest Brexit option of continued single-market access through membership of the European Economic Area would, in the longer term, still lower growth by 2%.' And in terms of all those trade deals, here are the projected numbers... 'The analysis assumes in all scenarios that a trade deal with the US will be concluded, and that it would benefit GDP by about 0.2% in the long term. Trade deals with other non-EU countries and blocs, such as China, India, Australia, the Gulf countries, and the nations of Southeast Asia would add, in total, a further 0.1% to 0.4% to GDP over the long term.'
  7. Is he too old for the Horrible History series?
  8. We were much further outside the catchment area at Goodrich than you are when we applied a few years ago now, and we got offered a place very soon after the start of term. I reckon if you're 50 meters outside last year's catchment, you'll be okay by September. Not easy I know and of course these things vary from year to year, but there is a lot of movement over the summer (particularly in August I think!). And Heber and Harris are great back-ups! Good luck!
  9. Really helpful. Thank you!
  10. We've been out of the babysitter game for a little while and just wondering what ED going rates are these days?! Thank you!
  11. If you're after something a little less expensive you could try the Clarks shop down in Peckham. They have lots of cheaper shoes (often around ?15) which are still Clarks, but last seasons versions etc. It's a bit hit and miss (as sometimes they don't have the size you need) but we've occasionally come out with some good pairs of shoes! The shoe shop in DV is great but obviously pricier!

But the Labour vote in particular was very split. Lots of Labour Brexit voters were obviously very comfortable with the manifesto pledge to leave the single market, but there were lots of other Labour voters, like me, who voted for Labour because TM's version of Brexit seemed so ridiculously severe, and because we wanted to give the Tories a kick re. NHS and schools. There's been some interesting polling recently on how divided Labour voters are on all of this. I don't think you can necessarily extrapolate from the general election that the UK feels comfortable with a hard Brexit. TM would have got her mandate if that were the case. She made Brexit the central theme in her campaign.

The hard Brexit lot wouldn't come out with all the traitor, saboteur stuff if they weren't feeling rattled. The lies about the NHS, the billions it's going to cost to leave, and our economy stuttering while Eurozone recovers are making them feel less than confident hence all the bullying and the aggression. If they were feeling cool, calm and collected you wouldn't see constant recourse to this sort of language.
  14. I bet some 'Western' Europeans / Brits are guilty of taking the freakin' fish home too. A sign like that wouldn't have gone up pre-Brexit vote. So sad.
  15. It's a lovely, caring nursery and the staff are great! If you'd like more info, give me a PM.
  16. How you feel about the head and the deputy head is really important (so meeting the senior leadership at Heber definitely a good idea). Sort of an obvious thing to say, but they really do have a massive impact on the culture and atmosphere in a school, and on the types of teachers who get hired. As people have said, we're getting spoilt for choice in ED, but I also do remember those feelings of confusion. Good luck!
  17. Can the UK government ignore those tweets? So explicitly racist. Surely someone's got to say something...

  19. Another recommendation for Lou and Captured on the Rye! We had a lovely time there for my daughter's birthday party (a group of 4-6 year olds). The kids loved seeing their designs being printed on the T-shirts, and they really enjoyed the spin painting too. I'd also add that it's a really reasonably priced, hassle-free party (venue, entertainment, and party bags all sorted). You just need to turn up with a cake!
  20. The Bessemer catchment's bigger than you'd expect because of the nearby playing fields. We bike there from the Peckham Rye side of ED!!
  21. Following on from what Esme said about sleep cycles, I have a slightly hocus pocus theory that the clocks going back (ie effectively going to bed an hour later) is the exact opposite of what we should be doing...ie it's getting darker earlier, so getting to bed earlier is probably more in sync with circadian rhythms. My three year old's sleep patterns have gone to you know what since clock change, and maybe some adults are similar - need those early hours of sleep! All a bit dull, I know! Bring on spring...
