We are looking to buy a property locally and the surveyor's report has detected "seasonal movement" which has resulted in cracks at the front of the property. The surveyor says that it's not true subsidence but we can't get anyone to insure us for subsidence as any sort of movement seems to fall into the "subsidence" category with insurers. The surveyor feels that these cracks aren't that big a deal but the house seems untouchable to insurers. Has anyone else had this situation? We have asked a structural engineer to visit so hopefully that will provide some clarification.

My child is 7 but I've seen children who look 3 or 4 being hurt. The children climbing up the slides vary in age but look from 3 to 14!
-
I have been a few times and think the new playground is great. However I do think the big slides are an accident waiting to happen. Each time we have been packs of children have been climbing up the slides through the tunnels rather than going up the conventional way. Younger children have then been flipped off the slide as they exit while encountering a bigger child coming up and also knocked off their feet at the bottom as an older child slides out. I've asked children not to do this as my own child is using the slide but it's impossible for anyone to really police it, it could probably so with some signs. I've seen several young children coming away in tears after an accident.

Biodegradable Nappies/Reusable Nappies
bubbachumps replied to alostnorthlondoner's topic in The Family Room Discussion
We used cloth nappies but also liked Beaming Baby disposables - they are biodegradable and work really well, just as well as leading brands. Can be bought from Health Matters on Lordship Lane or from. https://beamingbaby.co.uk/ -
At the Belham we have an active Air Quality Group to look at implementing initiatives around improving air quality in and around the school. We are looking to team up with representatives from other local schools for a stronger collective voice for local lobbying and sharing of ideas. We have a few contacts already (Goose Green, Dog Kennel Hill, St John and St Clements)but we'd love to make new contacts at other local schools too. Please PM me if interested as we would like to set up an informal initial meeting in the next few weeks. Many thanks Louise

Yes I've had the washing machine noise from an upstairs flat before, so annoying, not great to hear it can go sideways as well! I suppose it all depends on who is living next door in the end.

We viewed a house we loved this weekend and then realised that either side are flats. This means that two of the bedrooms are adjacent to kitchens and living rooms which puts me off a bit. Anyone with experience of this?

Zip cars leaving vehicles in our road
bubbachumps replied to PandG's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Surely a Zip Car has the same right to be parked as any other so as long as there are no parking restrictions on your road any car driver can park there. -

Disposable nappy recommendations?
bubbachumps replied to Elenimh's topic in The Family Room Discussion
We use cloth during the day and Beaming Baby at night. Beaming Baby are biodegradable and we have no leaks whatsoever, or any nappy rash. They are for sale in Health Matters or online. -
I am stunned that people who voted for Brexit seemed to think that the Vote Leave campaign was in any position to make any promises. They were not the leaders of the nation and their campaign was not a manifesto. Nigel Farage is not even in the governing party. How people could assume that these random statements could ever be put into practice is beyond me.

Wonderful, thank you, have booked with Rye Cars!

We need to travel to Kings Cross tomorrow morning with lots of luggage with a baby. We are not planning to take our car seat on the trip but all the cab companies tell me we have to travel with the baby on our lap as they don't provide car seats. I have not done this before and am a bit worried about it! Half tempted to take the car seat but with a buggy and all our luggage as well as older child I'm just not sure we will have any capacity! We are going to Scotland so it will be too cold to use the car seat on the buggy. Any advice gratefully received!

We have a son at Belham and so far we are very happy. It's early days for the school but we have no issues so far. The teachers are very high calibre and the curriculum seems excellent. Our child is happy and settled and has made some lovely new friends. The children are taken out and about regularly and have specialist dance and music classes. The only disappointment has been the delay to the permanent building but we feel sure it will be worth the wait. The staff are very responsive to comments and requests. Please feel free to PM me if you have any specific questions. However this is a new school and any Belham parent only has a term's worth of experience here.

Hello I am due my second in October, I have a son who is 3. I can come this afternoon and look forward to meeting everyone! Louise -
We have been allocated Judith Kerr for a reception place for our son in September. I am looking forward to us all learning some German! We don't really know anyone else going there so we would be interested in any feedback from current parents or from families who will also be joining the school in September! Louise

Judith Kerr Primary school - opinions from parents please
bubbachumps replied to vez's topic in The Family Room Discussion
I am reviving this thread as we are considering Judith Kerr school for our son next year. Any recent opinions from current parents would be very gratefully received as we do not know any parents with children at the school but are very keen on the idea of a bilingual education for our son. Please PM me if you would be willing to share your thoughts, thank you. -
Thank you!

I am looking to grow a camomile lawn but apparently it's unsuitable for heavy clay soils. I am a gardening novice and can't tell if our soil is clay or chalky. Any ideas what's prevalent in East Dulwich? Or has anyone successfully grown a small camomile lawn? Any advice gratefully received!

I find it impossible to believe that there were no other spaces free yet miraculously there was a parent and child space free right by the front door. As a mum with a small toddler I only manage to bag one of those about 20% of the time I visit. It really makes me cross to think that people are just parking there with no small children in tow while I have to negotiate the length of the car park with a 2-year-old. I really can't understand how the OP can come on the forum to complain about this after having been warned of the consequences by a member of staff! Totally deserved IMO. I wish they gave out tickets every time, or clamped wheels.

We are tentatively considering moving to the Gipsy Hill area. We've heard the local schools are very good and it appears to be quiet and family friendly. We don't know the area that well though so if anyone has any comments that would be really useful! Many thanks

We started our son in nursery one day a week when he was one and he didn't really settle until we upped it to two days. I think he just didn't really have time to get into the nursery routine when he was on one day a week. A friend of mine whose son was also doing one day nursery, two days childminder, took her son out of nursery in the end as he just didn't settle. All children are different of course, but my feeling is that consistency and routine are important at that young age.
