This pretty much sums up my thoughts and style of riding. Abandon lycra! Embrace the upright lugged-steel steed!

Lady Deliah - Rosie and I disagreed with you on facebook about this and I'm going to have to again. Your accusations that there is some sort of institutional racism within the media that means that only "brown Muslims" (your words) get labelled as terrorists is simply innaccurate. See the IRA, Timothy McVeigh or the Soho nail bomber for example. I sympathise that tabloid coverage (esp. in the Sun) jumped the gun and instantly labelled these attacks as Al-Qaida related. This was clearly wrong. But I think getting fixated on semantics does nothing to help in this situation. It merely detracts from the atrocity.

More to the point - who moves to an area without bothering to find out where the shops are and how to get to work? Is that not the thing you check after making sure the house isn't falling down? And also.....why does no one ever use bloody google?! Bah, I'm grumpy this morrow.

Then you've got to factor in the fact that fish farms support communities, in often remote parts of the country, with good jobs. However, that is then counteracted (possibly) by the fact that farmed salmon has undercut wild salmon to such an extent that it has become uneconomical to fish and put fisherman out of business. Veeeery tricky and emotive subject.

Thomas Yet again you're misinterpreting what I'm saying. I've repeatedly said you are more than welcome to oppose the eating and production foie gras. Kudos to you. Just keep it theoretical. I think removing the freedom of choice from others is wrong.

I suspect the monitoring of extremist groups internally is conducted by MI5 (the Security Service) and so is not discussed for those reasons. I have no reason to doubt that in the wake of the attacks in Norway, internal threats to British security by far-right organisations will be very carefully surveilled.

What would you like to see the coalition "doing" to prevent such an attack here?

Opens this week I think so time will tell.

Dim Sum is next door to Fenton Walsh....so just across the road from the Prince Albert. Used to be a sandwich/cafe place. Can second BB's opinion. Pork char sui(sp?) buns was superb. All very reasonable. 4 of us stuffed our faces for just over ?10 a head.

OMG - you're turning this into a class issue?! Wha...? Are you potty? There is no class issue at play here with anyone other than you. You think I ate swan for breakfast this morning or something? I didn't. I had bacon. See, common-as-muck me! This is an issue of personal freedom to pursue an activity fully within the law. If you want to campaign to change that law, fine. Do so. In the meantime, leave me and my foodstuffs in peace.

Otta - if you were just being sarcastic then I apologise. As we all know it gets lost on the page when in person it would be obvious. And Piers - climb on up - the view is lovely.

So then it's not really fair to compare the two, is it? Seriously, I'm with Horsebox on this. The proselytizing from Thomas and his crowd is getting right up my chuff. I'm fine if people disagree with this or any other food stuff production, and they can continue to educate and advertise their beliefs (as I've done numerous times on food issues I feel strongly about like bread) and I'll debate it here with him till I'm blue-in-the-face. But I think prevention of being able to obtain a legally available food stuff enjoyed by thousands if not millions around the world by a small, minority-interest cabal seems at best unhealthy and at worst dictatorial.

Because foie gras isn't illegal, I would imagine. It's a free, moral decision. Not a legal one. Currently.

Oh, the irony. I can't take it. Gosh - with conspiracy theories like this you'll fit in well with any anti-Zionist movements. You know, we're all emailing each other behind your back to organise the resistance don't you? And your middle-east knowledge may be unsurpassable for all I know but your knowledge of African politics leaves a bit to be desired if you think the only reason we're not wading knee-deep into Somalia is because of a lack of natural resources. Well, that, and the fact that Somalia is abundant with natural resources.

But just trotting out the same old line of "oh well they don't have oil so we won't do anything" is so over-simplified as to be worthless. If you want to talk about strategic political and trade aims - fine. Do so. Just know something about what you're talking about first. Or wikipedia it like normal.

When safeguarding principles is difficult

Ah - interesting Piers. I thought that might have to be the case. Often it would be for those who are as much a danger to themselves as to others. I suspect that will apply here. -
He attacked values. He seems to have attacked those he felt had betrayed his nation with their tolerance or belief in a multi-cultural Norway that allowed immigration of non-Christian populations. Why he chose young people at a political camp rather than more high profile targets (i.e. further explosives near political offices) I cannot imagine - perhaps to make the strongest possible statement. His confession in court will be his moment to explain/defend his actions. That in itself is unusual - rarely do such gunmen get captured alive. It will also represent a massive challenge to Norway's liberal legal system that only permits a maximum 28 year sentence for any crime.

Bring on autumn. But then I love offal too....brawn, liver, kidney, hearts, sweetbreads....the whole kit and kaboodle. Fergus Henderson is a god. Mmmm....I feel a trip to the butchers coming on.

As Phil Collins made clear to Chris Morris - that's nonce-sence. Seriously DJKQ - you've been known to take umbridge before but this is a whole new level. Epic fail.

What Otta said. He's rapidly becoming a Hamed or Eubank figure. Supremely gifted but dislikable. You want him to win and get a smack in the mouth at the same time.
-
Ah yes.....video evidence. Marvellous stuff. I've watched it - but I'm so immune to animal suffering due to my previous careers as badger gasser and mink furrier that it has no effect on me. God, it's like those awful pro-life people who will try and show you images of foetuses - you either believe in it or not. Imagery shouldn't be the deciding factor. Of course we could eat ethical foie gras, right? Tastes like crap though. Now, ortolan....that's where the action is. I'm trying to breed chaffinches to satisfy the French market but the buggers keeping flying away. I'm going to start breaking their wings at birth. Anyone for chihuahua flan?
-
But Otta - seemingly businesses are already following his requests yet beyond TM I've seen little will for this. Ambivalence at most. I'm now boycotting Franklins till they bring it back! ;-)

Really? You don't think there is anything wrong with someone who has no democratic mandate whatsoever preventing my access to a consumer good in local businesses that had previously stocked it with no complaints (to the best of our knowledge)? That smacks of a one-man dictatorship, not a democracy.
