  1. Didn't take long to get back to the really important issues I see. Jolly good. Carry on.
  2. Can I point out that according to news reports, early convictions of rioters have included students and teaching assistants. Not all of these people are unemployed.
  3. Oh I see....it's all a conspiracy against these poor gun-carrying criminals is it? And their criminal families (ever heard of aiding and abetting - you should have as a lawyer). He was carrying a gun. Ergo he is a criminal. And a very dangerous one. And the idea that police actions "sparked" disobedience is what gives liberals a bad name. What sparked this violence is nothing more than opportunist criminality. No right minded people were protesting against the police shooting a criminal.
  4. LadyD - you told us so?! Really? God, I thought I was a patronising git sometimes. What's with your need to constantly defend the indefensible? It's like you can't see the wood for the trees. Would you like to explain what he was doing with a gun in his car? That IS fact. You carry a gun, you're going to get shot. Maybe not by the police, but by someone. Otherwise you wouldn't have one. His family are saying it was for "protection". Why? Because he was a criminal. A drug dealer. Scum. That's the only reason you need a gun. I'm not exactly mourning his loss. This isn't another De Menezies. Not even close.

Dispel rioters. Tick. Help community relations. Cross.
  6. OFFER OF HELP I'll be cycling home from Victoria tonight leaving between 1730 and 1800. If anyone is worried about their own trip home I'm happy to cycle with you back to Peckham or ED. PM me for details.
  7. Two more interesting articles: Katherine Birbalsingh - London riots: In Brixton last night, hooded, smiling boys hung around ? waiting for something to kick off Nic Darlington - We know nothing except we are all to blame for this
  8. I'm not sure Scandanavia is the best example of social harmony right now. And whilst I'm in agreement that lesser wealth inequality is a great panacea it is not the be all and end all. There is a far wider range of cause and effect circumstances in play. Some of which Piers has alluded to.
  9. Or the Specials "Ghost Town" on loop!
  10. Greggs and one other commercial premises now on fire. A sad day for Peckham.
  11. Like the stuff that used to be fly-posted nr ED station.....marvellous stuff. Utterly bonkers.
  12. Lady Gooner - if you want jerk chicken then follow the recipe of Peckham's own Food Stories. All her recipes have been excellent when I've tried them. Also this one and this one.
  13. Seconded. I've already traded in a suit there.
  14. I must say I loved the Shadow Line earlier in the year - I was properly addicted.
  15. I suspect almost anyone using illegal firearms is in some sort of "gang". Be it bloods/crips style or Ray Winstone "leave it you muppet" style crims. Beyond that - no one knows squat.
  16. Burgers are 6 or 7 pounds. Don't think they should be less given the quality (although I agree they've slipped a little in the dept recently) of the ingredients. Mince is fresh, burgers aren't pre-made and all meat in minced less than 24hrs before being used. After that it's chucked. I don't think they are over priced at all. Chips at ?3 are a con. Poor standard and well over priced. BBQ pulled pork and sides were pretty decent for ?8.
  17. You actually made me check. I hate you.
  18. More info here. Any insinuation that I had anything to do with this press release or in anyway could be associated with its contents are scurrilous lies. Ish.
  19. Today is going marvellously too. England will declare at lunch or at Bresnan's 100 I would imagine.
  20. Likewise, my hypocritical liberal-pinko values allow me to take a back seat and see Quids get scolded. Bravo that woman. Rosie, if any those kids you're knitting pubic hair ponchos for are peckish, send them over to mine - I'm having ortolan for tea and have spares (although it might just be sparrow).
  21. It's Worcestershire Sauce - the county, not the city. I'll get my coat.
  22. Talk about have your cake and eat it.
  23. You more of a "more is more" girl, Rosie?
  24. Couldn't let this thread die. From this year's Mercury Prize nominees, the stunningly beautiful King Creosote + Jon Hopkins - Your Young Voice
  25. Despite not being a fan of the genre in general I always turn to hard-rock/metal for best intros. Just massive, loud, guitar riffs. Black Sabbath - Paranoid Beatie Boys - No Sleep Till Brooklyn AC/DC - Back in Black etc etc But also a soft spot for soul and the horn sections you'd get opening Motown or Stax numbers. Sam and Dave - Hold on I'm Coming
