If my brother had been killed by a 'landmine' in Afghanistan I would not then shag his wife so we could both feel better. If our future is to be more paranoid than now it will not be because of terrorist attacks. It will be because too many dramatists think that being relevant has to involve ID cards, police states, high tech data tracking and CCTV. I can vaguely remember reading some book at school by a bloke called Orwell which was like this but considerably better. Shame on all those lovely thesps. Yawn.

Nationalise everything and have done with this money nonsense. (Oops, having a Leninist Monday)

Judging by the lack-lustre attitude of the local rozzers we'd be better off arming Louisa and turning her loose on the mean streets of Ed - which are so much more dangerous than Chiswick where no crime ever happens.

The Drum-Northcross rd selling up
AnotherPaul replied to karter's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
I have to say sorry to you sweetchicken. I was too quick to judge the drum's neighbours and I had wrongly assumed that the complaints were from one household - hence my 'people who like to complain' comments. I've been on the end of zealous and fanciful complainants but that's no excuse to lump all the drum's neighbours into one group. As for a replacement business, if it's down to a choice between Ann Summers or good Pizza I'd opt for the later every time. (edited to remove an extra word) -
There wasn't enough range or variety to sustain the selling of expensive clothing. Expensive shops like that can still do well (proving shrieks of 'recession!' to be a bit hasty) but they have to have more than one core stock, like the shoe shop on North Cross selling accessories - that's sensible and keeps the cash coming in. So many independent shops try to their one thing really well missing the obvious - that shops do best when they are useful. And it was in the wrong place.

Ok, so my comment about sound and churches was wrong, sorry fo0r that. I agree Nero, people are entitled to complain if laws are flouted but, and it's a very important but, some people are really keen on complaining. So much so I'd like a law to deal with neighbours who can be shown to be doing so with excessive zeal. -

If you live in a commercially active street there will be noise. Whilst noise carrying into where you live must be a pain living in a Church is asking for noise issues what with it being designed to amplify sound. This story of small groups or even just single households being determined to close down what they view as 'noisy' businesses is one I've heard several times before all over London yet it never ceases to puzzle me. Whilst we are all entitled to want peace and quiet in our homes by choosing to live in a busy city noise will happen around us whether we like it or not. It's a pain for all concerned for sure but ultimately some people need to be a little more practical about what they expect their environment to be like. Oh, and if the place of full of dealers what do they look like? (edited coz i can't spell well) -

The Drum had a few things going for it, the most obvious being Cooper, his amazing Nachos and soups and of course his dog Blue. Whatever happens with The Drum I hope to see more of Cooper, he's a good man and cook who deserves to do well. That said the service at The Drum is inconsistent at best, often customers leave from having had to wait to be spoken to which is a basic. Rob the co-owner brings a weird atmosphere with him - window smashing dramas aside - he seems a bit disconnected in a way that bar managers just can't be. For me it's a shame it will close but so long as I can get hold of those Nachos I won't mind too much. ap Oh, and as for Louisa who posted on p1 of this thread, what's with your misery? The closing of a bar involves the loss of livlihoods which for the people concerned is about as serious as it gets. Whilst you might not like The Drum, cheering on it's demise shows us the extent of your dreary awfulness. Maybe go read The Mail and cheer yourself up a little. -
I was loving Mark Lawrenson's definition of people who voted for man of the match using the web: "geeks" - and that's all of us it seems. I was happy and a little confused to see England come back and better after conceding. Weird. And am also chuffed that the prick McLaren is away from my eyes.

Time for East Dulwich merchandise m'thinks. Starting with a t-shirt emblazoned with; 'I'm from East Dulwich, does that make me a celeb?' ap oh, and why care what journalists write about ED. Muttley are you planning Alistair Campbellesque rants at journos telling them they should have visited cheese shop X over tat shop Y then? It can't matter that much.

is that building a squat? and anyone know what's the story of the printers?

Yes Spurs will whip our behinds for the next 21 games. And thanks for reminding me of the news paragon. That kind of thing makes my month.

I just spotted that 'Arsehole wanker' comment. Really spadetown, that's needlessly offensive. Wenger conducts himself with a dignity which Fergusen can't even come close to. Having constructed a team that play in a style Fergie now copies, being a brilliant spotter of talent and a great man-manager the insults sound rather desperate. Your insults prove why Arsenal are a better team and club whoever wins the league - life's about how you conduct yourself as well as how much you win. Just as with big Sam, Fergie should be grown up enough to forgive the BBC for reporting the truth (how rude of them!). He's a good manager alright but at a club with very deep pockets (Veron for ?26m!!!!) With that kind of money I'd be a good manager with a far nicer nose, less chewing gum and honest children. ap

Save ED police station petition
AnotherPaul replied to mlteenie's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
From personal experience the rozzers at the ED station don't combat crime and so can leave. That building would make a lovely neo-brutalist uber-tat-shop which could wipe out all the other tat-shops in one go. Anyone who like to invest in this idea contact? ap -
On the corner of Overhill and Underhill stands an empty new build with 4 or 6 flats - can't be bothered to check. I saw them on the market last summer, on Wates website resplendent in their suspicion tickling super wide-lense shots. Tiny batchelor pads as found all over Hackney, dropped into ED opposite Camberwell Cemetery was not the best idea it seems. However, something needs to be done with them, office, sqaut or wrecking ball? - you decide.

I got one and thought 'well the cover's ok' and then I opened it. Like Dulwich Life but worse, much worse. I don't think it should be recycled, that's not final enough.

i've been gathering a load of the music listed here which fit well with my very eclectic selection. i do genre hopping and try to fit a whole load of seemingly different stuff together, hinged on it being likable and good. fun without cheese. that was vague wasn't it, the proof's in the hearing. am rather looking forward to it but it is the first party of any kind i've done for 4 years or so. if you see me gulping GT's either buy me another or make me stop. citizenED Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > AnotherPaul - what you gonna be playing on > Friday/ > > Kym Sims - Too Blind to See it > > Jean Knight - Mr Big Stuff
