I believe there is a very good reason why Vodafone (and 02 incidentally) generally have better coverage - they both use a lower frequency (GSM 900) to T-Mobile, Virgin and Orange (GSM 1800). The lower frequency carries through walls and barriers better. I further understand that the 'cost' of using a lower frequency is slightly increased battery use, but that could be total bollox. Also, higher frequencies can carry more data, but I don't suppose that matters really.

Would it not be great if you could just wash the cooking oil down the sink, throw light bulbs and batteries in the trash and onwards to a landfill in Wales - hey, why not even just dump it all in Peckham, which is, after all, a toilet? I sympathize on some of the points you raise - it must be very frustrating. But you you sound like you resent dealing with batteries properly - most people would chuck them if allowed. Sadly, it takes stiff regulation and a nanny to make us behave.

Alpha ruined a lifetime friendship of mine. Almost as soon as my friend started it, he developed what I can only describe as extreme evangelist views, and was unable to contain them - he'd even stop random people to tell them about the the holy spirit and how nasty hell would be for them if they didn't become a believer. I ended having to ask him not to contact me anymore. I have met several other Alpha people over the years, with all of them sharing these views to some degree In my limited experience, Alpha prays on the weak, and leads them either into or towards right wing evangelism.
