Europe off the beaten track- holiday ideas?
hislordship replied to Minitoots's topic in The Family Room Discussion
Not mainland, but we went to the Azores (the remotest you'll get in Europe I think) a couple of years back, and will definitely go again. I don't think there are any direct flights, so all in, it takes almost a day to get there, esp. if you go to one of the smaller islands. We rented a little farmhouse, and hardly saw anyone for 10 days. Sensational and unusual scenery, sub-tropical climate and absolutely nothing happening. Bliss. -
Watching season 5 also - can't help thinking it's not going to end so well for Quin and private detective friend :-)

Motorcycles allowed in Bus Lanes - an early report
hislordship replied to PeckhamRose's topic in The Lounge
As a former scooterist and now proper motorcyclist, I'd agree the training for scooters is dismal. You can get on geared 125cc, capable of 70 odd MPH after one days training that even a monkey could get through. A couple of hours is just classroom work, a couple more in a car park, and then a couple on the road. The new motorbike test is actually pretty good - the final test is about 45 mins. on the road, and you are not allowed to make a single serious fault. A serious fault is anything that causes another vehicle to have to make any sort of evasive action, even such as changing speed. You generally have to do 5 days training or almost 40 hours. You can get a private pilot license with 40 hours! -
I'm glad we are calling them what they really are now - I've always felt the word 'scrummy mom' or whatever the word is to be an oxymoron. >:D

pedestrian crossing east dul grove/lordship lane
hislordship replied to rgutsell's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
I've thought about this a few times, from both driver and pedestrian perspectives. Lights or yellow crossing would only snarl up the area even more. I reckon a bridge with 3/4 ramps would be best - maybe with a little seating area on the top. Too expensive I expect though - I bet we'll just get yet more lights one day. -

I too have a genetic tendency for high cholesterol - I'm very fit and eat healthy to the extreme, but it still sometimes goes as high as 8. I will be on statins in a few years for the rest of my life - there's nothing that can be done. Shit genes.

And especially agonizing, 'Can I get a latte' when they mean 'May I have a latte'. I've noticed the majority of people in Nero's do this. -
Queues at Lordship Lane Post Office

A rotten business would get put out of its misery, and anything useful would emerge from the ashes via the magic of market forces. Great innit? There's a big market in Star Wars men delivery(6) -

Queues at Lordship Lane Post Office
hislordship replied to Sue's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
This is actually one of my pet hates - every visit to any post office causes me rage, and they are all the same. The problem, IMO, is that they offer way too many services - people go in there to pay bills, withdraw money, change money, buy TV license stamps, get application forms for almost anything, all in addition to normal post related services. There also appears to be an antiquated social element to most offices from times long gone - a whole generation grew up with post offices having a central function in the community. I do understand that not everyone wants or can use the internet to download forms or make direct debits etc, but at the same time, I haven't seen the PO make any effort to adapt to modern times. I just wish the Government had had the vision + nads to privatize it a long time ago. I think it's probably beyond hope now. -
Actually, I said 'How is it that it's a fucking weekday, and I still can't get a fucking seat to have a fucking coffee in this fucking coffee shop. Lazy fucking mums. Fucking that's why. Lazy fucking mums.' I do recognize that I have an little anger problem before I have my coffee, so sorry mums. Not your fault.
-
I had to walk out of Nero Coffee twice yesterday as I it was stuffed with mums with 4x4 bugs and I couldn't get a seat. BTW: Husbands/boyfriends of said mums - are you all aware what your 'wimin' are doing all day? Who cleans the house and makes supper ffs?

French Campsite recommendation anyone? - (west coast with pool)

A lovely independent place in the Limousine - no pool, but so nice I thought I'd post details of it anyway. They also serve up truly outstanding food. Campsite in Limousin -
Drug deal at the end of my street

I saw a blatant, well organized deal take place not a couple of hours ago in an eatery on the strip. -

Although I've not had any problems with my Elite, I do know 1 of 15 or so mates who had the rrod. I wouldn't worry about the reliability issue though - it is the best gaming platform out there (I even switched from a PS3), with the best games and awesome online gameplay. Once you get one, you'll quickly waste away your wonderful life playing the likes of Halo/COD - and if you get the rrod, MS will replace or fix it anyway. The machine is a rare example of MS getting something so right, and Sony getting it so wrong.
