  1. ... absolutely Mockney -- and I also can't help to point out, rather ashamedly, the chavvy types rushing to be the first to lay Esso-esque flowers at her gate, gushing with battle-worn, fag-drawn mouths "Aww, she woz ahh Essex-gahl next door she was"...Er, she came from Bermondsey *slaps forehead in Pappa'League of Gentleman' stylie*
  2. ..you can't give Oval -- it contravenes the General Shapes After Dusk Clause -- a safer option is to apply the Country Pub Garden rule, hence: Cockfosters
  3. ..yes, I've wrestled with this one all day .. sad loss of a young girl's life, sad loss for her family, but does it really warrant the media circus it has become? I really despise myself for saying this, but the ultimate reality coverage was hers wasn't it? Looking through the coverage, even up to the last minute she was performing for the cameras -- I think what upsets me the most is that her life became a parody. It's great that she has left a shed load of money for her family and raised awareness of cervical cancer, but I can't help think that she lost her 'existentialism' a long, long time ago. However, I do admire her for successfully taking an opportunity to make good a bad start -- what else could she have done, having not received a good education (I think I read somewhere today she missed a lot of school because of family tragedies), and suffering the mishaps of her 'elders and betters'? Good for her that she was able to make the best success she could of her life, and still smile when facing ridicule for what I would call 'situationally-enforced ignorance'. For a seemingly simple girl, quite a complex story, picked at by media vultures. BUT: Nothing can forgive her racism towards Shilpa Shetty -- and she only came on tv with tearful apologies because she knew it would redeem her a bit -- once a racist, always a racist in my book
  4. When I was overdue my bedtime on a schoolnight, my mum would say "C'mon fanny-anne fannacker-pan" -- still to this day don't know where it's from or what a fannacker pan is!! Happy Mothers Day to my lovely mum, and all the other mum's out there ...hope you're having a great day :) PS -- If you were one of the people buying flowers from Alan's florist this morn, well done you -- t'was lovely to watch people walking up the road with big bunches of flowers and baskets as I sipped my latte in Nero :)
  5. Double digit letters and for extra points adding the digits together to find the correct 'zone', hence I propose Bounds GrEEn (Zone 4)
  6. I bought a lovely little bag of fruit for 50p in Clapham last week :p
  7. Have to bring this out to keep the Spectrum Convention ongoing Palmers Green
  8. ..."Eyes bigger than your belly" "There's no such word as can't" "Don't say what, say pardon" And my dad would say, in response to me running in after playing lamp-post tick or British Bulldog with the kids in Hawkins Close, saying 'Blimey I'm sweating' (I was a tom-boy): "Horses sweat, ladies perspire"! My poor parents never did quite manage to shape me into a genteel :-p
  9. ... I would love to live on a Narrow Boat -- not many in ED I know, but I'm seriously considering changing my neighbours to the inhabitants of London Zoo :)
  10. ...Sorry to say this but watching the video on YouTube of the founding guy talking about the place, reminds me of an Iain Banks novel I read once called 'Whit' >
  11. Sounds very interesting -- I second the questions posed by Legal.....
  12. ...I've bitten the bullet and repotted, I'll keep you posted (oooh, it's exciting eh?!) TL
  13. ... I have two orchids on my shelf at the mo -- one is just (today) flowering again, after bulbs started to appear over the last few weeks -- the fist flower is in full bloom (just like the pic above) and is beautiful. Am glad I persevered -- it was just a couple of twigs and a big green leaf for a year :) The other orchid (the jewel orchid) is so delicately beautiful when it flowers -- but it has gone gangly -- and is not in flower or even budding. I am so tempted to gently remove it from the main stem (where it is obviously getting it's nutrition) and replant in a new pot -- I just wonder if it would root?
  14. How funny it has a book dedicated to it -- anyone have a spare copy I could borrow? Don't know if my interest stretches to buying the book (sorry!) TL
  15. On a gardening note -- I have a Jewel orchid at home -- it has sprouted an off-shoot out the side and looks in danger of toppling over (plus, it looks gangly). Is it possible to remove this off-shoot from the main stem and re-plant without killing it? TL
  16. After all the exercise I've done this weekend, I feel quite old this evening -- hopefully I'll feel youthful again in the morn :)
  17. Thanks Steve T :) There's a funny pic of my friend and I: http://www.parkrun.com/Default.aspx?tabid=186 Pic number 19 (I'm in a red t-shirt and white socks) TL
  18. ...Hey, if anyone is mad enough to do what I did this morning, come along and join, it was a lovely way to start the weekend....cycled from Dulwich to Wimbledon Common at 7.30am (lovely time of the day to be out on the olde bike). Rocked up to the common with my whippet-like friend, and did the 5K Time Trials (which start at 9am) through the woods. I used to do the Richmond TTs, but this is so much better, much more scenic. It's free, it's you against the clock, they record your time online and take a few funny photos as you go round. All abilities, friendly types, really sets you up for the day. Took me 40 mins to cycle there..., and 26mins to run the course. :) Check out their website www.parkrun.com/WCTT
  19. I went to ED Pool on Friday for the first time -- I love it, I hope they don't refurb it soon, I like the old-fashionedness, not many pools like this anymore. Was it a school once? I love the fact you have to walk down a very long corridor passed offices with non-descript people typing stuff. very macabre :) It's fab :)
  20. Buddhist Mantra (And I reckon the Buddhist's are pretty healthy) Body like a mountain, heart like the ocean, mind like the sky So...learn to be robust, to let emotions ebb and flow without constraint (don't have to act on them), keep mind clear and free from bias.... easy peasy huh??
  21. I've just bought tickets for Waiting for Godot in June -- should be excellent with Ian McClellan and Patrick Steward...
  22. I feel (like) revolting

    Cynicism

I'm just sitting doing some work, taking a sip on my carton of very sweet ribena...that has 34% of the RDA for adults, that is also produced by GlaxoSmithKline group of companies, who also produce antidepressants... my research involvements show that diabetes and high sugar intake can be linked to depression (ie lifestyle choices to eat high sugary food, perhaps in an attempt to feel better)....see where I'm going with this. Obvious point I guess, but to see the full cycle of a medicated society right before my eyes (and catching myself taking part in it!) is, er, depressing.... now where are those pills? Is this the meaning of modern life, to act as money siphons for big conglomerates -- buy their stuff, get ill, buy their stuff to enforce wellness....mmmmmm
  24. ...helpful, I think ... ie check out the david bowie thread, picture posters galore, just wondered how to do that... Mockney you arse, it was a valid question ;-)
  25. Could somebody explain to me how to do the above...ta :)
