    Stay Alert

The ones getting off the bus, as expected, were virtually all young and fit looking. This demographic are at the very, very lowest risk of getting anything more than mild flu-like symptoms. Our two sons had it and were back at work within 3 days. Same with their mates. As long as the young and fit commuters wear a mask and avoid touching surfaces then they are at minimal risk. This combined with a sensible policy towards interaction with older and/or more vulnerable friends/relatives will significantly contribute to lowering the overall risks and will certainly eliminate the occurrence of "a ticking time bomb". Using phrases such as "ticking time bombs" frankly, is unnecessary scare mongering. The consequences of not getting the economy back into gear are extremely serious. The state just cannot continue spending Billions each week handing out cash. Whatever the state spends is sourced from borrowings. It has to be paid someway later.

She reached a level of competence, experience and professionalism which made her eminently qualified for appointment by government to the position she holds. She has demonstrated her ability and justified her appointment by the manner in which she has presented the facts during these press conferences. She is not a political appointee as might be construed, rather she is an entirely capable and credible professional.

Your assertion might have some credibility if you were to identify the source. Usage of the word "apparently" is suggestive of a rumour which is being propagated even further.

All of these tests were done AFTER the EU imposed power restrictions on vacuum cleaners. The majority of vacuums since then are in the power range of 700-900watts so as to comply with the 80Db noise limit also. Previously the best vacuums were in the power of 1200 - 1500 watts. Power generally equates to the strength of the suction provided, hence none of the latest models have seriously impaired performance compared to previously. Simply put they suck because they don't have enough suck.

  7. Just a few suggestions........ 1. All touch screens on cash dispensers should have a "Virus Alert" on them which encourages users to wash their hands afterwards or use gloves. 2. Checkout screens in supermarkets should have similar guidance. 3. Public transport users should not pick up freebie newspapers that have been used by others as the virus can persist on paper for around 4 days.
  8. @BB Whilst, as you say, there was no "definite evidence" the probability is in favour of China being the source of the Spanish. China has proven to be the source of The "Asian Flu" that originated in China in early 1956. Likewise the SARS epidemic. This being the case, China needs to get a grip.
  9. The real question is whether China will now change its policy towards the "wet markets" which sell a wide range of wild animals both alive and dead , including bats, snakes and armadillos. I have been to several cities there and seen many different species caged in high density situations in close proximity to foodstuff. Hygiene is non existent. Given that China has been the source of many of the worst viral pandemics over the last 100 years, it's about time they wisened up. The worst, in 1918/19 killed 50 million and is believed to have originated in China. This was brought to Europe by the thousands of Chinese labourers used as labourers by the Allies in WW1. Then the was the Asian flu pandemic in the 50's. There appears to be a lot in common with Ebola and wild meat products in Central Africa.
  10. Just bought my other half a conference call capable phone system to mean she can hold group meetings without having to travel on public transport. I reckon the Tube must be a high risk area from now on.

A subscription is not necessary. There are several browser extensions that allow you to circumvent paywalls so that you can read a whole raft of newspapers for free. Best to use the Firefox browser and install Bypass Firewalls. That way you can read about 50 publications from the FT, DT, NYT, Economist, Sydney Morning Herald, Economist, Baltimore Times, Harvard Business Review, Wired etc, etc.
  12. Always had superb service from PlusNet and from what you have said, this is clearly an Open Reach issue. Phone calls and internet signals come down the same cables but they have different frequencies. The phone line signal is much more prone to loss of quality when the line deteriorates due to poor connections or water damage. This unusually manifests itself as audible crackling on the phone. If you get internet but not phone then it is a line issue and it is Open Reach and so it is up to your phone provider to take it up with Open Reach.
  13. There are many different strategies that could be deployed. Here are a few >>>> 1. Put Baron's Hot Sauce on the food in the containers or just simple chillie powder/mustard. 2. Reposition the containers in the neighbours front doorstep. 3. Set up a CCTV cam to capture the "crime" and report it to the Council Etc Etc
  14. At least if we go to WTO terms there will be a lot less expensive Mercedes, BMW and VW imports and a lot less cr*ppy Renault, Peugot and Fiat. Then we can happily all drive around on Nissans made in Sunderland or Toyotas made in Barnaston. With the increased volume then they would be incentivised to achieve 100% local content and so re-build a thriving UK motor industry with a 100% local supply chain.
  15. GIVEN THAT:- 1. The worst of congestion happens always during school terms when parents drive their children to Alleyns, JAGs & DC, and 2. The worst pollution happens when vehicle engines do not get fully warmed up on short journeys such as when parents drive their children to school. in large Chelsea tractors. THEN, in in this technological age, it is surly a simple task to create a traffic control system with ANPR cameras for certain local roads that would:- a) Impose access charges for all except fully electric private vehicles to particular roads. b) Restrict access, during certain time periods, for non-electric vehicles. c) Allow access at any time for vehicles registered to owners living on the streets with the restrictions mentioned above.
  16. Should he get a peerage? Or should we break with the tradition of automatically granting honours to civil servants who have already been paid to do the job - or not do it, as in some cases?
  17. I spent some time on this and eventually got Win 10 installed in place of Win7. It work 100% Ok and it's best to have your system set for best performance rather that allowing windows to set the balance between performance and appearance as the latter imposes a heavy load and slows you down. The secret is to go to C:\SWsetup folder and find the folder SW_Ver. Cut and paste this entire folder somewhere else temporarily in say C:\Temp. Now you can do the upgrade to Win 10 and when its done paste the SW_Ver back again. Let me know how you go.
  18. Is it saying it has an issue with "Infineon" because I am working to solve this issue on a PC which has not being used for a few months.

  20. There has been several incidents reported recently on the forum so it may be of interest to some to see a few snaps of a male who gained entry to my car at 00.35am on Saturday morning. It was parked off-road on ED Grove. Description:- Male White Age - in his 20's Height 6ft - give or take an inch Weight -75kg approx. ie Thinnish Very short hair Dark blue / Navy padded jacket (parka)with hood. Jacket has vertical side stripes. Side stripes continue across shoulders at rear. Light colour trousers. Probably beige. Black trainers with side highlights on sole. Apologies for the small size but these were taken from video footage
  21. Did you get is sussed out? Another idea is that it may be your neighbours CH pump that is mounted on a shared wall and it is vibrating. Check what times their CH comes on. Or do they have a heat pump ( reversible air conditioner) that cuts in from time to time? My other suggestion is that it may be a water pump that cuts I when the water (in some sump/tank) reaches a certain level at which point it pumps out to empty the tank. Alternatively it may top up a tank when it gets down to certain level. I have one of the former that empties the deep sump under the lawn to assist the drainage in the clay soil. If the noise isn't coming from your own property then It's a matter of going outside, walking around your property, cupping your hand around your ears and finding out the direction it is coming from.
  22. CH circulation pump bearings on the way out?
  23. Now this thread is drying up, it is interesting to look back at all the sneering, put-downs, aggression, bigotry, intolerance and ignorance. If nothing else, it is indicative of which is really is the "Nasty Party". The self-same undemocratic mob that pitched up outside No. 10 yesterday.

  25. Consider making or buying a secure drop box. 5 years ago, I made one from wood which is firmly attached to the wheelie bin storage wall. It has a door at the front and this is secured with a padlock that the Postie finds inside. When he has put the parcel(s) inside, he locks the door with the padlock. Padlock is bright yellow so I can see it as soon as I get home. Capacity is almost wheelie bin size. OK it handles only one delivery at a time but it's been a most useful bit of kit. Might make another one to take multiple deliveries like this.. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/12-METZ-Large-Red-Letter-Box-Post-Box-Mail-Letterbox-Drop-tall-PARCEL-Box/392047285365?hash=item5b47d6d475:rk:15:pf:0&checksum=39204728536589d008e5a2374a2689ac89a86796491c&enc=AQADAAAC8BkojIFHYtWT%2BANpG6F7t2Hwmg4dZREnOw9L%2FDgkltEs%2F9yRiQSkK6kFOYPpVi3YO11kLiAfJSvtxfwYaaogojDI4bjoENYLlaNGcd3qOW0g38%2FNXulp9L9Y0Ch0eoHnIs44SGdlOIsN37fu%2Ft5zVn%2BMlNc8du9MP0P92xoem0y%2Bu4cjf4pV3Xgyqcx5GuVnO9Tq1Uey60t39vtHvc8fNFdG50KayytvqrRGE0y7gTyTK5I1SRwMl%2FUXFZFv4dahyih0%2FmNZRjDZht9j50eWuYlLsfqCH%2FAm8MCz8vSrDp37RxsY52be5a%2F6CgRAeDFu%2Bm7y2x4GDKzijut4Hy8AnnD1Nd%2FG49YI3fdmgwV9oH%2BrE0kMxraP82u2cJpKu4emao7bmZhOcb%2BaU7HigkWfG%2FkRRIKBg5Zv2VFTIO%2B3A09oSnK1qo2RMhaSKFNeb3%2BWek68Qur%2F%2Fh06JezdCaJSqNBnvsq780Dfs2C7T9BFkklNXosTOmFtzAjJTerDmum6yx%2F4YxA%2BgcH8E%2B74MJ5PtlLlj8zvfTv%2FYHpiZp7A1jeJfIgatRP7YdDfnRL0vigyHXIv0SevUcbl2GWyncI38h2ctOEppss37cU2wUaa3WkvVGRqPgTby7c9qhEwXiOm1o5yHvA1OI3yOzK8%2BEcmAYNtx%2BBJAjxsHHle9jLFKI6rX5dqYBq%2B5Wfdpv46YlOoTzyBLx%2FNpu3P67svsjyxHcYiyCj2PLBm0G0wvISeC%2Fxa7dW4QHtge0JY6L1G7ccXH47sJ%2B55E4b95Hb%2FWMpWKlVmjnEUwC7vgKnWsWDpEtaaAJ%2Fl8HKFLoi0TZmXRI7pCgt8mz%2BxhWwc3MH64QppKSaIIR5FLEm7qaCrxsfPNGp%2BIprrkgEzzbURC9jDv%2Bvq66GliAuEO9pkgM7iNRyIOJr1BfK%2F2IhA8rDjzQmnRdSdyNrz1odhp6sRRwNEZbhXgFdNNmu5uD0Qs5FCZmw9qRx5FVdOo%2FAZ%2B0w2oJo2HTPy
