  1. The click and collect service seems to be no different to the usual long-running service of requesting a book from another site or reserving a book already on loan - which operated fine before, when library staff had lots of other things to do as well. If the libraries are all staffed as b-oeuf says above it would indeed be interesting to know why it can't work now. I asked the question in my email to the library but got no reply. Incidentally while I was waiting in Camberwell library to pick up my 2 books two separate people turned up wanting to use the library and were turned away - there is a need for the library to start working again.
  2. I used the click and collect service to request 3 books - all shown as available for loan at the time. It took 4 weeks and a reminder email before I got any response and then I was able to collect 2 books and still waiting for the third (which is still showing as available in Dulwich library). It's hard to see why this service can't work better than that. I don't think I'll be using it again anyway. I am generally a big fan of Southwark Libraries and very pleased that the Council has managed to maintain such a good library service over the years - which I think is far better than most other London boroughs and appears well used. Pre-lockdown it seemed to me the libraries I visited (Camberwell Green & Grove Vale mostly) were always well used, particularly by people who had need of somewhere quiet to study or work or to gain access to the internet. That need must still exist. I hope the library service can get things running again in some form soon.
  3. Thank you Lynne, I think you're right. It looked more dramatic and stylish to me at the time but I think it must have been either a dingy skipper or more likely a grizzly skipper. Never seen or heard of these creatures before and delighted to have been introduced to one! Thanks also Chris99 I didn't know about the walk.
  4. In Greendale this morning I managed to get a close up look at a butterfly (or possibly moth) of a type I've never seen before and cannot find on butterfly and moth guides on the web. I hope someone can help me identify it. It was sort of medium, or bit on the small, size for a butterfly with wings which were very dark brown and dotted prominently and very beautifully with pink spots. Sounds like I'd been drinking I know but not the case. Can anyone here tell me what it might have been?
  5. Thank you Dis and Tomskip, much appreciated. David
  6. Dis, are you able to give us the name or phone number on the flyer? My mum is looking for someone to do some work on the tree in her garden and recently had a (very genuine looking) flyer through the door from someone claiming to be a tree surgeon. I don't want her to suffer the same horrible treatment as your neighbour. Also I found this news story which doesn't encourage me but at least these ones were caught. http://www.bromley.gov.uk/press/article/1252/rogue_traders_sentenced_following_gardening_and_tree_work Thanks David
