Another vote for Dulwich Medical Centre in Crystal Palace Road, I moved there from 306 Medical Centre in Lordship Lane a few years ago and they are fine.

It's simply a stealth tax. Local authorities are liberal with parking tickets and many are issued unlawfully, in the knowledge that most motorists won't contest. And as pressure on local govt spending increases, so the volume of parking fines issued will increase. The simple solution is not to break the rules.

Parking ticket for loading...grrrrrr....
Mikey replied to American Robin's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Jeremy, I agree parking on a dropped kerb is forbidden for good reasons, but I was loading / unloading which is permissible under the relevant legislation. I also think tickets are issued when they are technically unlawful, and if the local council want to play by the rules then they should abide by them (in my case this this wasn't a "dropped kerb" in the strict legal sense rendering the ticket unenforcable). And I guess I find the whole business of blatantly generating revenue through parking fines pretty cynical, so if can beat these bureaucrats at their own game then RESULT ! -
Parking ticket for loading...grrrrrr....
Mikey replied to American Robin's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
I recently appealed successfully against a fine for parking adjacent to a dropped kerb and I get the impression a lot of tickets are issued unlawfully in the expectation they will just be paid and not appealed. The relevant legislation requires the kerb to be completely flush with the road - many are not and I used this in my appeal. There are exemptions too - eg you can park lawfully if you have permission to do so, or you are loading / unloading for less than 20 mins. I would appeal and start by asking for copies of the enforcing officer's notes and any photos taken. (In my case the photos were so poor they could not have been used as evidence.) Parking fines are just a stealth tax - fight back and if you don't get it turned over at the first appeal (just a tactic on the council's part) press on ! Good luck -
how do i get a game of cricket in Dulwich area?
Mikey replied to medium paced's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
The tour's 22nd-25th May. Won't be netting myself as I'm carrying an injury . Actually Thursday might be the better night for you as the nets are graded and it will be mainly 1st / 2nd XI on Tuesdays. Ask for coaches Steve Choney or Allen Blackford - these guys will look after you. Good luck and hope to see you in the bar in the Summer ! -
how do i get a game of cricket in Dulwich area?
Mikey replied to medium paced's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Come and play at Dulwich Cricket Club in Burbage Road. We have six teams out on a Saturday and three on a Sunday. Either come down to nets on a Tuesday or Thursday night or call the Club Secretary John Lawrence and let him know your availability. You'll need to call him at least the Monday before the weekend you want to play. And dont worry that you haven;t played for ages - I made my club debut aged 35 and this is my Eleventh season with Dulwich. (And if you want a spot of cricket over the bank holiday we're a player short for the 4 day 6th XI mini tour to Somerset and Wiltshire and the end of the month!- PM me if you fancy it) -
Any lordlords out there ? What's it like from your perspective ?

There seems to be a lot of rooms available at the moment in ED. I guess it's a sign of the times with people trying to get a bit of extra income from renting out the spare room. With surplus supply are landlords finding it is difficult to rent rooms out, and is this driving rent down ? Are the days when a nice room in ED would fetch ?400-?500 a month a thing of the past ?

I live just opposite the Crown and Greyhound and my Virgin mobile reception in the house is usually very poor. I have to move round the house to find a spot from which I can send or receive texts !

Fine for enterting no entry zone in Peckham (Lounged)
Mikey replied to seanmlow's topic in The Lounge
I had the same experience. ?60 fine. Personally I think it's an abuse of CCTV. I can understand the need to control serious crime, but using CCTV to catch drivers for minor motoring offences is overstepping the limit in my opinion. -
My DW just arrived home from shopping in ED with her new SNUB. Very chic it is too !

Fined ?75 for dropping a cigar butt - fair?
Mikey replied to seanmlow's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
?75 seems excessive - they should have given you a warning first. How did you get to the figure of ?16,000 ? -
Just popped down to the EDT for a game of table footie, and gorblimey it's gone !!! Anyone know another pub nearby with table football ?

David, You'd be very welcome to score for us (Dulwich VIth XI) one Saturday if you like. PM me if you're interested. Cheers Mike

Not quite ED but I can recommend Dulwich Cricket Club in Burbage Road, SE21: http://www.dulwichcc.com/ We put out ten teams last weekend (seven Sturaday / three Sunday )so you should be able to get a game whatever your level. Nets are on Thursday night at 6.30. Anyone's welcome to turn up if they want to find out more. If not, there are loads of other clubs off the South Circular.

Best Family Frendly Sunday Lunch Pub in East Dulwich?
Mikey replied to a topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Toss up between the Herne Tavern & Crown and Greyhound (though technically the latter's disqualified as it's not in ED) Thinking ahead to the summer I think the Herne's going to be doing a roaring trade. Playground and "Teletubby" landscaped garden for the kids, gastronosh for mum and dad. The Dog is ever popular with families. Plenty of seats outside in garden where you can witness little darlings making mudpies out of mineral water at two quid a glass. No playground but they do have a stock of giant sized board games. If I had to chose I'd go for the Herne, it's got the edge foodwise and the garden in The Dog's looking a bit tatty nowadays. -
I like the Thai Pavilion - the food's great ; it's a bit more upmarket / formal than the Thai Cafe if you're celebrating a special occasion. It's correspondingly expensive. You can't fault the food at theThai Corner Cafe either. It's excellent value for money , particularly as it's non-licenced. The only things I don;t like about it, is I find it a bit cramped, you can hear everyone elses's conversation and I don't like this thing about having to book 7.30 or 9.30. PS Does Crystal Palace have more Thai restaurants per head of population than anywhere in SE London !?

Louise, Did you spot "Pickwick House" - just past the gallery on the left before you get to the South Circular ? It's a nod to the reference to Dulwich in Dicken's "Pickwick Papers": " 'The house I have taken,' said Mr. Pickwick, 'is at Dulwich. It has a large garden, and is situated in one of the most pleasant spots near London." It's still one of the most pleasant spots - but the house prices have gone up a tad since Dicken's day !

I think Polly's idea of a Tapas type bar is a good one
