  2. I'm with *Bob* on this one. And Fisking makes my eyes go funny... What's happening in The Drawing Room? Surely this thread should be lounged by now?!
  3. Brum - Have you also thought about the external temperature? As well as using Paracetamol (Acetominophen), it is often sensible to think about turning down the thermostat, opening a window, using a fan and trying looser, lighter clothing or bedding - these should all help in lowering a raised body temp. But don't freeze! But as a health professional, I would advise you as others have done, to go see your GP.(And I see you already plan to do just that).

Was this post an April Fool? If not, then surely it deserves the "Neanderthal comment of the year award"...?
  5. Good Ol' Deputy Gogarty He's an old schoolfriend of mine! We'll be catching up next week for a drink. He can be a bit of a dick though sometimes. But a very commited local politician and popular in his constituency. Now - if only we had debate like that in the mother of all parliaments?
  6. This issue and report isn't solely about paedophilia in the Catholic church in Ireland. Like the Ryan Report it captures the pervasive malaise that was prevelant in Ireland up until the mid/late 1990's. The capitulation and collusion of civil functions of the state (particularly the Gardai) is sickening and I am pleased that this aspect is to be further investigated. For decades, since the foundation of the Irish state, up until present day, Irish Governments have essentially handed the Catholic church responsibility for education, health, social care and in some cases aspects of family law. This is finally changing but still has some way to go in my opinion.
  7. Peckham Rose & Ratty have summed up my feelings on this. I too work in a frontline health & social care position in this borough and for me, my voting in a GE is less about how I may benefit as an individual from a particular parties manifesto but how society in general, particularly those who are significantly disenfranchised and disempowered may benefit. And I don't believe that under a Conservative Government, that this part of the population is best served. The issue of Mr Stranack selling his maisonette in Croydon and moving into the Monks Hill Estate is interesting. On assumes therefore that he essentially made himself intentionally homeless and thus not entitled to local authority accommodation? I am assuming he was accommodated in church housing on that estate as he is currently in Peckham. Essentially, this Conservative is advocating Christian intervention (ie: church/charity) in place of Big Government intervention in addressing social need. This discomforts me greatly (I suggest people read The Ryan Report - or the Irelands Catholic Shame thread in the lounge). Once governments start pawning off civil functions of the state to religious groups then that way trouble lies in my opinion. This man is a Conservative and likely conservative too (big & small C). I do not feel he represents my interests or those of the people I work with ( most of whom are unlikely to vote). For that reason, I'm out.
  8. Surely the whole Camberwell/Walworth combo has a place on this thread? And obviously Fornton Heef has been mentioned already. And I'd include Norbury.
  9. Wow - that Shard has gone up quicker than I realised. It's not clearly visible up on the heights of UDB. *Edited because my grammar and syntax are all over the place this evening*
