Southwark consultation on Peckham gyratory
Clifton replied to Marguerita98's topic in Roads & Transport
The information given in detail here is about the area from East Dulwich Road northwards, and seems reasonably helpful and well thought out. It appears, however, to be the first part of a bigger plan. The text “Our plans include restricting access on the east side of Peckham Rye Park by introducing a new ‘bus gate’. This would restrict general traffic except for buses, cycles and service vehicles (e.g. bin lorries)” suggests that all traffic coming from the Cheltenham Road area will have to go elsewhere, presumably increasing dramatically the traffic on Colyton Road and Peckham Rye West. That would be alarming. Am I misunderstanding this? Have they misunderstood the meaning of Peckham Rye Park, when they are actually referring to the north section of Peckham Rye Common? (It wouldn’t be the first time, if so.) -
South East London is not very well stocked with Bridge Clubs. The closest one to ED I know is the Livesey in Sydenham. There are also clubs (known to me) in Blackheath, Wimbledon* and Richmond*, and several others in South London of which I have no experience (e.g. in Beckenham). Some, or probably all, of these (and certainly the bigger ones*) will offer teaching - contact them for help. You can also learn on line - see https://www.ebu.co.uk/new-players/resources-informal-and-online-bridge-learning Hope this helps.

I agree that the noise monitoring guy was helpful and knowledgeable. The permitted volumes are (according to the engineer) 70dB for most acts, and 75dB for headliners. That may not sound too bad …. but 75dB is approximately 3 times as loud as 70dB, so it’s quite a difference. He also said, though, that 75dB is typical for all acts in many outdoor events. The wind direction was different from in the last couple of years, making the sound only very loud (as against completely unbearable) to the south west of the site, but I assume that others suffered more this time. Please, everyone, ensure that you respond to next year’s application when it is submitted - I’m sure that we will have to (yet again) work hard to prevent the company adding a second weekend.

GALA Music Festival 2024 Consultation
Clifton replied to tomster's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Please ensure that you register to attend the Stakeholder meeting on Nov 29th, as failure to do so will be taken to show lack of concern. The key task here is to get the Council to minimise what's allowed under the licence. I've read somewhere that the applicant company has changed this year. Well, sort of, but that doesn't mean that the change is radical. Last year the company was called We Are The Fair Ltd. This year it is Assembled Live Ltd. A quick Google shows that while these are indeed different companies with different directors, they have worked together on events in the past. In the case of one licence application by Assembled Live, the correspondence address was that of We Are The Fair. -
GALA Music Festival 2024 Consultation

Note that in the letter to residents the Council attempts to minimise impact by saying that "12% of all available space (park and common)" will not be accessible for 21 days. The headline on the website also sticks Park and Common together, although the application correctly refers to the Park. Please point out in your objections that approx 25% of the Park will be rendered inaccessible by this proposal, and that the Common isn't of much value to many of those who live on the west side of the Park. -
Is that music the Gala festival already?

The comments above from Melbourne Grove and the Dulwich end of Barry Road show how loud this event has been. Imagine what it’s like if your house is directly over the road from the stages (as ours is). It’s good that people enjoy themselves, but the noise level and the vibrations mean that we are effectively obliged to go away (either for the 3 day period, or for much of each day). Next year, the company will apply for a licence for two 3 day events rather than one - they did the same this year, but withdrew the second application. If that is allowed, it will become the norm. Please object and help us avoid yet more disruption to our summers. -
My understanding is that this year's event is three days long, but Gala intend to apply for an Event Licence for 6 days in 2024 (and probably subsequent years), having now secured the necessary Premises Licence. The degree of disruption (of various types) to those living locally is such that numerous objections to the extension are inevitable, but there will be responses in favour from people living elsewhere who want to attend, and I doubt that the objections will be successful. Nevertheless, we must try - please contact Councillors over the coming months.

It'll be sad to lose the no 12, as it's been around for a long time, but otherwise the proposed change should have more or less no impact for people in ED. The 148 will be extended southwards to cover the 12 route to Dulwich Library. The effect on frequency is unclear, but as the purpose appears to be to remove excess capacity on Walworth Road, it may well be that there's no effect south of Camberwell Green. https://www.cityam.com/here-are-the-bus-routes-set-for-change-cancellation-amid-tfl-cuts/ (Follow the Walworth Road link.)

I lost a black card holder containing a Freedom Pass and other cards somewhere between Sainsbury?s in Dog Kennel Hill and West Dulwich at lunchtime today (I walked via GreenDale and the village). Please DM me if you have found it. The cards are cancelled, but I?d be grateful for the return of the Freedom Pass and the card holder. Definitely worth a nice bottle of wine. Thanks

possible congetsion charge extension

As some previous posters have said, the public transport model in London is much better than the one used in other parts of the country. We used to visit my parents-in-law in Yorkshire. Two competing companies each ran an hourly bus past the door on the same route. You might think there would have been a bus every half an hour, but the gap was actually just five minutes. Each company wanted its bus to run just before the other company's bus, so that it could maximise its passenger numbers. The timetables changed every few weeks as the companies played timing leapfrog. Regulation by TfL gets us the sensible service patterns we have become used to in London. Action to introduce the same model elsewhere is long overdue. -
If anyone was concerned about a very large bang this morning, here is the explanation: https://www.southwarknews.co.uk/news/peckham-rye-park-locked-down-after-hand-grenade-found-by-builders/

There must be plenty of fish in ED's gardens and parks ....

Many thanks to the Parklands resident who has now PMed me the information I requested. Thread closed.

If anyone in the Parklands flats on Peckham Rye (west side) sees this thread, I would be grateful if they could PM me contact details for the managing agents. (I live nearby and need to write to them about a relatively minor issue.) Thanks
