Breastfeeding and going back to work
Rogue Apostrophe replied to anna_r's topic in The Family Room Discussion
Pumping once or twice a day probably takes less time than all the colleagues who go for about 5 fag breaks a day, so hopefully they won't have any issue with it! -
Pay cash with no contract, it will mean you don't have to worry about any admin. She can be responsible for her NI and tax, should she wish to tow the line and declare the cash-based income. It's probably the same as having a gardener or cleaner. Unless you go through an agency, you probably wouldn't pay them any sick leave or holiday, would you?

I have only ever had one nappy leak, I think it was a Nature Babycare one when my daughter was just a couple of weeks old and doing really explosive poos. We tried reusables from the Southwark nappy voucher scheme, but I just found it all too much of a juggling act with work and household chores, so disposables have been fine instead. The waste does bother me, but we are very thrifty on our other waste, so it's all about a balance. Sainsbury's Eco are our preferred choice.

Simon from Amigo's Magic is BRILLIANT. He comes highly recommended on the forum, do a search for him to see lots of great reviews from local parents who have used him for parties and events. http://www.abcmagic.co.uk/child_magic.html

Holiday tips - travelling with baby
Rogue Apostrophe replied to snowboarder's topic in The Family Room Discussion
portable DVD player, now there's a thought. we have to do a long flight to india this summer which i'm totally dreading, i think i might have to use this as an excuse to splash out on an iPad! -
We haven't babyproofed anything in our house, we have taught our daughter which are the no-go areas and she is fine with that. She's bumped herself maybe once on a table edge, but nothing more than that. Of course we keep an eye on her whilst in the house, but then we have a small place so that is mostly easy, and I've moved the bleach out of the way, just in case! I find that teaching her about safety is very useful for when we're out and about, particularly as in the big wide world, not every plug socket is covered, nor is every sharp edge covered in comfy foam.

Letters, that sounds pretty much similar to what we pay for childcare. Our nursery is ?59 a day. We pay our babysitters ?5 an hour but I use teenagers for my toddler so it's cheaper. When our daughter was younger, we used a registered childminder and she was ?7.50 an hour for evening babysitting. Babysitting rates really vary, I think ?10 an hour is a bit steep, unless the sitter is first aid qualified etc.

(My car has been) broken into
Rogue Apostrophe replied to Sushi's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
yep i would never intervene in such an occasion. i can't really see why that was mentioned above as it's obvious no-one in their right mind would bother interfering with a car break-in unless it was their own car. just not worth taking the risk of someone pulling a knife on you or something similar. You know what is best for your child, not some TV-psycho such as Oliver J. If you are looking for a book that is a nice antidote to conventional parenting and encourages you not to stress too much about it, then try the Aaargh to Zzzz of Parenting: http://www.amazon.co.uk/Aargh-Zzzz-Parenting-Alternative-Guide/dp/022408626X/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1276539793&sr=1-1 I've got it out from Dulwich Library at the moment, but should have it back there in a few days!

jalapeno, you can't be too surprised that no-one accosted him, as you yourself didn't want to interrupt his tampering with your car. passers-by have families too, it's just not worth intervening, the most you could have done is called the police there and then. always worth reporting these incidents! -
Urgent buggy in plane hold question!
Rogue Apostrophe replied to Ruth_Baldock's topic in The Family Room Discussion
Unrelated to the original question, but I have a fold-up lightweight stroller, can I take this on Easyjet in the hold or do I have to pay extra?
