Having done 4, and been through every variation, my conclusion is that they get there when they are ready, and probably it makes little difference whether you fill in the time by just postponing the whole thing, or by having a few months of constant accidents. I have also managed to TT both by junking the nappy as soon as the child managed to use the toilet ... But also by keeping one in nappies (for a holiday) long after they wanted to be dry. And also by having several attempts, so out of nappies, back in ... In short, it's worked out ok for all of them in the end, but each was different. There wasn't really a 'one size fits all' magic approach, and nor was it a totally linear process. If course, that's all pretty common sense, with the benefit of hindsight. The only general advice that always holds true I think, is to do what feels right to you and suits at a given time. Don't be scared to change tack if necessary. Don't feel Pressured by anyone else. Same advice as for sleep, food etc, in fact

I can really recommend this, though http://www.amazon.co.uk/Ultimate-Potty-Training-Reward-Chart/dp/B00BEXB28Q http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/aw/d/B006DLFHZS/ref=mp_s_a_1_2?qid=1419894398&sr=8-2&pi=AC_SX200_QL40&dpPl=1&dpID=41ncz%2BIoR2L&ref=plSrch Perhaps with http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/aw/d/B005LVN1HW/ref=mp_s_a_1_4?qid=1419894511&sr=8-4&pi=AC_SX110_SY165 http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/aw/d/B005UNY0MG/ref=mp_s_a_1_6?qid=1419894556&sr=8-6&pi=AC_SX110_SY165 and a book to read in the loo The sticker chart gives rewards for little steps like sitting on the loo/potty, hand washing etc - so you can reward for any part of the process, even if he doesn't actually go in the potty at first ... The sticker chart is a good visual reminder for the parent, too

I think they often don't want WANT to be big boys, they want to stay our babies! All my boys tt started with them oblivious to the whole idea of it ... The first success was just getting then tu actually sit on the loo/potty at all. They would keep off and soon after would go on the floor! Took days if not a week before they used the potty for the first time - then various degrees of success with them starting to use it reliably after the first time. So ... Your son might or might not go for it. Bit early to say.

How do people manage financially...

Do you have space and are the grandparents free enough that they could stay over one night a week and pick up a bit of childcare for you? Could you put your mortgage onto interest only for a few years? -
Petition re Dulwich Hospital site
Fuschia replied to samstopit's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
'As the site is Metropolitan Open Land, the footprint of the new building did not exceed what had been demolished; no MOL was lost. There is a slight increase in the area of open land available for the park compared to previously; this is possible because the new building does not occupy any more space than the old, although not in exactly the same location, i.e. the "footprint" of the buildings on the site is no greater than before, and some additional land adjoining the park to the south has been added to it. The care taken to minimise the impact of the building operations on the site, both in terms of the wildlife, and protection of the deciduous woodland which is left unharmed, was required by the planning conditions attached to the project by the London Borough of Islington, some of which arose in turn from conditions imposed by the Mayor of London' http://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Parkland_Walk#Crouch_Hill_Park_Project It is the case that above a certain size (1000 sq m?) discretion doesn't lie with a local council Anyway, Harris have said they don't want to build on the land at Harris girls, haven't they? That's all a bit of a red herring. -

If the school isn't an academy, they do abide by quite strict nutritional guidelines. http://www.schoolfoodplan.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/06/School-Food-Standards-Guidance-FINAL-V1a-140616.pdf

Trying to get 3 year old out of our bed - any tips
Fuschia replied to Undiscovered's topic in The Family Room Discussion
How about making her a small bed up on your floor (old cot mattress?) and telling her she can creep in there and sleep quietly if she needs to - sticker in the morning if she doesn't wake you up? In my experience, trying to 'ban' them just makes them more clingy, but encouraging very gradually separation, 1m at a time, is a good approach (and the main thing for the adult is having enough space to get some sleep!) -
With an injury like that, I would have expected a discussion with the school about exactly how he got the injury.

They absolutely do grow out of it, if that's your concern. It is a phase linked to stages of development.

In terms of consumerism, how about introducing small amounts of pocket money and taking her to spend it, perhaps in sainsburys where they haven't the hair bands, sweets, stationery, toys etc? Help her appreciate the cost of things. Also ... Make sure she knows that YOU buy some of the Xmas presents And emphasise how much you love her (and get brother) and like to give her gifts ... And help her make gifts for others It's not very attractive when we see out children as grasping or greedy, but with tv and advertising etc, it's hard for them to avoid the pressure!

Agreed. 3 of mine went to Mm and it's fantastic.

Simple, inexpensive party bag ideas/ alternatives?!

Baker Ross sell same stuff as yellow moon, but cheaper -
Did you just start a month ago? It's very early days. When is she having the 'solids' and what are you doing? Is it the two of you, with her in the highchairs and you poised with a selection of things you want her to try? If so, I would perhaps rethink it. Don't make any special Foods that you will then be invested in, emotionally. Try going out to Peckham rye cafe and getting yourself a latte and share a Mezze sort of lunch, with her having a cucumber stick and a piece of pitta bread (get it lightly toasted) with a splodge of hummous on the tray for her to experiment with. Put a big tshirt over her clothes and concentrate on your own food (all the best if you can meet up with a friend at the same time) Just give her time to explore the food, gum It, suck off a chunk, make circles in the hummous, smear it on her face I don't like the pouches. I think they are expensive, sugary, bland and sloppy texture and thrive on a market of anxious parents wanting to 'do weaning right' Try to think of this as 6 months ahead for her to practice getting food into her mouth, while also investigating all the shapes, smells, textures, colours and tastes. She will be happier to put stuff in her mouth once she had seen you eat it, then her little brain knows it's safe to eat and comes into the category of 'food' She also will do best if she can learn that meals are social and relaxing. Good luck! Exciting adventure ahead!
