  1. Well done for highlighting the hostel in Barry Road and their request for baby things. We took some clothes, toys and a pram up today and as experienced by many posters above, the staff there were so gracious and grateful. There is obviously a real need and the people there have very little compared to many of us. So if you do have some good condition baby things they would undoubtedly be really appreciated.

  3. The jams in ticket hall and stairs at Denmark Hill aren't that bad. Mildly irritating for about 30 seconds usually. And they are about to open a new ticket office to solve that problem too. If Denmark Hill is nearer you, I wouldn't listen too much to what people say about the people jams...
  4. Why doesn't everyone just put cones in front of their house... Why do builders need a parking space more than residents? I'd move them too. Selfish gits. We had builders working on our house and they never once reserved the space.... Just got there early enough to beat the estate agents to the parking spaces.

How do you become a middle class wannabe? I drive a Toyota, bang on about house prices and insist on the occasional Ocado delivery to liven up my dull life of working in the City and dealing with young kids.... Am I middle class or just a middle class wannabe? And how could I tell one way or the other? And you are probably right... ED is probably boring for those who aren't middle class and / or don't have a pram... Although I'd heard that there is a right good laugh to be had at Bar Boho after 11pm (can't validate that though as am usually in bed) :-)
  7. Would it help if Le Ch. put a notice on the door saying 'no more than 2 buggies/prams at a time'? It is perfectly okay to put such a sign up about school kids and nobody complains. Perhaps it will help them with their message when they turn people away.
  8. Which of the 44 pages do I go to to find the opening date of the new M&S?
  9. Someone with mental health issues driving a car at cyclists....that would be really worrying!!!!! 10. Saw plat de jour at a certain French place on LL the other day was Steak Hache de Cheval.... (True BTW) Obviously competing with Tesco...! Anyone try it?
  11. And your point is? Makes your 'nearly' story seem a bit pointless doesn't it. 1800 people killed in road accidents last year (none of them by cyclists). 16 cyclists killed in London last year. And you think one example of someone getting hurt by a cyclist means that cyclists are a significant menace.... One of my friends is just getting full use of his wrist back after a pedestrian walked out in front of his bike 5 months ago... Are pedestrians a menace to society? Discuss...

On the bike I've been hit twice by vans in the space of 6 months while their drivers were on the mobile phone - including suffering one broken elbow. While cycling to work I was NEARLY hit by vehicles almost every day...Save your 'it almost happened to my wife once' stories. Per Sweetgirl's nonsense about cyclists should take courses on how to avoid being killed by drivers who aren't paying attention.... cycle in London and you get an immersion course in that every time you go out on a main road... I drive more than I cycle and haven't even come close to hitting a cyclist in 20 years due to two things: wing mirrors and a bit of awareness...
  13. Why don't Southwark turn the wasteland next to the hospital into a temporary car park while they decide what to do... ?That would relieve pressure on parking in area, allow people using ED station to park there rather than the streets near the station and potentially bring more shoppers into ED as a result of easy parking. If it works, they could keep the car park and turn ED into a CPZ without impacting the shops. In Balham, Sainsburys were allowed to build a new supermarket only if they made car parking available for all shoppers using Balham High Road. If that space next to Dulwich Hospital becomes a Waitrose then the council should consider a similar provision in the lease.
  14. Doesn't really matter what the sign says...everyone will ignore it anyway. See comment on driving while using mobile phone...strange to think that this is actually an offence given how common it is...
  15. Second cyclist hit by a car on LL this week! Can everyone just look out for cyclists before pulling out, for goodness sake!!!
  16. On the positive side, there hasn't been a new estate agent opening on LL for ages and we even got rid of on!
  17. When we were 9 years old (a long time ago) we used to think it was hilarious to put dog poo on the doorsteps of people we didn't like, ring the bell and run away. They would (occasionally) step out to see who had rung the doorbell, straight onto the poo. These days, that is probably a criminal offence...

Did the > cyclist take reasonable care/see the driver > indicating? Was she ready to brake? I suppose > we'll never know. We turn left at that junction every day. At that junction, there is a bus lane that cyclist use, which finishes just before East Dulwich Grove. Cars cut across from normal lane through bus lane to turn left. If cyclists come up bus lane, and cars cut left without looking, and accident happens. I've been hit twice by vans while cycling to work (one broken elbow, one knackered back wheel). Both times, I strongly suspect drivers were on their mobile phones (as both accidents caused by van drivers at relatively slow speeds not paying attention and driving erratically). Something needs to be done about driving with mobile phones clamped to ears. It is so common to see. If hit by vehicles, even if not injured, perhaps cyclists / witnesses should record exact time and report accident to police, requesting check on whether mobile phone was in use at the time. I wish I'd done that.
  19. What is wrong with James highlighting a change of use on a building on the forum? particularly where he sees potential issues!!!This is the gossip section and recently there has been far too little gossip.... More gossip, less personal grandstanding please.
  20. Right to protest should be allowed. Right to go to a circus without being harrassed by protesters should be allowed. Protesting is one thing, trying to persuade people going in to agree with your point of view is another... Answer...protest round the back or in the morning when the show is not running. Then you are protesting against the perpetrators of what you think is wrong not the innocent bystander.

That is bugaboo owners for you...
  22. I guess that the Administrator puts a lot of time and effort into giving us a free service so we cannot take that too much for granted or complain too much when our fairly irrelevant threads get moved (and some of mine have been). Some of you remind me of people in social housing who complain about how their rights are being totally violated when the Housing Association dare to warn them for breaching their tenancy (ref dreadful programme about housing officers in Eccles last night...). It is free!!! Be grateful not surly!
  23. When we were house hunting in 2007 there were plenty of 3 beds in the 600k bracket so in reality it sounds like prices are back to 2007 levels.
  24. I'm more worried about people nicking apples from our orchard... Gerroff moi land!
  25. Bizarre. What health and safety issues arise from people eating their own raisins rather than your raisins. Health of your profits?
